Some quick points: 1. The story of Renfri is from the books (Lesser Evil). 2. Stregobor captured and killed all those girls (Mousesack told Ciri that long time ago girls were captured and killed). 3. Ciri aks her grandmother about her first battle, when she was her age (Renfri says to Geralt, that Queen Calanthe just won her first battle).
One thing i noticed watching the full episode reaction just now. They literally give you the Geralt-Ciri timeline in the 1st episode: 1. Calanthe mentions to Ciri she won battle at hochebuz when she was Ciris age (So before Ciri was born so you know its atleast 15~ years ago) 2. Renfri tells Geralt in the forrest "Calanthe just won her first battle at hochebuz" I did not catch this on my first watch tho.
Longer than that, Calanthe is Ciri’s grandmother. Therefore if Ciri is 13, then the queen was 13, so actually the Renfri story was more than 30 years earlier. You’ll find out later in season that Geralt is well over 100, magic and training has extended Witcher’s lives to centuries rather than decades.
Mr. Sapkowski first wrote a collection of stories. In some, there is a big time difference. It's hard to show on the show. By the time Yen meets Geralt, she has been a wizard for over 100 years. For someone who hasn't read stories it can be hard to understand.
@@tysonas1 I know i said atleast 15~ because im not sure of Ciris age so i didnt want to overextend, I just liked to point this out because i know many people complained the timelines were confusing and badly done (mostly on reddit)
@@theuprising2216 Yea i do too but at my first watch i was too busy writing down names, cities, monsters, plot points etc and i thought Renfri was referring to "Calanthe won at battle of hochebuz" as the past but no she says "SHE JUST WON"
@@normalmighty Dude, this is the first episode of a series/world I know absolutely nothing about. How should I know how likely or unlikely it is for them to meet or not meet? It is absolutely a spoiler.
I'm so glad this show got one big actor and then the rest are relatively unknown to 90% of people (bar Adam Levy). It's fantastic, now we have even more exceptional talent to look forward to in the next decade and beyond.
@@Ronin5B So there goes the rule, straight off the window... To my defense, I only read about it at the beginning of Witcher casting, way back last year. No escape from GoT in real life. By the way, what a great Yoren Francis Magee was.
Henry Cavill was THE PERFECT choice to play Geralt. When he said “Fine” in that gravely voice I knew no one else could play this character. Also this is the best sword fighting I have seen in my life. Take notes Star Wars.
@aspi rine The casting choice for Fringilla Vigo was a travesty... And anyone who actually read the books knows why. *cough* Cahir's aunt *cough* Anna Henrietta's second cousin *cough* is supposed to look a lot like Yennifer *cough*
For me too deep voice that all Geralts got in English dub through all media, just feels not natural and fake. Makes his inhuman in the worst way, especially with how monotone english voice acting gets. Mixing it up with soulless english translation of book's dialogue style, makes for really cheap B-class fantasy feel the whole Netflix series has.
Queen Calanthe isn't Skelligan royalty, Eist was King of Skellige as well as King of Cintra. Bran who you probably know from the games, is his brother.
@@DinkLover69 they were literally in the other room recording another reaction - these guys do so many shows they often split up. Arron, Eric and Melonie for example do the Arrowverse stuff without this trio.
Was really looking forward to Eric's reaction as well. He's so into choreography and fight scenes.. This show would be perfect. Either way.. Excited you guys are watching!
Henry Cavill is a witcher fan too, he played a little of the second game and a lot of the third, also read all the books, he said in an Interview, i actually think he is the best actor for this role
i also love how you can kinda tell Geralt is supposed to be used to fighting monsters with his style, He uses a lot of momentum of his body to make hard hits that would cut a monster in half but really he wouldnt need to do it against humans
My only drawback is that the fight with Renfri and the butcher of Blaviken is the best in the season. It just doesn’t get any better from here in terms of choreography and how it plays out which was a bit disappointing. I was expecting some to be even better than this but oh well. Sill hyped for Season 2.
Thank you to The Witcher for showing people what good swordplay is like instead of a lot of shaking camera closeups and weapon swishing bluriness. That was great
This is long overdue. But to anyone who doesn't know. Verruka (the little girl) asked is Gerult could tell her where Rivia is and Gerult said no, not because he didn't want to, ITS BECAUSE he doesn't know where it is. He was never really from Rivia, he just took the accent after hitting the path as a witcher. For personality to give himself
Love this show. First time I’ve heard of it. I am saddened to see Eric and Arron aren’t apart of this. It would have been so amazing to see everyone’s reaction to this awesome show. Id kinda like to know ahead of time who will be reacting to what when new shows like this come around. Just to soften the sadness when finding out it’s not the whole crew.
@@awildmoose6541 he would very much enjoy it , it is right up his alley, because it is a great show, not perfect, but very good, so stop spreading your negativity around just to be interesting, no one cares...
Hell yeah! I knew you guys would react to this, especially since rick is such a fan of Witcher 3. I just finished all the episodes yesterday, I binged the hell out of it in one sitting lol.
Damn I'm so happy that you are doing this Guys! This is what I wanted!! You gonna like this a lot and glad that one of you are a major Witcher fan!!! Good luck
I just realized, the woman with Geralt says that the Queen of Citra just won her first battle, now I see that they were hinting the timeline from the start
Yup. That was the only hint in the first episode, sadly. Only if you read the books you'd know that Geralt became the Butcher of Blaviken long before Ciri's birth.
I loved this first episode. Tbh I binged watched it all last night, but thanks BlindWave because I wouldn’t have watched this if I didn’t see the thumbnails for these reactions.
I love this channel, everyone is intelligent, has thoughtful opinions and always reacts to the best stuff. Got nothing but love and respect for you all and I have to say thanks for all the great times watching you all's videos. Keep killing it guys
#thewitcher season 1 was so great, can't wait for season 2. Nice reactions guys. Would love to see Eric and Aaron's reactions to this episode as well as upcoming episodes🙏🏽
I binged watched this all night. It was Awesome!!! I didn't know anything about The Witchers before watching it but I could follow it. I want to read the books.
The final fight against Renfri was actually done in reshoots because then they had the fightchoreographer from MI Fallout on board. So they basically remade that whole scene in reshoots
Multiple people probably mentioned this already but: Queen Calanthe was the Cintrian born queen. She married Eist of clan Tuirtseach for numerous reasons. One of which was to keep the allegiance with the Skelligen war front.
You should watch some interviews of Henry about the witcher. He has a really good understanding about the books, games, story and character. It's really awesome for someone like that to play this role, because then you already know it's gonna be good!
Watchmen deserves some more love. I hope they aren't avoiding it because of the backlash the show faced for being "too political", having a "left-wing bias", and for "making Rorschach racist". I thought those criticisms were ridiculous seeing as the source material was already pretty left-wing with strong anti-racism sub-text, and Rorschach was always implied to be racist.
Robert Winslade these guys are way too in the middle and out of the “social media war” to care about that or let it effect their view. They usually just reference things they’ve heard but still watch it for themselves.
Its some really good storytelling to show Mousesack projecting a force field around the castle first so then when Gerald does a sorta force push you can instantly recognize and understand what he did.
can we talk about how video gamie (in the best kind of way) the first episode is -- you have two opposing kill missions provided by both sides -- you attempt and fail to get the third peaceful option - your forced to make an ultimatum and then there is the moral choice at the end -- even the scen where ciri screams the bolder falls and creates a canyon between them is so video game logic translated perfectly to film i love it
