We were looking for a good mix of originality and functionality. Something that didn't exist quite like this in history but might have, and would likely be functional. Lots of interesting ideas, and it was tricky to narrow it down to the finalists. Thanks for submitting your designs, folks! Hope you had fun.

If whoever made that clothes hanger sword is reading this, you're a personal hero of mine :) I have no idea how many times I had one those in hand and thought "hm I guess this could be made into a pretty interesting weapon" and swung it a few times through the air try to make up an idea how to model that. I never thought anyone else on this planet would have the same crazy idea, let alone try to design something from it :D thanks a lot for that :)

As a kid, I'd fling those as "arrows" same as one flings a rubber band. The wings of a large toy airplane served as a good bow for that as well. Next contest should be for kids under 10 (hoping there are still kids who play in real life rather than grow up on screens).

Yeah, imo, it should be much higher up. Also, think it is kinda odd that Skalla is so married to historical materials even when looking at designs that have limited historical use. The basket hilted for instance could still have plenty of punch if the is made out of aluminum.

Honestly chuffed to see my elven messer on here even if only an honorable mention. To answer your question, I wish could claim I thought about the practicality of the hook but was a purely aesthetic choice. That being said, I will certainly think about it from now on

Dude I think you are on to something here. Letting the community collectively continue to design and evolve melee weapons and picking the best ones to be made. In fact I think that you should also put up a vote on other design choices and see which ones the community would like to have made and then have those made. If people want additional ones made then they can donate the appropriate amount and have it made. I also think that you should test the ones that win, like you would any other weapon, on your channel and see what virtues and flaws come up in testing. I loved all the designs because you could see how they were trying to solve the problem of a unique fighting weapon. Now I want to try lol. The last one had me laughing because I would be crazy enough to build something like this myself. Could definitely see it being used in a video game like Duke Nukem or Serious Sam. I really like gunblades.

21:22 The real thing used to be called KONCERZ. Polish heavy cavalry after initial charge and blow would pull it and from horseback, piercing infantry armour. Koncerz could get just as long as this one. Yet, already a heavy piece would turn to anvil-class with any additional guard. It was something like simplified, heavy uber-colichemarde. Bare spike and a limited cross-guard some even with no guard at all.

I think, provided they could get the steel for it and mass produce their traditional weapons they could have arrived at an oar glaive. The mace-pike reminded me of something I've been working on, nearly have polished. A winged spear with a thin tip for piercing maille and curved wings on the sides, a rondel guard 2 feet below the langets for thrusting, and a mace-like flanged cap at the end for counterweighting and butt end striking. actually balanced closer to the cap by a notable amount for better fine point control, as the head isn't optimized for cutting.
@whyjay9959
@whyjay9959 Год назад
I've been thinking about something like the mace-pike. Putting the thrusting part on the opposite end to the bludgeoning part gives you better control over the point because of the balance. Also removes the concern of bending the spike/blade if you swing and don't hit quite as intended. But there is the concern of what options it gives your opponent if he grabs it.

Thick 36 in. Long oak shaft. The mace head makes it so you can choke all the way up on it and hold it that way with relative ease. However the spear makes it so you can pretty much only swing the mace diagonally or you rish impaling your stomach.

The Bill Hook sword that looks like a loud Corbin. It's just a bill blade if that blade had a heavy tip then it would be more like a pickarune.

I can see that last joke one being used in Monster Hunter or even Bloodborne, with some tweaking!

My favorite is the coathanger one... I can totally picture that person growing up in a home with a lot of siblings where they used coathangers to battle each other! LOLOL, I want to see that now...

The coat hanger looks like a LARP gun dagger I used to use, it was very effective . the nerf gun part wasn't alwas the best, the secon shot was iffy but the dagger part was the best shot mele weapon I ever had.

I am not able to draw/design, but i think a pair of goedendags joined by a chain like giant nunchucks would be practical and interesting. The goedenwochend

The batleth sword has one mayor flaw: The center of mass would pretty much be in the middle, which would make it feel like a brick in onehanded use. Still a pretty cool design. It has a missed opportunity in not having an armor piercing point, cause the thing was just made for halfswording xD Edit: The Ramrist, and having a closer look, the balance would be more towards the tip because of an extra axe socket behind the center point.

it looked to me like a gun sword/axe hybrid to me, like an oversized bayonet.

@@ishill85 Im also liking that all steel mace with a spike on one end. Would be unwieldy af as a mace, but I suspect your primary 'weapon' would be the spike, for, you guessed it, halfswording and switching to the mqce if an opportunity presents itself :D

@@ishill85 yeah, I just might make that some time down the line... If Skall sees this: Id be interested to gift it to you if youd cover the cost of shipping 😆

I have to say, I kinda' want a coat-hanger sword now. It really hits my 'short, choppy sword' vibe.
