Fun Fact, Henry Cavill played the games, and he "stalked" netflix for months and "begging" to play geralt of rivia. he is a huuge witcher fan and he did an awesome job!
I haven't fact checked this, but my friend told me yesterday he loved being Geralt so much he didn't have a stand in at all for this series. For every shot that you see of Geralt that doesn't focus on his face, so his boots, or the back of his head for example, it's actually Henry Cavill.
@@NikkiStevenReact And he trained his Voice that he sounds like the Geralt from the Games. I´m excited about your next Reactions. Thanks for sharing! Greetings from Germany
@@Andre_APM Stop what? I'm not talking about things like nilfgaardian ballsack armor or gypsy triss. I'm talking about how they changed up the story so that it doesn't have as much sense and impact as it did in the books. Overall, season 1 is a pretty mediocre adaptation.
The story of Renfri is actually the author's favorite and it's intended to not be clear who was right and who was wrong and that's why it's so beautifully tragic. So happy y'all are watching this!
Geralt has basically been beaten down by the world and people, he's become cynical and he doesn't like to get involved in people's problems because it always ends badly for him. The problem with Geralt though is deep down he's a knight in shining armour, he can't not help people if he sees them in trouble, he's a genuinely good guy in that he can't stand about and let bad things happen. But it always ends in a backlash on him. Which is just sad because he sincerely wants to help and do good.
The Witcher in a nutshell. :) Even when you think you are doing good - you come out bloody and the consequences not what you'd imagine. That is the whole foundation and the games really expounded upon that. :)
@@sance777 Actually, they re-shot the whole episode after principle filming has ended and Henry brought in Wolfgang Steggemann to choreograph these fight scenes for the re-shoots. Wolfgang worked with Henry in Mission Impossible 4.
The battle at the end of this episode was freaking amazing! ⚔ Fun fact that all the fight coreographs in this show are made by Vladimir Furdik aka the guy who played the Night King. So just imagine the wasted potential in GOT season 8 when we could have seen such a freaking amazing fight scene between Jon Snow and the Night King
@@PPfilmemacher Ah thanks for correcting me. I was under the impression he did them all but still, just imagine the wasted potential. For example he did the coreography to Ser Arthur Dayne's and Ned Stark's battle and that was cool af.
@@jennig3862 the fight made by Vladimir Furdik didn't suit this show because it's too "hollywood", that's why he didn't comeback for more. Wolfgang Stegemann will take over from season 2 i believe
The producer of the show said she'd continue making seasons until the content runs out. There's a lot of content between the books and the games so expect for many many seasons.
She says she has seven seasons outlined out but enough content to go twenty. Also, she said the new season won't come out until 2021 because they don't want to feel rushed like they did last time - so expect even better special effects.
Another great show on Netflix is Dark. It is a German series with two seasons as of now, with the third one coming afaik. It is a slow burner, but very good and intriguing.
@@Ehterlink The English dub is horrendous! Couldnt make it past 30 seconds in. I think you just have to be sort of used to the different tones of German voices. Everyone only thinks of political propaganda and not the wide variety of voices and pronunciations
According to the author, the idea for Renfri was Snow White, and we know who Snow White's stepmother was and that is where Stegabor got his (bad) info about Renfri from,
Love the reactions, "He's hired to kill monst...OMG! " You guys literally had me laughing out loud...This show moves fast & has alot of info thrown at you, but it'll get more clear as the season goes on. Deep lore & great characters, all with shades of grey...Steven is gonna have a new "GUY"...Geralt of Rivia!
The Witcher series is by far one of my favorite fantasy series. One of the great things about it is its moral ambiguity. Nothing is black and white, it's all about the gray areas. You get presented with some information and you think it's obvious what's right and wrong and then you get the whole story eventually and then you realize that you're no longer sure which is good and which is bad. It's amazingly well written and thought out.
It is. And the show doesn't hold your hand and waste time with tons of exposition. You have to figure it out for yourself, notice the hints and piece it all together. I really like that!
This is gonna be really fun. One of my favorite shows of late. Loved the reaction from Steven when Geralt removed the head of Renfrie’s last henchman :D
Last year, I requested that you two react to the video "Game of Thrones Libertarian Edition" and the comment received a heart from Nikki! I am respectfully reminding you guys that you are now obligated to react to the video, as prescribed in the heart emoji contract. I am looking forward to the video! And I am looking forward to your reactions of the rest of the Witcher series! Such a good series!
Nearly a year late to this video but.... Fun fact: Henry did all his fight choreography for that fight scene (shot in one take, took multiple tries to get right obviously) but there was a stunt double for Renfri's actress. That stunt double is Lucy Cork, Henry's ex-girlfriend. Yes they shot this after they broke up :)
Geralt loves the ladies and the ladies love him. The show so far has tamed it down actually lol. Witcher mutation actually effect their sex drive increasing it . Sorcoresses also feel his magic vibrations and enjoy it very much 😆
Ok, I have to say - watching you two fresh to the lore is just pure joy. Consider me waiting for your videos when season 2 is up. and about the medallion he wears - it's special. It's a sign of the witchers guild, helping recognise them fo the ordinary folk. And also it is filled with magic and it has many functions, not all are described in the books, but it reacts to magic and monsters presence. It shivers, and by that the witchers know somethings up, especially with creatures that can shapeshift into human form. That 'magic org' Geralt does - it's an Axii Sign, one of low level spells witchers use in combat. This one is like a Jedi mind trick basically.
I believe Renfri's power is not influencing people but Precognition, Everything she said came true. "You were in the market, Covered in blood." He was there and after the fight he was covered in blood. "You made a choice, and you'll never know it it was the right one." That is what Stregabor said to him. "Your reward will be a stoning." The people of Blaviken threw rocks at him. "You will run, you will try to outrun the girl in the woods but you can not, the girl in the woods will be with you always, she is your destiny." Which we know at the end that Cirilla is running into the woods, some might think that the girl in the woods might be Renfri, but no, it is Cirilla, who we know is looking for Geralt after Queen Calanthe said that he was her destiny.
Recommend the series The Expanse as well if you two want to expand your SciFi experience BTW, probably the best modern space series going on right now :D
Thanks for this awesome reaction. I love the Witcher series. I think Henry plays the part very well. Love his oufit/looks and his voice. Also I was deeply impressed about the huge amount of work and HEART he put into this role. He loved to play the games himself, and in this he does all his stunts by himself. It's great to watch! I'm enjoying watching with you and are exited for you to learn more about the world of the witcher. ♥ Have fun guys! P.S.: NiKki you looked so beautiful in this vid. Gorgeous. ♥
Fun Fact I'm sure someone else has mentioned. Stregobor is played by Lars Mikkelsen, brother of Mads Mikkelsen, and the voice of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels...which upon realizing that I could no longer unhear.
So glad you are reacting to the Witcher. So glad, that I've stayed up till 4am waiting for this! I loved the show, enjoy the ride. Now I'm going to bed. Goodnight.
I’d not read the books, or had any real idea of the storyline when I watched this last month. It took till ep three with the can’t-get-out-of-your-head song in it, for me to realise I was really enjoying it. I love how chatty, funny and open Jaskier is compared to monosyllabic, grumpy, grunting Geralt. Love Yennifer too. Now why can’t I kick arse like these sorceresses!- or Geralt, obviously. Love this show, and can’t wait for series 2! I’ve been watching you guys since GoT, and really love how emotionally invested you are with the characters in this show, in such a short space of time. Your reactions are just fabulous because we identify with you! Much love from England🏴
I've been skipping your Vikings, Twd and bcs content cuz I haven't seen them for myself yet and I intend to so I am avoiding spoilers, so it goes without saying that it's good to be back with you guys for some quality reactions 🙂👍🙂 Here we go 😋
Exactly what I was going to say. Wish I could watch more of their stuff lately, but I am not caught up. Tell you what though, not watching them and looking for other reactors doing The Witcher really puts it in perspective. Nikki and Steven are very high quality reactors. They are entertaining yes, but production quality is really on point. Audio is great both on the show and themselves, the camera placement and zoom makes them feel more present. Its just good stuff.
Because it's not explained in the show: Witchers use a a type of magic called 'signs' which are basic hand gestures. The force push was the Aard sign and the sign he was using on Renfri was the Axii sign, which is basically the Jedi mind trick.
Henry carries this whole thing on his shoulders imho, just because of how well done his character is. Other characters imho are somewhat weaker, and some are downright miscast and deliberatly race swapped, which breaks the whole canon (more on that later). Otherwise, definitely fun show and DO PLAY THE GAMES, especially the 3rd one + expansions. They are THAT good! Also, Geralt and Jon Snow would make a brilliant team. To make it an awesome trio, throw in Guts the Black Swordsman in there and there you have the most badass team ever XD
I try to overlook the race-swaps because that's unfortunately the direction society's heading these days, and I can't let these PC folk ruin my entertainment.
Just saw the trailer for season 2, thought I’d come back here to get a recap. I love how Nikki writes notes so she catches everything, and this first season surely needed it lol
Ive been a big Henry Cavill fan for a long time. Glad this show is bringing him into a lot of people's attention. Dude is just an all around awesome human.
The first magic he did was to push Renfri's minions back, the one he did when he was talking to her was like in Star Wars, using the Force (magic) to convince Renfri to leave Blaviken, but she told him that magic didn't work on her.
Ahw.. I really wanted to see Nikki's reaction to Marilka saying she killed her dog for coin and joking about it. Not one reactor leaves this bit in their video's.. I was absolutely disgusted by Marilka at this point.
Elisa Werthenbach , I watched the full length on Patreon. Nikki was stunned for a second, like did she just say what I thought she said? There wasn’t a huge reaction. Probably why it didn’t make the cut. She was really focused on taking notes at the time. This first episode is A LOT to take in.
I think “My Guy” started w/Jon Snow but now includes other characters (better include Ragnar). I wonder if there’ll ever be a “My Girl.” 🤷🏾♂️ 🤔 Could you imagine if Daenerys had fighting skills like Lagertha?
If you haven't watched the trailers for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you really should. First one is called "Killing Monsters" the Second one is called "A Night To Remember".
Fun Fact: 2 actresses appear in this series who voiced characters in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt DLC games: 1. MyAnna Burring: Tissaia DeVries - Rectoress of Aretuza / Duchess Anna Henrietta in Blood and Wine DLC 2. Lu Corfield: Woman fletching the bows in EP 8 preparing for the Battle of Sodden / Iris Von Everec in Hearts of Stone DLC.
Yay, the Witcher reactions are here :D If you are interested, the Netflix channel released the "The Blaviken Fight Scene Shot By Shot" today with Henry explaining the fight scenes from this episode. Very cool! And .... Gerald is ALREADY Steven's guy, I can tell ;)
Did you know they weren’t even real? They were conjured by him, as well as everything else in there. They did help him with his “research” though , from a certain point of view.😉
@@Nandrall18-25 Not quite, they were conjured by the original resident of the Tower Stregobor lives in. He just never bothered to replace/reset them. (Undoing another Mage's spells is not easy) Besides, why would he want to?
I really enjoyed your reaction guys - you're going to love the Witcher's world - it's very grey and full of dilemmas. Will continue watching! P.s. The Witchers themselves aren't sorcerers (though they exist - Stregobor is a prominent one), but have some small control. The first he used during the fight at the end was the 'Aard' - a telekinetic wave, almost like a Jedi's force push. The second I forget the name of, but he tried to use it on Renfri as she held the little girl Marilka hostage - it's supposed to have a soothing and calming effect, but as Renfri said - she's immune to magic (as she herself was a mutant). I'm up to the 4th episode. You guys are going to LOVE ep. 3 ;)
I read the 7 novels and I know what will happen in the coming seasons, I can't wait to see adult Ciri, she is really the protagonist of everything, it's like the ring in the lord of the rings, btw Geralt is 91 years old lol but time passes slowly by the mutations that gave him as a child
I haven't joined you on a video in a little while, you covered shows that I either haven't seen, or I don't plan to. But I literally just binged this entire season YESTERDAY! So I'm pumped to be back with the Nikki and Steven family!
