I've had good luck with the 90's Bushmaster and current Windham products. I especially like the fact that Windham has 0.030" and 0.060" taller front sight posts. Very few people know how to zero iron sights, including the vast majority of civilian, police, and military instructors. The Canadian Bull is the real way to zero the iron sights, and that knowledge was lost in the mid-80's. When we use the Canadian Bull, 80% of the problems are gone with new students and experienced instructors. Those of us that shot the AR for decades and decades were taught well. This is way back when anyone with an AR was considered a freak by the gun community. The gun stores would ask, "Why would anyone want an AR-15?" Times have changed, some chanes for the better and some for the worse. That is why we spend so much time and effort to help train the children, moms, and dads in how to use an AR properly. I lose money teaching thr truth, but it is important to undo the poor training from law enforcement, the internet, and the military. Each of those groups have skilled members that are amazing, but the typical training is not that good. That is why positive examples are so important. Teach that child or mother how to use an AR correctly, and they will be headed in the right direction. People that follow Chris have that right attitude.

As a Canadian Forces member, this is the first i've heard of the "Canadian Bull". And I've looked through the old C7 pams and videos from the 80s and 90s. What was this "Canadian Bull" supposed to be? As far as i can tell from our original C7 pams and instructional videos, we zero'd them via the 25m zero.
@burnyburnoutze2nd
@burnyburnoutze2nd 2 года назад
@UC4uGllMGMyiW0sx-LNmP6Ow I used that zero for my civilian AR-15s, before trudeau banned them. Even did the modification to the carry handle sights on my Stag 15 so I could have 4 clicks below the 6/3 setting, and used that as a 200m setting, zeroing at 50m. When I put the sight back to 6/3 and zero'd with the classic 25m zero, dead on, no adjustments needed. The M16A2 carry handle and the detachable carry handle would've been much better if they had a 200m setting instead of starting at 300m.

@@gapshot5065 Mine was an older model with the HBAR 1/8 chrome lined barrel. It wasn't super fond of cheap 55 grain rounds in the accuracy department, but it really shot well with 62 grain ammo. Was 100% reliable and never gave me any functional trouble. Due to the current ban situation, I am in the process of exporting that rifle to the USA to be in possession of friends of mine. Woulkd rather they get to use it than to see it get destroyed by the Trudeau government for virtue signaling.

We are in agreement. Windham Weaponry is a premium AR manufacturer. The quality is very noticeable right out of the box and at the range. There’s a lot of flashy tactical branding on the market and Windham may suffer a little bit from the classic look, but it’s the real thing where it counts.
@dougpoulton5544
@dougpoulton5544 2 года назад
I actually prefer the classic look. All the flashy tactical branding, in my mind, doesn't justify the higher pricing. It really is hard to improve on the Stoner design much the same as it's hard to improve on the Browning design of the 1911.

Congrats on joining the gang. Let us know how well you like it. I've always have had 20" rifles (1st Bought. 3 Built) when it came to ARs. Only time I deviated from that was making an AR that was lighter for my sister to hold. Hence got to try a 16" Midlength. Even that was nice.

In the current configuration it would be closer to a C7A1 (fixed stock, flattop rail and black furniture), C7A2 needs a carbine buffer tube, adjustable colt style stock, HH buffer and spring, and green furniture. BCM makes a tri rail front sight mount almost identical to the Diemaco/Colt Canada one. Then top it off with an Elcan C79A2 and Eickorn Soligen bayonet. Colt Canada made semi auto C7A2 and C8A3 clones (SA20 and SA15.7) until Trudeau prohibited ARs and 1500 other firearms by name.

I think I got the most smoking deal on this rifle. $650, free shipping no sales tax. 2018 was a great year to purchase firearms and related items. My first AR 15, bought it while I was in the Marines. Currently and forever set up like my rifle from boot camp. The only difference is how the area where the buffer meets lower around the rear takedown pin. The rifles in MCRD San Diego have the newer cerroforge lowers.

I love my WW SRC. It’s a tack driver. Chrome lined 4150 chrome moly V is a barrel you usually see on higher end rifles. Bolt made of 158 carpenter steal. Upper and lower made of forged 7075 T6 aircraft aluminum with a very tight fit. It spits out any ammo you throw at it. That’s a lot of rifle for $850

It's ironic in the fact that when i had 1-9 i wanted a 1-7 and now having shot 1-7 i have come to the conclusion that 1-9 is a better twist rate for the average AR-15 owner who doesn't shoot more than 100 yards, doesn't buy heavy grain ammo, and doesn't want to buy high dollar defensive/hunting ammo.

I used the M16-A1 colt, in the army with iron sights. Thats been 40 yrs ago and i resently few mo.s ago ive bought windham rifle AR15-A1 and i can say that i stared at the rifle for couple of months before i took it to the rifle range. I had memories came into play when i recieved the rifle and i didnt know how i was going to react to it if i had taken the to the rifle range a d fire the rifle for the first time since 40 yrs ago? So long store short i went down and loaded the chamber and fired the rifle, and the smell of the rifle and burnt powder from the spent round had brought into contact of my memories how it was in the military. I had good memories and it felt good while firing the rifle. However i can say this for sure that the windham rifle is close if not better than the colts, but when you have been assigned to a rifle that you were trained with, nothing can take its place! Even thoe you train with colts but their is a difference when that particular rifle that i was trained was my rifle and none other was like it. Thats how i feel about it. Dont get me wrong the windham rifles are vary close to the rifle i carried and if i had a choice i would choose the windham over my colt rifle. Thanks Windham for your setvice to a veteren that had a need for this re-experience in memory. Thanks again.

Glad to see you’re looking at the earlier versions of the AR-15 weapons platform. I’m really enjoying them since I went thru Army ROTC & served on active duty in the 1980’s. I first qualified in ROTC advanced camp on a XM16E1. I had a hard time qualifying but that was probably because the rifle was pretty beat up. The upper and lower were pretty much bare aluminum. I Carried & qualified with the M16A1 and was in a unit that was one of the first to be Issued the M16A2 and the M9 and qualified with both. Although I love my M4 clone, I recently got a AR15 A4. Really love the full size rifle and iron sights. I’d forgotten how little recoil the is with the full size rifle. Just need to get an A1. Keep up the good work. I look forward to adding Black Rifle III to its predecessors.

my favorite A3/A4 clone is by Stag Arms, the retro 15. idk how stag is these days after they sold the company but mine is from just before they sold it back when they were still in CT and basically continental machine & tool who makes mil spec parts for foreign Nato militaries, as well as the major components of the S&W M&P 15 and other popular big name rifles. CMT was always capable of producing as high a quality parts as they were contracted to make, and when my father was an FFL dealer in CT they came in with samples when they were newer. Since then I liked them as they tend to punch above their weight class as far as price point goes. Their Retro 15 upper is my favorite 20" upper i've ever shot. I learned on my father's 80s or early 90s Colt Sporter Match 20" and later took 2 training courses with it as a teenager so i always loved the 20" so when it was time to buy my own i went with the Stag. there is a difference from the military versions, mine has a 1 in 8 twist, but i love it and it shoots everything from 55gr to 77gr very well. stag had and i believe still does have an infinite shot barrel guarantee and someone on mrgunsngear's video about the retro 15 (or maybe another stag) said they had a stag rifle ruined in a house fire and stag replaced it for free. my stag sits beside me right now and is beautiful. i have about 3k rounds through it flawlessly. you can't mess with the original system of a 20" barrel and rifle length gas system, it's so easy on the parts compared to shorter versions and will last you forever if it's made right. stag's nickel boron BCG is awesome as well

Ended up building an A2 clone using an old Bushmaster lower, DPMS A2 upper, PSA A2 lower parts kit, and a Windham barrel. Shoots great with M193... one of my favorite range toys!

I always wanted a full size rifle like I carried in the Marines. I was gonna buy the Colt AR15A4 which actually IS what we had minus the burst. But colt stopped selling them to the public a year or two ago. These Windhams seem to be the next best thing. I just may have to buy one 👍🏻 I’ve never owned a AR anything though. Just didn’t care about the short little M4 type everybody gets. I bought a AK47 instead. AK is a lot of fun but I’m getting worried that I better buy a AR before it’s to late

Colt is currently selling AR15s again. They only temporarily halted civilian sales to catch up on contracts.

@@JohnnyRebKy Hey Johnny, the Colt AR15A4 rifles are definitely back now. They came back a year or two ago but they were marked "carbine" on the receiver for some reason. Now they're marked "AR-15A4" like they used to be. You can find them for sale at around the thousand dollar mark.

There's also the BCM 20'' government profile upper. I wonder how they compare to the Windham, Colt, and others? And Stag arms makes a complete rifle too!

Good revue. I've been a Bushmaster fan for over 25 years. I miss QPC for the spare parts availability, but the Windham rifles are comperable in quality to the QPC days.

Yup Chris me too 11B 1988 -2001. Actually got to train on the A1 and A2, was issued the A2. Its ironic I stumbled upon this video because just a year ago I built the exact same rifle (A4 clone) built on a PSA M16 A4 clone lower. FN barrel A4 flat top with removable carry handle. It's identical to yours except my mechanic enhancements, an RTB nickel boron coated and Polished enhanced GI fire control group with ambi safety, fail zero nickel boron M16 bolt group and A1 length stock with the Colt buffer and spring, A2 buttpad, A1 metal trap door. Used a colt / FN A2 pistol grip and Colt / FN A2 hand guards. Standard M16 GI sling mounted to a USGI front 203 style side swivel mount. It's actually far better than my service rifle. I feel most comfortable with it than anything else. Your Wyndham rifle is really sweet, I actually considered purchasing a whole rifle from them but decided I wanted to build my own to give it that personal touch and have it exactly the way I wanted it tailored to my specifications. When all was said and done I came in at just about a grand or over and couldn't be more satisfied.

Windum weaponry is a great company, my first ar I bought was their dissipator m4 model that still runs today. And now that I prefer building whenever I need a stripped receiver they are my go to. I also grew up not to far from Windum so being able to put money back into the community is a nice bonus to me.

I have W.W. LE Patrol Carbine I bought in 2012 has been absolutely phenomenal. The model number is R14M4PHA4T-7 . It has 14.5 1in7 with Pinned YHM Phantom F.H. It came with 9" Quad Rail and A2 Detachable Carry Handle. It did come the dumb commercial spec receiver EXTENSION. I changed that out immediately for Colt 4 position. We beat the ever loving shit out of this gun . We kept it in its basic config the whole time . We shot over 4k rounds of Full Auto through it . At 22k the barrel had to be replaced . Sent the whole Upper to WW and they basically sent brand new upper back . Their CS is freaking awesome . I do not know about any other WW models except for this one and I would 100% recommend this model. I do not know if they even make this model anymore since it was bought in 2012 . Back then only the LE Patrol models had 1in7 barrels instead of 1in9 .

I like 20" ar's. They are sooo much smoother than the carbines. I also prefer the 55grn with 1/9 barrels. Optics really are game changers, though. RDS make target acquisition and follow up shots much faster. Acogs and lpvos make longer shots and smaller targets so much easier. Bad situations will involve moving targets or partially revealed targets behind cover. Optics really shine there.

You know that with AR15 iron sights that you don't have to perfectly center the front sight within the rear aperture to make hits, right? Point your nose to the where you want to shoot while maintaining a consistent cheek weld and you should be getting hits as fast as you can point your eyes to the target.

Well for as much as it cost I would expect it to be right. In 2018 I did the PSA A2 as complete upper and lower with anything else or shipping for around $300. I did FN carry handle, Cryptic Coatings BCG, Geissele charging handle, Okay Industries steel magazine and sling for $300 more.

I purchased a Bushmaster in about 1995. That was during the assault weapon ban, so it had the heavy barrel. Then, after the ban was lifted, I bought a Bushmaster A2 barrel. Really like the gun. I assume mine would have been made when Bushmaster was doing well.

Cant believe I bought one of these for $650 shipped in 2018. What a steal. It currently wears a TA31RCO-A4CP, KAC RAS handguard, and VCAS sling, just like my old issued rifle. Upgraded the trigger to the RRA NM 2 stage trigger, and I even have the data plate for it with info that reflects that actual model of the firearm: Windham's CAGE code, the Windham model number, and the serial. Put 5 deer down in their tracks this year from ranges of 250 yards and in. Would probably put tyrants down well too.

Chrome lined-barrel? Laser "bore sighted" sights for me? Clean machine marks? Yeah, I can live with the improvement of the M4 ramps and no F marked FSB, lol. I am not a COMPLETE nerd (close though).
