If you want to read the books, here is the correct reading order: The Last Wish Sword of Destiny Blood of Elves Time of Contempt Baptism of Fire The Tower of Swallows Lady of the Lake
@@missemmy246 and further is midquel "Season of Storms" (some people call it a fanfic written by author himself :D, action is located mainly at the biginning of timeline, but the best way is to read it at the end). Show (first season) will be based mainly on first two books and some elements will take from later novels (I hope next seasons will be based directly on novels). Greetings from Poland, Witcher's homeland :-)
The main character is Geralt of Rivia. He is one of the last Witchers. Mercenary monster hunters who have been subjected to murderous training and mutations since their childhood. Ordinary people despise them, calling them fools. His fates intersect with the powerful sorceress Yennefer and the young princess Cirlla who is like a daughter to him. It turns out that she has enormous power and also becomes politically important. Always neutral to politics Geralt, wanting to defend his daughter, falls into the whirl of political intrigues and plots.
It's highly recommended to read the books of the witcher saga. In Europe, especially in center europe, they are known by many people. I think they are very realistic and dark medieval fantasy books, with a lot of political background, with betrayals, intrigues ... for me one or the best books of the genre. The games are fine and take place after books, but nothing compared to books
Pretty excited for this, me personally I will probably wait to read the books. I've heard this show will closely follow the books instead of the video game trilogy. I only breifly played the Witcher 3 so my knowledge of the lore is little to none, either way can't wait to see more
In the Witcher universe, humans aren't local. 1000 years ago, an event called "the conjunction of the spheres" happened and with it, ibrought humans and monsters. The conjunction is like a break in space/time. Imagine a multiverse where reach universe is a bubble. In the conjunction, some bubbles overlapped, letting creatures and humans through these rifts into the continent. Problem is, humans reproduce like rabbits (compared to Elves and other non-humans). So they took advantage and took over the continent, slaughtering most of the elves.
Constantly in the books, characters comment about how terrifying a Witcher looks when they are using their powers, potions and other aids when they fight monsters. Geralt, being a Witcher, is no exception. I think the trailer nailed it.
Dark fantasy with lots of sex, violence, and political intrigue. There are superficial similarities to GOT, but the scale is more personal. It won't be zipping around across the continent and getting in the heads of rulers. Instead, it focuses on three individual's journeys, and the found family they become - Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri. The eyes at the end is because part of the way that Witchers fight monsters is to create potions which give them various powers - however, the potions are toxic but their mutated bodies can survive the poison. They also do limited spellcasting.
The only worse book adaptation I can possibly think of was 'Solaris' by Stanislav Lem with George Clooney as the main protagonist. Oh no, sorry, almost forgot about 'Ready Player One'. That shit was heartbreaking as well. And now we have this. Black people in 14th century Poland and the worst casting list possible. Rip to the project...
1. It is not poland nor europe 2. It is not "slavic" (you have not said that but many have), the author laughs over "slavic" fantasy 3. Humans came to the world ~1000 years before the events and live on the continent only for ~500 years so the skin colour does not depend on geography 4. Skin colour is almost never mentioned 5. Judging something without seeing it... Ah also I think the author confirmed that there are different skinned people in the witcher world (althought I don't remember where)
Did someone hit you? I can see the swollen and darkening veins and cheek across your face even though you have tried to cover with makeup. I'm sorry...should someone call 911?
