A lot of people will rush in with 2021. 2021 had the best Divisional Round of all time. It was so god-tier that people forget everything else was just pretty good to forgettable. Every round including the Super Bowl in 2003 was amazing.
@yeboinoe2697 I wouldn't exactly call a first round where 4 of the 6 games were blowouts "GOATed" outside of obvious bias towards 1 of the winning teams (my guess is you're either a Bengals or Bills fan?) I'll concede to you the Champ games, especially Bengals v Chiefs, were also very good tho. The Super Bowl was good but I wouldn't say it was legendary, it was like a generic good game to me if that makes sense. Close competitive game but nothing remarkable stands out in my memory with that one
😂 me too. I was playing the hell out of Madden using Panthers (Julius Peppers, Mike Vick Kryptonite) and Ravens. Before online play, me vs my brothers and friends tournaments. Winner stays on while others watch and wait. Great times
@@txmade734can always look back fondly on the early 2000s maddens. I feel like the early 2000s were like the golden age of video gaming. So many classics in all genres.
2014 playoffs is the 2nd greatest playoffs, the most underrated game ever that no one talks about, that divisional game between the Patriots and Ravens, the nostalgia hitting me hard right now thinking back on it
03 may have been the best playoff year whatever. I'm just here to comment on the BS thumbnail pic editing trying to make it look like Brady and Manning were in each other's faces. Those guys were not ones to get in the face of opposing players especially not each other. God I hate bullshit like this
Still think to this day that the 03 divisional weekend is the finest weekend of playoff football ever. 4th and 26, puntless chiefs colts, double OT, freezing foxboro, just classic after classic
@@san_poil_indian Yep, Titans being the Titans, Bills being the Bills, Tom Brady never winning another playoff game ever again, and Rodgers' final postseason game with Green Bay
@LiamDeege Bennett missed an opportunity more than the Titans being the Titans. Since 2001 you've had to play a dam near perfect game to beat NE. No crucial mistakes allowed.
03 may have been the best playoff year whatever. I'm just here to comment on the BS thumbnail pic editing trying to make it look like Brady and Manning were in each other's faces. I understand how you feel i wanted Carolina Panthers to bring home it's 1st ever super bowl championship it would be a tremendously terrific feeling to see it but that wasn't the case there it would have changed like if the Panthers won it would be a huge turnaround for the better
A common misconception is that Hasselback threw the in right after the coin toss. In fact both teams went 3 and out to start overtime, the 3rd pocession of the period is when the pick 6 happened.
It's nice to know the Seahawks were still willing to punt on 4th down despite Matt's proclamation to the high heavens. (And nice to know he was already wrong before the pick six occurred.) I wonder if I'll live long enough to hear someone at the coin toss actually try saying that again. :P
Got to give credit to Hasselback for rebounding from a moment like this. Alot of players would've been haunted from a play like that for the rest of their career. He went on to have a pretty solid career. In fact, 2 years later, he was the starting QB for these Seahawks when they played in the SB vs. Pittsburgh. We all know how that one turned out.
It can be very annoying with historic nfl moments like that one that throughout the years details of the play aren’t talked about but just the play itself.
For people who think Bill Belichick played no role in helping the Patriots win. I give you the 2003 Patriots. His defense was dominate. Brady was more important but they don’t win the first three championships without Bill.
And what everyone ignores is Belichick is the one who trained Brady in how to read defenses, what to look for and how to attack it, and had to keep pushing Brady to keep getting better.
Undrafted Jake Delhomme playing in the biggest game on the biggesg stage and absolutely shredded one of Bill B. greatest defenses. Gotta love it. #KeepPounding
These 2003/04 playoffs happened soon after I was born, and I've never realized how great the 2003/04 playoffs were. Truly the most underrated playoffs in my lifetime.
I remember back in 2003, I started watching football because of NFL primetime, Chris Berman and Tom Jackson it was such a great time. I enjoyed the sport, and fell in love with it ever since!
That Panthers- Rams game is an emotional one for me. I grew up in the St.Louis metropolitan area and was a Rams fan at the time, so that loss was extremely heartbreaking. I was also watching the game with my grandfather. I remember him saying he didn't like the Rams anymore because of how they treated Kurt Warner that year. It was also the last time I saw my grandfather alive.
Man is was terrible, he was trying to play through injury and Mike Martz never embraced the idea of him being a franchise qb and it came back to bite him in the ass this game. Kurt would've won this game Burger Bulger was throwing shitty passes everywhere lol
@shuturmouthkeeptlkn9384 I agree Kurt would've got them the win. He obviously still had the ability to play because he brought Arizona out of obscurity.
Warner couldn’t win with the Rams anymore. He’d proven that on 2002 and when they gave him one last shot in 2003 he failed again. The resurgence in 2007-09 with the Cardinals is what made Warner’s story all the more astonishing.
@@STP43FAN1 I agree. I think it's also his time with Arizona that got him into the hall of fame. To my knowledge, he's the only quarterback to take two franchises that were laughing stocks of the league and turn them into super bowl contenders.
BTW thanks NFL Throwback for shouting out the 1981 NFL Playoffs. That's really the start of when the NFL really becomes interesting to me (1981 to 2008 is my wheelhouse), and even with the 38-0 shutout the Cowboys put on the Bucs, that year's playoffs had some exciting and iconic games in the Epic in Miami, Freezer Bowl, and of course The Catch.
For a single playoff game, I still got the 2012 AFC Divisional game, Ravens vs Broncos. You cant ask for more in an NFL game: Multiple offensive TDs Pick 6 TD Two special teams TDs Game winning kick in double OT In 20 degree weather Peak football🐐
2012 Ravens at Broncos was astonishing for two big reasons - 73 combined points in double overtime. The Ravens finally shot down Peyton Manning after nine straight losses dating to 2002.
And they missed a lot with that Panthers-Rams game. Kasay made a FG in OT wiped away by delay of game before missed the longer one. The Moose fumble recovery in the end zone early in the game.
Carolina's 2003 run was incredible (2005 was pretty good, too). Jake Delhomme was a winner. I'll always wonder what his later years would've looked like if he wasn't forced to get elbow surgery.
What makes 03 the best was the physicality. Those men killed each other every game. And still had shoot outs. 2021 is a top one for sure. Just the holding and illegal contact flags would never be called in 2003.
The first season I really started following football. The 2003 NFL season will always hold a special place in my heart. I still go back to watch highlights from various games time and time again.
Absolutely. Let’s face it, people tend to remember quarterbacks the most, and that game sometimes gets overshadowed by some of Tom Brady’s other Super Bowls.
Especially with the backstory of Hassleback being caught on a hot mic saying, “We want the ball and we’re gonna score” at the coin toss, only to be pick sixed a few minutes later lol
I remember watching a couple of these games at my friend’s house. Every game was intense, we were jumping up out of our seats. We said then it was the best playoffs we had ever seen. Every game every round was so close.
@@darrinbyers1785 Pretty sure Brandon Bostick attempting to make a play on the onside kick against Seattle in 2014 is way worse. But 4th and 26 is pretty bad.
Priest Holmes had the greatest single season in nfl history scoring all 27 rushing touchdowns in one season he's the main reason why Will Shields is in the hall of fame because of Holmes 11:55
I think 2014-15 playoffs was pretty good. Off the top of my head Lions Cowboys (shootout with controversial PI call) and Steelers Ravens (big rivalry game) in wildcard round Pats Ravens (back & forth shootout), Cowboys Packers (controversial call), Seahawks Panthers (LOB vs Cam Newton) in the divisional round. Seahawks Packers crazy comeback in the NFCCG Greatest Superbowl of all time, SB 49 Seahawks vs Pats
@@jsmiller0605My first jersey. Pats played the Chargers to start the 97 season. Law reached out to high five his WR and he high fives him back on the first play of the game. Became my favorite Patriot as a kid after that.
I was sitting in section 320 at Arrowhead for the Colts/Chiefs matchup and that game crushed me for like 2 months man. I was 21 years old and had only known playoff failure under Marty, this was the first shot during my adulthood that we had a good team capable of going to the SB. Watching Peyton conduct that offense from the 3rd level was a thing of beauty but the most infuriating thing I’d ever experienced as a sports fan, our defense was hopeless. What a game tho.
Man that brought back some pain. I was about 9 years old at the time. Just became a diehard chiefs fan in the last 2 years . I was so pumped that whole week. I couldn't wait for the weekend . And man did I get crushed lol. I'll never forget how much I spent that whole week just buzzing only to be crushed haha
@@jsmiller0605 yeah I was at that game as well, maybe the drunkest I’ve ever been at a chiefs game 🤣 cuz we had a comfortable lead and not a lot of stress throughout that game, so it was party time! Haha. But yes, y’all had our number for years, hated playing u guys come playoffs.
XXXVIII is definitely a Super Bowl that's been getting its rightful flowers more in recent years, thanks in parts to efforts from channels like this and Barry McCockiner. A Super Bowl I still find to be TRULY underrated, though, that no one still talks about for whatever reason? Super Bowl XVI in 1981--the first clash between the Niners and Bengals. THAT deserves Greatest Game treatment at some point, in my eyes.
There is a whole playlist of this postseason in its entirety. I remember saying half through thinking holy cow all this was one playoffs this has to be one of the greatest of all time
We want the ball and we’re gonna score, Peyton’s first playoff win, the no punt game, 4th and 26, Ty Law taking over, deshaun foster’s stretch TD with the flashbulbs going off, vinatieri kicking a game winner. These playoffs had so many moments
@@SigandGibbs That is such nonsense. 2005 and 2006 both had lower overall scoring than the 2003 season. Super Bowl 42 was a 17-14 defensive battle. The lowest-scoring Super Bowl of all time wasn't in the 60s or the 70s; it was in 2019 when the Patriots defeated the Rams 13-3. In 2023, the average score per team per game was 21.8 points, a whole 1 point better than 2003's 20.8 points. I think your comment is less about teams "not being allowed to play defense" (because the stats don't support your argument) and more about the NFL cracking down on the really dangerous plays that end players' seasons or even careers and cause long-term debilitating injuries: hits on defenseless receivers, helmet-to-helmet hits, hits below the quarterback's knee, kickoff returns in general, etc. The NFL has a long history of legislating the most brutal, senseless violence out of the game. Players used to be able to lock their arms together in a flying wedge formation. Players used to be allowed to clothesline ballcarriers. Today, you can still tackle a player as long as it's in the "strike zone". QBs can still be sacked. Players can still intercept passes and try to hit the ball with their helmet to force fumbles.
This was the last NFL season before I went to college, and the last one I watched obsessively. I remember at the beginning of the season predicting that Jamal Lewis would rush for 2000 yards and that Carolina would go to the Super Bowl. To this day, I still can't believe I got both of those correct.
Same for me, last SuperBowl of high school with all my friends! I grew up/lived in Carolina, saw the panthers/jags & also the Ravens very first games live as a kid!! Yes 2003/4 season was amazing! The SuperBowl party was epic up until the very last second! That game turned me into a Tom Brady NE hater for the rest of my life! A Panthers SB win that year would have been an epic way to end high school and that chapter of my life, before leaving NC to go off to college
What a reminder of how lucky I was to witness this era of football, not my personal favorite playoffs year but reminded of old household names makes me feel just as old, I hope this years playoffs will be just as memorable, even if my team isn't in it.
This was the first nfl playoff where i actually watched most of the games instead of just following the Pats. Was epic the whole way through and the Pats pulling it out in the end just put the icing on the cake.
I still think it’s hilarious too that the packers payed for his game ticket and flight to Gb for their wildcard game the next week, extending their gratitude for him giving them their playoff spot lol
I feel like 2017 is incredibly underrated. Mariota's crazy TD pass to himself for a comeback against the chiefs. Panthers - Saints coming down to the last play, Minneapolis Miracle, Eagles goal line stand, Jags Steelers shoot out, Super 52 was phenomenal. was a shame pats titans, jags bills, and eagles vikings were stinkers tho. 2021 was good too but honestly only the Divisional round was legendary, i haven't been watching the NFL long enough for any other good post seasons lol
The 2021 Bengals remind me of the 2003 Panthers. Kind of makes me proud. We lost in the Super Bowl like they did in a close way kind of like the 2008 Arizona Cardinals.
Jamal Lewis for Ravens was such a beast like he was absolute stud from the day he won a super bowl championship in the 2000 season for real he deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame period 1:37
The passage beginning at 30:30 is one of the great ones for the channel. It covers the great [modern] postseasons other than 2003. Like that time Dez caught it, that time Jordan Babineaux made the greatest ankle tackle from behind, more Peyton, and that time Eli took it. It's only a couple of minutes but it's walloping.
2000s-2010s football was the best time to be alive and watch. Nothing but great plays and harddddd hits . I don’t know why nobody tackles like it used to be
The 2003 year was incredible. You had the Panthers miracle run, Packers OT win over Seattle, Brady vs Manning, legendary SB38 game. Definitely a classic postseason
Honorable mention 2012: rookie RG3 vs rookie Russ, ray lewis last home game in the wildcard, falcons bs Seahawks thriller, Houston vs New England shootout, kaepernick record day vs Green Bay, and Mike high miracle in the divisional, Atlanta chokes to Kaep and ravens get their revenge in the conference championships, and the harbaugh bowl/blackout bowl in Super Bowl 47
2020 watchjng Tom win with the Bucs was my favorite but yea 2003 was wild. Still remember watching it and going to school hyped the next day trying talk about the ganes but barely any other kid watched NFL to talk about it lol ended uo talking with my janitor abiut the games. Janitor Eddie was the goat
Watched that SB at a bud's house in high school. 8-10 of us just hanging out. At half time we then go out and play some football. My friends little brother opened the front door and screamed "You missed Janet Jacksons tit!!!" We all sprinted back inside. To this day we are mad we missed it LOL!
This was the post-season that really got into football. I was hyped up about the previous Super Bowl, but that turned out to be a stinker (Super Bowl 37 where the Bucs clapped the Raiders cheeks). But this post-season, I remember being at a wrestling meet in high school listening to the Rams-Panthers divisional round game on my Walk-man, hanging on to every play. I was hoping the Panthers pulled a 2001 Patriots and pulled off the upset in Super Bowl 38.
i was a senior, too. wasn't in to football yet, but went to a watch party where none of us watched. just played cards and hung out. still a great memory. was the janet jackson halftime too
I remember being really young at age 15 going on 16 years old in high school of 2003 while i watching the playoffs on weekends but it was so cool watching it with family and friends
My Panthers were on a magical run that year. The first game I remember watching that double OT game against the Rams, and even then I knew there was something about that team in Charlotte.
We just watched nearly 40 minutes of all of the playoff moments. My favorite moment is when Eli Manning threw the ball to David Tyree for a helmet catch over Rodney Harrison. Then, Eli Manning is the only quarterback to beat Tom Brady twice in the Super Bowl. Bears return specialist Devin Hester scored on a kickoff return for a touchdown against the Colts in the Super Bowl. We love the Super Bowl matchup between the Panthers and the Patriots. Tom Brady won the MVP as he threw for 354 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception. Deion Branch had 10 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown. Thanks y’all for all the best moments.
Great video! This playoff season, and especially that divisional round, may have indeed been the best ever. I really do think that the combination of this playoff season, as well as the parity in wild swings in the NFL throughout the 00's, is what helped elevate the NFL to the #1 sport on America. The parity gave everyone the idea that your team always had a chance. Coming into the 2003 season, nobody thought that the Panthers would have come as close to winning the Super Bowl as they did.
Thanks for posting this! I'll enjoy watching this with my thc cartridge whilst eating tuna sandwich with fries (tots) whilllle having The Sopranos playing in the background. And later I'll play some modded 2k24 on Aethersx2 I love being me
cant say ik this one since i was born in 03, but i can vividly remember the 2007 playoffs when the giants won. That was a beautifully crafted run in both sides, story wise as well.
2020 playoffs I think had the best from a story telling standpoint. The whole thing was the old generation vs new generation You has Brady, Brees, Rodgers, all fighting in the NFC to see which legendary QB will represent the veterans. In which Brady wins it. In the AFC had Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, fighting to represent the young generation. In which Mahomes takes the cake. And then in the Super Bowl you had Mahomes vs Brady Kelce vs Gronk Tyreek vs AB
