This is the most significant speech in The Wire. It goes to the heart of the series. To many people sleep on The Paper Bag Speech. I think this was written by Richard Price who wrote The Color of Money and The Warriors back in the day.
Hands down the greatest monologue in tv history. It hits on so many layers. The delicate balancing act of police, and the public. Being protectors of citizens, rather than seeming to be an occupying army. Respect, whether it be not needlessly harrassing the public. And in turn the people showing respect, and gratitude to officers who willingly will lay their lives on the line for them. Thats the ideal, anyway. The dialogue is economical, poetic, effective. Its transcendent.
This is a very good speech, kind of a speech only good leaders could give. I am surprised there is no the Wire fans as much as they are on other videos comment section
Bc the wire is an incredibly complex and sophisticated show. Most people can’t comprehend and follow what goes on and the dynamics of the show. They would rather just deal with whatever drama some stupid kardashian has with what she’s wearing.
