Kenard was the young boy Bunk witnessed imitating Omar at the Barksdale stash house shootout. Bunk then goes to tell Omar what he saw and that "death ripples." Two seasons later, Omar is killed by Kenard.
Why would u hate him over any of the others? Do u realize they are ALL criminals and sociopaths? Even the characters we all love & root for more....Stringer, Omar, Marlo..they were ALL killers & destroyers of their own communities.
Corona Virus yeah we are all well aware. it’s also a tv show. when you watch it, you have to accept at face value what you are watching. pretty much every non-cop character is not just some innocent civilian. by the way i never once rooted for stringer, i couldn’t stand him lol. anyways, kenard was just a hated character because unlike someone like omar or marlo, there’s hardly any backstory or in depth look into him. he was just a little dick. it’s not super deep or anything
Sometimes I wonder if Kennard just shot Omar out of pure curiosity. Just to see if Omar lived up to the stories you can see how shocked he is at the results
That does make sense, but I also think he shot him because he saw him wounded and not as a threat anymore.. Plus he may have figured he would get a big name taking out someone like Omar..but I think its because Omar was wounded n look defeated
You seem to forget he’s a kid very very very few children have the ability to think and plan something like that out. It was like a curiosity like how some will jump out a window to see if they can fly.
@@tonesosa5155 "robbing they corner you'll slow" Um I'm guessing you mean "robbing THIER corner Y'ALL ARE slow" smh can't call someone slow talking like bubba gump
that scene earned my respect for Bunk. Until then I thought he was just another lardass tv detective who didn't really care about anything. And I liked that he didn't want play along with McNulty's weird fake serial killer scheme.
@Tom Ross TV omar was a predator who preyed on other predators. Kind of like what Alonzo said in training day , "it takes a wolf to catch a wolf" it's the only way to protect the sheep.
I appreciate that Kenard took a break from his long day of setting cats on fire to shoot someone in the head. He's a real go-getter. He's going somewhere.
He got taken out because he was too emotional....he was so upset with Marlo killing Butchie he was out in the streets exposing himself which he NEVER did. Even when he was chasing Avon and Stringer he wasnt walking the streets he stayed hidden.
Kenard had zero adult supervision. No parents around him. No older or younger siblings either. The scary part is that there are REAL Kenards in every major urban community.
The Kennard I knew end up leaving the life and still somehow being killed. His roommate shot him after he shot at him in an argument about rent. Just show how you really need guidance cause that could have went another way with nobody using guns. The guy got off on self defense, too.
I knew a Kenard when I was growing up, dude was doomed from the start. Mom worried about recapturing her youth, gang member father who encouraged all the trouble he used to get into, and damn near every single person around him was into some bad shit and would hype him up because he was so young doing it. He was the only 11 year old I knew with a house arrest monitor lmao. He had a freestyle out that did over 1M ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fr9AGCLb_js.html
The Kennard I knew was like 12 and he killed his own blood cousin over a 30 dollar dice game and put 9 bullets in his face because his pride was hurt. Wicked.....
Omar’s death caught me off guard, but it was realistic though, he’s a human not this mythical person who can’t be touched, and having Kenard shoot him was much more convincing than one of Marlo’s goons
No No No I'm from flatbush Brooklyn and I'm 37... In my 37 years I've seen two Omar's I swear to you.... They have beef with the world but in their end of day it was a regular mojo who just was not having it.... And trust me these dudes rob gangsters for there guns and work....
Omar prided himself on being a good guy but didn't take into account the horrible effects his actions were having on children. Kenard was one of those kids. That became his downfall. Show is a masterpiece
@@alvarojnetoyea you rite Omar prided himself on having a code rip to Omar little and to Michael k Williams he was a great actor and this is my baby
The show is amazing! Any other show with a character like Omar would make his death scene something epic like a shoot out, but this show is real. Big or small anybody can take you out in a heartbeat. Best show I've ever seen!
I liked Omar and I loved that Omar died that way. He is one of the best and most admirable character in the wire, but he is a bad influence on his community. His legends did not inspire these children to make sth out of themselves as good, honest citizens. They just want to be the new generation of legendary killers. Omar unintentionally caused his own death. It is poetic justice. He did not died by his enemies but by the negative byproducts of his life.
Namond is in the street world a "P***y" and Kenard did what would've eventually happened to Namond in the future anyway. Kenard was the type of individual that would've been Michael's muscle on the streets.
Honestly the show fucked up by not having an Omar and Marlo confrontation after Butchie was killed. The kenard ending is fine too but we were all hyped up in suspense when Omar was walking around on his war path calling out by Marlo in the streets. I think him doing that killed Marlos rep which was everything to him.
"You tell that man I'mma drop _all_ his muscle, until he get the heart to come down to the street and dance." Omar was such a hardcase, yet he always had a heart too. RIP Michael K Williams, gone too soon.
5:48 you can hear the bell ring and omar looks. He probably looks at kenard and looks away as he doesn’t see kids as a threat. Never noticed how they set this up with Kenard not being scared of omar, and omar having his guard down
What I want to know.. Is if the creators intend for it to be implied that Kenard already has the gun on Omar? I believe he does by the way that Omar looks down but still ignores it and continues asking the clerk for things..
What the detective told Omar were truest words told. Growing up the neighborhood did have a sense of community. If people saw you had something going that could take you out of the streets, they wouldn't intervene with that.
Omar was the most honorable criminal in this show tbh. Bunk was right, but he was talking to the wrong person. When Bunk was talking about him, he was actually talking about real POS like Marlo and Chris who killed kids, girls, old men like that blind guy, without remorse. Omar had a code and conduct, and he didn't harm Innocents or kids
I don’t think it was to make him flinch, he definitely knew Omar wasn’t scared of anyone. It was more so to show him they came from the same place and even though Omar was feared everywhere, Bunk didn’t care. That’s what I think anyway, that’s the great thing about the wire, there’s so much for everyone to interpret themselves
@@mdd04000 I agree. I doubt Bunk was actually trying to scare Omar. The Wire is very interesting show with a lot of nuanced details, symbolism, and allusions in the storytelling and dialouge
Bunk just talked how they did in the street and their code, so he got angry and made a go at omar out of mad and bottled emotions manifesting about the difference of how it was and how it is. Nothing at Omar, not looking for a flinch, just an outburst of emotion and him doing what he did
I think there is a third connection. 1) Omar had a bit of a conscience and never attacked the weak and defenceless. 2) Michael stood up for the weak and defenceless (Dukie, Bug) and at times got bothered by Marlo's Crew killing soo indiscriminately. 3) All three paths would meet when Omar picked Michael to pass on the message to Marlo (almost as if to pass on the "Omar torch to him" before,, 4) Getting killed by Kenard who emulated him. 5) Michael would later become "The New Omar" And because Michael has a soft spot for kids he too might get killed by a kid he didn't suspect would be a threat,,just as Omar did not think anything of it when he saw Kenard.
More Live If Kenard becomes Omar, it’s only fitting that he becomes more vicious, like no other before him, because the next generation, like Marlo, doesn’t give a DAMN!
A couple of things stand out - 1) When Marlo had first come at Mike, Mike had first avoided him but stared him straight in his eyes when provoked. However, when Omar grabs him - literally a limping and injured Omar - all he does is shudder. Omar's reputation was not to be played with. 2) When Omar pulls up on the corner he seals his faith - as Kenard asks "That's Omar?" when he limps away. the image of Omar as a fearsome killer is broken in his head. He sees Omar with a gun and is quiet because everyone else is scared - but he isn't impressed. 3) In the last scene, all the kids run away at the sight of Omar but Kenard sticks around - not only because he wants to kill him - but the fear Omar commanded is gone in his eyes. 4) Omar is so aware he watches the door open as Kenard steps in, watches his activities for a couple of seconds - turns his attention away probably thinking "It's just a kid." 5) Kenard is in disbelief when he finally kills Omar - he is obviously shocked that he actually killed someone - let alone that he killed Omar. 6) The lady cries "Omar is dead!" - for her, he may have been a source of protection - in fact, I can imagine Omar pulling up on someone in the past who may have tried and rob the store or such. As he mentioned, he never hurt anyone who "wasn't in the game".
To your First point: Remember what Mike said:"If he would have made me from the apartment the other night. I might be laid out myself". It wasn't fear, per say. But if Omar RECOGNIZES him.😎
Agree with all your points, unsure if I’m remembering correctly, but I think when Marlos asking about who killed Omar, someone says the Korean crew above the store so it’s possible she knew him from a stick up
I will never forget the moment when I realize Omar only spit out because the info he just took in was a tuff pill to swallow literally and metaphorically Just genius writing all around
The Wire was famous for doing stuff like this..That’s also why they let the spit hang from his lip to show even tho he didn’t wanna hear what Bunk said some of it still STUCK to him..Damn The Wire is a masterpiece
That scene with Bunk and Omar might be my favorite scene in the series. You know the actor that played Bunk was jumping at the bit to do that scene when he read how brilliant his monologue was. Easily the best show in TV history.
It’s all symbolism which The Wire was infamous for..Notice Omar spits after Bunk walks away implying that Omar didn’t “swallow” the information being said to him but the show also leaves some spit hanging to also show what Bunk said some of it stuck to Omar
@@thetruth619ful For sure Bird was dense. Marlo on the other hand was adaptive and played the short term like no one else. And seeing how Kennard thought he could take on Omar I think he's quite dense as well considering hadn't Kennard been so young he would've got capped no question.
I didnt notice any of this! Its crazy on how when he ran up on Michael,Kenard was like that's Omar?I didn't even realize Kenard was the one putting the gasoline on the cat!
RIP Omar. The badest stick up artist in Baltimore. The guy Omar was based on played the part of Donnie (actual name) the guy butchie sent to protect Omar in jail - Donnie Andrews. He's dead now RIP.
I feel that they left so many stories untold and questions unanswered that they can easily bring this back. Shorty could be the new Omar, Michael, the new Chris Partlow and Marlo, can still be running things a decade plus later.
It's crazy cuz Omar was on point with everything the minute he let his guard down he got it he look over seen it was a youngin though nothing of it....(classic scene)
In Baltimore The kids scream Omar yo’ then scatter in fear, But in the islands where he went on holiday the kids were screaming Omar! Running towards him in joy. Just shows how big the world really is.
I remember when I first binged watched 'The Wire' (years after it had gone off), the two deaths that FR FR brought a tear to my eyes were Bodie's and definitely Omar's. You got the sense that both of them were just tired and weak from trying to be done with the game and their deaths were impactful!
What broke my heart was that Poot urged Bodie twice to let that corner go before he got hit. Once Poot left him, I knew he would get killed and die alone. It's kind of poetic. Bodie killed Wallace because he wanted to stay in the game and Bodie was killed because he didn't want to leave it. Both had better options. Both were presented with choices that would've saved them, but they chose the one that got themselves killed.
Out of all the times I have watched The Wire, I never once put it together it was Kenard that was the kid that wanted to be like Omar when the Bunk was trying to solve Tasha's murder--mind officially blown and I have been watching this show for years now--just says more about the genius that were the writers of that show--one of thee best !
Omar wanted to die.. when his Bf got killed and Butchie got tortured he gave up on life which is why he calling Marlo out. He knew Marlo was gonna kill him he just wanted to go out in a furious blaze but Kenard got the drop on him
@@ticalbenjamin5494 he actually stayed around for all of season 4 and robbed Marlo at the card game. That's what got him killed inevitably. Also he robbed Marlo, Joe and the whole co-op of an entire shipment of herion. You think Marlo was gonna let that shit go twice? Suprised they didn't kill Omars grandma too.
I agree. Omar wanted to die. The old Omar would have gone into hiding and waited. The deadliest thing about Omar was that you never knew when or how he was coming. He gave up that advantage by calling out Marlo. Omar was much too street wise to concede any advantage so the only logical explanation is that Omar was ready to die. He knew he didn't have as many guns as Marlo and he would likely die in gun fight against all the guns Marlo had.
@@icantgetup I remember he did become Omar during his renegade period but I personally appreciate Micheal as the hustler, it can be done I see it and would still embrace it.
So when I watched the Wire I seen things come full circle like Mike being the next Omar, that one soft kid being the next bubbles... who was Kenard on his way being?
Always thought Kenard and Marlo seem very similar. I bet Marlo was that really small kid that wanted to be tough and he got beat down and took a life early.
The jump Bunk gives at 1:53 is such a great little moment. The level of anger inside him regarding Omar is so strong and visceral that for a split second there it looks like he's gonna lose it. And Omar just doesn't even flinch, he just sits there and takes it all in. Phenomenal performances
It’s also amazing that a man like Omar, whose life it is to sense those around him and be able to see steps ahead, was completely unaware to Kenard walking in, lifting up the gun and hitting him point blank. Kenard was so damn small it’s like the code and rules to the game a boy like Kenard would NEVER do what he did lest he felt Omar’s or anyone else’s wrath. In the end, Omar wasn’t invincible - he just like everyone else and when Kenard saw him in that lowly gimpy state he saw that he wasn’t a big deal at all. Man what a show I miss it
All the stories kennard heard and when he seen him limping just didn't add up because Omar was like invincible from everyone else mouth and kennard was like this is Omar this is who scaring everyone
Kenard didn’t stop doing what he was doing when people called Omar out. The fact that Omar didn’t notice is wild, almost every person runs or tucks tail.
Hearing the bell ring when Kenard walks in and seeing Omar look up made me think of the bell that Tony Soprano heard on the last episode of the sopranos. Many people presume that Tony was shot in the back of the head after hearing that last bell. Fans of the sopranos will know what I'm referring to.
You know earlier in that same season tony asked "what is dying like?" And his friend said " i think it just goes black curtain closed shows over"...and thats exactly what happend
*It's kinda crazy the police are not* running them kids off, considering there are actual dead bodies just feet away and the fact it's still an open crime scene investigation. 🤔
I like how in season 5 Kenard continues to work for Michael like he didn't take any of the brutal beating he got from him personally. hate him or no, kid's really built for the street
When Bunk talks about hanging out with the "tough kids" reminds me of that Key & Peel skit "Consequences" where the character "Donny Herrera" says "I thought it would be cool to hang out with the tough kids..."
Bunk: You don't even know what the fuck I am talking about. The delivery of this line is good and everything from his cadence of speech to his body moments feel so authentic. Absolutely nails that line.
