I love how you showed the entire game from late in the 3rd quarter on. Usually a video like this will only show the touchdowns. Seeing everything really helped us relive the tension and the drama of this wild game!

Except they should have lost, and the NFL famously apologized to the Giants afterwards. There was even talk of replaying the final play but they decided against it due to logistics. For years the Giants had the apology letter from the League hung framed in the old Giants Stadium. Had everyone not rushed off the field so fast the refs would have correctly called the penalties on the last play and the Giants would have re-kicked the chip shot field goal for the win.

That failed Giants FG at end was being tried on 3rd down. Had the time not been used up, the Giants would have gotten another chance. (Should have been a spike?) I found this game among thr 2002-2003 NFL playoffs (i.e., following the 2002 season, because the playoffs come after New Year's ). There was no (defensive) pass interference called, but the Giants were flagged for ineligible man downfield, and the game clock was out of time, so the game could end on the offensive penalty. The next day, it was announced what the correct calls were, although this could not affect the game: Yes, it was defensive pass interference Yes, there was ineligible man downfield, but not on the on-field-cited player, who had reported as being eligible. So there would have been offsetting penalties, and there would have been untamed play (even though this wasn't just a defensive penalty??).

I remember this game back in the day. I've been a life-long 49er fan and I still have to say 2 things about Terrell Owens. First, the guy is a ridiculously great athlete. Seeing him being about to put defenders on their ass after he caught the ball was amazing to watch. Second, the guy was absolute locker-room cancer. I don't know if I've ever seen someone sew discord in a team anywhere near as badly as TO did both in San Francisco and Philidelphia. He'd somehow manage to carry his team into the playoffs, then damned near break the team apart once they were knocked out of the playoffs because everyone hated each other. To be the cause of both is just unbelievable. I just don't know how someone can be so good and so bad at the exact same time.
@RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1
@RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1 5 месяцев назад
Same here. Lifelong Niner fan and I was thrilled when TO was gone. He whined about Garcia not going deep enough. So they put Rattay in, who had a hell of an arm, then TO dropped pass after pass right on his hands. Hell, in the "The Catch 2" game, it wouldn't even have been close if TO hadn't been dropping passes in the endzone.

For Junkin, the Giants' long snapper, this was his last game in his NFL career. What an awful way to end it. As for their kicker, 27 year old rookie Matt Bryant, who'd go on to play until he was 44 (in 2019) primarily for the Falcons, being known as one of the best kickers in the NFL over his career. Not the way you'd like to start, though 😂

Somebody on the kicking unit will always get blamed when they don't save the team's ass. As a former dedicated Vikings fan, I think of Blair Walsh vs. Seattle, who was blamed for missing an easy FG but nobody blamed the SCORELESS offense. I also think of Gary Anderson, whose ONLY MISS of the entire season is blamed for their loss to Atlanta, despite the defense being the real reason - allowing ATL to march right down and score immediately after to tie it up.
