I’m in the middle of gutting the house, doing laundry, making steak pie. At midnight a good friend will be the first through my front door ( yes, he is tall and dark), while we’re being noisy and dancing. Watching this on NYE, house isn't clean but am burning a bunch of old paperwork, gonna sweep the energy w a cinnamon broom and burn it, not just end of a year but a cycle at a place I've lived a long time...I actually don't know what or where is next, so trying to lighten the heaviness of the past and it's always satisfying to recycle or burn old worries and dramas. Well my friend, so end's another year. Fermented potato, aka vodka? I wish you a happy new, and for us all, that it is a better one. I shall be seeing in the new year at my local Royal British Legion club, and so I won't be alone for that time. Last year, I didn't celebrate, and the year was not so good for me. Soon I will cook a meal, eat and prepare for the coming festivities. I like fireworks and have always been so since childhood. In 2008, I saw the fireworks in Funchal Harbour at New Year. I thought it was very impressive 👏. Well, that's it for this year, have a good night and see you next year.
The Yule energy this year on the solstice was very good energy for me and powerful. I burned palo santo to clear my house and burned a soy candle. non alcoholic apple cider as a toast. And meditated and asked my mama who passed in Oct, 2022 to please forgive me because my family went away on vacation, ( we didn't know she was so sick but when we returned I didn't visit and then she collapsed and 8 days ltr in ICU she was gone. We were right by her side for the 8 days and holding her hand when the fentanyl stopped her heart in hospital/ hospice care was some gut wrenching shit! Mama was 81.5 and lucky to have her for those years. She was walking around shopping etc before we left on vaca then BAM!! Then 8 days later she was gone. Well mama was a bit jealous of my small functional family and we had a good vacation in Canada although intense feelings persisted and not a light vacation at all!! Well my mom died on my wedding anniversary! So I'm still confused, was it her forgiving me for leaving her on our trip or did she curse us and my family for leaving then? or am I still just traumatized. and a bit nuts... 😅 My mama was also a witch her ancestors being from Naples Italy and she knew she was going to die in October as she had mentioned it to me many times. And yup October 11th way before midnight she died it was on my F- ING anniversary!! So now me and my hubs can't even celebrate on that day if you know what I mean. I think the old Naples witches might have been a bit vindictive. My mom could be sweet and also crazy at times too. we were in a happier/ closer/ light hearted relationship before her death. but her two sisters are very evil minded and treated us poorly when my mom was dying! I don't associate with them now. Any advice is appreciated. ❤

i consider myself a "cottage witch" (of sorts). buuuuuuut, after practicing my path for over 35 years, i must say that i still find cleaning to be boring a happy 2024 to you!
Does anybody else still observe the 'first footing' rite? I can't remember it, particularly well, but the one we did involved a piece of coal. I think, this year - come midnight on the last day, I might try to find a piece of coal and then hop (try to remember to use the right leg) back and forth across the threshold. Several times. Just for good measure. My mother would get almost frantic about the first footing. Nobody could come in unless they did it the right way.
Really a great video. Interesting, I saw a recent blog on the Umort (sic?) people in Russia and how this village maintains those very sacred traditions despite the numerous social changes over the centuries .
