It’s not post Witcher depression. It’s going through this game for months every day (or binging it like me during quarantine) and after finishing it realizing how depressed you were before and now you’re even more depressed because now you remembered you used to be depressed but the witcher made you forget and now it’s over

Well I have depression even before I started the game. Playing the Witcher actually temporarily lifted my depression. During the lockdown period this year I completed the whole trilogy of games and now every time I hear Witcher music it makes me nostalgic.

Ah, the home of those that needlessly hate on Bethesda for being, not worse, but different. First of all, let me remind you that Skyrim is four years older than Wither 3 so the fact you can even compare the two shows great strength on Skyrim's behalf. We are all entitled to our opinions however I fear I can propose a few of mine own. One cannot compare Skyrim and the Witcher as closely as most try to. While both being RPG's, Skyrim (along with most other Bethesda titles) do not force you into the role of anyone. The Witcher on the other hand (for better or worse) commissions you to play as Geralt of Rivia. This allows for a different style of gameplay, they can go into much more depth about the character and his feelings and ideas than Bethesda can ever do. And, consequently, the Witcher games are very story driven and character focused. Bethesda games do not go into as much detail about your character, indeed, for most the backstory is completely blank and yet to be decided. Comparing it to the rich lore of Geralt it may seem like a lazy and bland decision on Bethesda's half. Yet, in actuality, it opens up more opportunities. When playing Skyrim you don't play as someone as you do with Geralt, you are your character. You make up your own backstory, your own morals, ideals, thoughts, feelings, loves, hates, prejudges, interests and qualms. Bethesda games also have a larger amount of player freedom from the get go. You'd be hard-pressed to find a game that allows you to explore as much as Skyrim. All the thousands of unmarked events and areas. From a staff laying in a forest glade surrounded by mushrooms, to a dead saber cat and a brave soul nestled in a crag. From a tent on the coast with flowers, wine and an amulet of Dibella inside to an unfortunate mage that attempted to bewitch Skeevers against an icy cliff face. These may sound dull or inconsequential to you but if you play an ES or Fallout game rushing about trying to complete as many quests as possible then, I'm sorry, but you're playing it wrong if you want to experience the full thing. Stop and smell the snowberries and you'll find yourself lost in no time. Do you see the key difference; CD Projekt Red offer games that feel like Game of Thrones; full of character, meaning, personality and (an increasing amount of) sex. While Bethesda offers personal growth, freedom, scope, and grandeur. Both game developers play to their strengths and both game series are fantastic and a damn sight better than the majority of other games.

Do it, they're absolutely amazing. Going from the short stories to the novels is a bit of an odd change in pace but not bad at all. You should read The Last Wish first, then Sword of Destiny, then Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Swallow's Tower and finally The Lady of the Lake.

My dear frien told me one thing: dont start game until u read whole saga. 8 books i I'll never regret it, daaamn im so grateful to him for that. Must read!

The books are incredible, just remember to read them in order. A common mistake people make is thinking "Blood of elves" is the second book when it's actually the third.
