W. C. Fields famous quotes and sayings.
Fields created one of the great American comic personas of the first half of the 20th century: a misanthropic and hard-drinking egotist who remained a sympathetic character despite his snarling contempt for dogs, children, and women. The music is Stomp and Swing and you can find it on Smartsound.com
Here are some of his famous and not so famous quotes and wisdom.

My favourite WC story - Bill takes a young woman into a bar for a drink: Bill - "well my dear, what will you have to drink?" Her - "Guess I'll have champagne" Bill - "...guess again"

My favorite quotes of his seem to be missing from this list: 1) "A man's got to believe in something; I believe I'll have another drink!" ... and then there's the line attributed to him on his deathbed; someone came into the room and was surprised to see him thumbing through a bible... caught in the act, WC enacted his famous fluster and said, "Just looking for loopholes!"

Love W.C. - Always loved the story that in his last days, he worried about the rain being late to his area in CA and his wife sprayed the roof to soothe him to sleep - sweet

WC Fields had a lot of sarcastic jokes about Philadelphia. WC Fields was born in Philadelphia, and not even a Statute or Plaque in his name to honor the man, but there is a Statute of Rocky Balboa; a fictional character. Pathetic; now you can understand where all the jokes come from.

W.C. Fields is a most interesting study. One might say he 'stepped way outside the box'. But I like to think that he said it "straight-on". And one can take it or leave it, as it be.

He also was one of the best jugglers in the world in his time!

He had his moments. The best story I heard was when he was on his deathbed reading the Bible (he was a longtime devout atheist). His best friend came into to his room and said "Bill your an atheist, what are you doing reading the Bible?". Without hesitation he looked up and said "Looking for loopholes"...

This type of music hall humor is priceless and timeless. Of course the alcohol gags have to be seen in the context of Americas absurd and deadly prohibition laws. Most media entertainers these days do live stand up comedy as a right of passage and I expect WC Fields honed his skills in countless live stage appearances before making it onto the big screen. A lot of of these people (eg Marx brothers and Benny Hill etc) had family backgrounds as 3rd generation circus clowns etc. Thoroughbreds?

1. He actually didn't say the one about water and fish. 2. Sadly, he actually didn't hate kids and animals but only kept it a secret.

Wrong. The.cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn was based solely on "Senator" Claghorn, a loud - mouthed, non-stop talking comic on Fred Allen's radio program "Allen's Alley."

His grandson's book has pics of him with his parents and family. His films show the "character" he played. There is a story that he had a small pond on his place. C.B.DeMille's grandson fell in and drowned. Fields quietly had the pond filled in.

It's not Sing, SIng, Sing as we may know it. Rather it's a spiffy version ala Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa. If in fact it's not actually the Benny Goodman Orchestra along with Gene Krupa themselves. But/And way cool nevertheless! :)
