Poor Dorothy. It breaks my heart to see her so sad like this. I can't say how many times I wish I could comfort her, give her a hug, and tell her everything is going to be okay.
I feel sorry for the guard. "Please don't cry anymore! I'll get you to the Wizard somehow! Come on! I had an Aunt Em myself once!" How he could relate to Dorothy in that particular way, having an Aunt Emily as well.
@@MaskedMan66 the audio and soundtrack survives though, but the footage for it is sadly believed to be lost to history, hollywood and the film industry operated differently back then when it came to preserving films
“Professor Marvel said she was sick, she may be dying, and it’s all my fault! 😭 “I’ll never forgive myself, never never never. 😭 This hit my heart so hard, poor Judy, please don’t cry anymore.
Auntie Em wasn't sick, but she was crying because she felt so bad for giving up Toto & breaking Dorothy's heart (I doubt that she knew that Dorothy ran away). So it wasn't Dorothy's fault at all. Professor Marvel only said that just make Dorothy change her mind about running away & he also tried to warn her about the twister coming this way.
@@keshiaanders6452 All Dorothy cared about from the moment she spoke to the Professor was Aunt Em; that was at the back of her mind from then until she woke up.
I feel really bad about Dorothy she thought she was on her way home but she thought wrong she said so herself that her Auntie Em was so good to her and she never appreciated it running away and hurting her feelings 😢
Uki Right. And the heart-shaped clock was the gift to symbolize it. That’s what the Wizard meant by a “testimonial”, and a “small of our esteem and defection.”
I felt sorry more for Dorothy than I did for the guard. Especially when all her friends tried to comfort her. They were so loyal to her. Even if the guard did feel bad for her, I still say shame on him! It's his fault Dorothy was crying! He could've at least said he was sorry that he had to tell them the bad news that the Wizard didn't want to see them, instead of breaking it to them in a nasty sort of way.
Well first he didn't know Dorothy wanted to see the wizard because she wanted to get home. He just thought at first because the wizard was angry himself about the Wicked Witch of the West and due to fact that he heard about Dorothy being bullied by the witch AKA ''The witch's Dorothy.''that maybe they would coporate to stop the witch but even though the wizard said go away the guard thought the wizard didn't need help but as soon as he heard the real reason maybe that's why he told the wizard the real reason and they both had a change of heart.
I saw this for the first time on the big screen in 2014, after owning the VHS during the 1990's in my childhood. When the camera cut to the guard crying, pretty much everyone laughed, including me. I was literally dying for several minutes and felt so guilty about it.
“Professor Marvel Said She Was Sick. She May Be Dying, And It’s All My Fault! I’ll Never Forgive Myself... Never Never Never...”😭 This Is So Heart Touching. Just To Know What She Went Through Is So Sad 😭
What is amazing about the movie is that Frank Morgan played five different roles: Professor Marvel, the doorman at the Emerald City, the cabbie in the Emerald City, the Wizard's doorman, and the Wizard.
Dorothy and the Guard crying, i like to feel it reflects the fans crying and getting emotional that we will more than likely never get to see the lost deleted scenes from this movie, almost all of them are believed to have been destroyed long ago, except for the Scarecrow Dance. The Triumphal Return to Emerald City is the one deleted scene i wish survived the most, only a few seconds of that scene survive in the trailer.
It was the most expensive part of the movie, too. Mitchell Lewis, who played the Winkie Captain, had a dual role as the High Priest of the Emerald City, for which he was decked out in regal robes that weighed about a hundred pounds!
*Sheriff sniffs* Ramone: Oh Dude. Are you crying? Sheriff: No! I’m happy! I don’t have to watch him any second of the day anymore! I’m glad he’s gone! *Red Drives away crying*
What makes this sad is the last she heard of her auntie, she was sick and dying of a broken heart from Dorothy running away; now that she can’t get home, she’s afraid her auntie will pass away without the chance to see her again
Dorothy: I'll never forgive myself. (Sobs) Francine: You don't believe Dorothy Gale. She has no place to go and no one else to find for help. (Blowing Nose) Others: How could you have been so cruel? (Sobs) Guard's Mind: Oh, no. What have I done?
Guard: THE WIZARD SAYS "GO AWAY!" *Walks off and slams the door.* Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion: Go away? Smeago: *Mockingly* "Go away?" *Laughs at them*
Even though Dorothy looks like she is sobbing, I think it is actually crocodile tears particularly as she is able to cause the guard to change his mind. And her crying is so convincing even her friends fall for it.
Guard (shouts): "The Wizard says GO AWAY!" (Walks off, leaving Dorothy and her friends, not knowing what to do). All (in unison): "Go away?" Scarecrow (voice breaking): "Looks like we came a long way for nothing."
Lightning McQueen: Oh Dorothy I’m s-so sorry. *sobs* Belle: I-I can’t bare to see Lightning McQueen cry. SpongeBob: It’s so Heart Wrenching *The three of them hug Dorothy while sobbing*
Dorothy: My Aunt was so good to me. I never ran away and hurt her feelings. Bunga: *Sobs* (Stares at onions) Hey who left this bowl of onions here? Dorothy: I'll never forgive myself. Bunga: *Sobs* What? (To Onions) Would you get out of here!? Guard: I had an Aunt once. Fuli: *Sobs* (Bunga brings in onions) Hey!
@@MaskedMan66why do you always comment on very wizard of oz video it’s getting a little ridiculous and kind of obnoxious. How do you not get sick or tired of doing that?
Even though I know the guard is the same person who plays as the Wizard, it was mentioned that nobody is allowed to see the Wizard but, I guess only the guard can see him since he said that he will announce all four of them at once which means he saw and talked to the Wizard who told the guard to tell them to "go away."
Nope, Omby Amby isn't allowed to see him either. From the book: They had to wait a long time before the soldier returned. When, at last, he came back, Dorothy asked: "Have you seen Oz?" "Oh, no," returned the soldier; "I have never seen him. But I spoke to him as he sat behind his screen and gave him your message."
I didn't know Frank Morgan had five roles in the film. He plays Professor Marvel (The Wizard) but also as the guard/cabbie/wizard's assistant. He pretty much plays every man at Emerald city 😆😆😆😆😆😆
To be specific, Professor Chester Marvel, the Guardian of the Gates, the Cabbie, Captain General Omby Amby, and *deep breath* Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkel Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs, a.k.a. the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
@@dianebusby7047 Aw, shucks! 🙂 I don't know anything more than anyone else does who's read the Oz books; the Wizard tells Princess Ozma his full name when he comes back to Oz in "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz," the fourth Oz book. The other names also come from the books, except for Professor Marvel's Christian name, since he isn't in the books. I got his name from the script of the stage version of the MGM movie, which I've been in a few times.
A couple things I want to mention: First, Notice the crown bounces when it should've smashed into pieces. Second, I hated this part as a kid. I couldn't stand to see Judy in this emotional state. Even now, I feel like just giving her a big hug. Third, he's got water pipes urigating his head, they're hidden under his helmet. That's a bit cartoonish, don't you think? Finally, don't they know that a woman's tears is the most effective weapon?
First, why should it have smashed to pieces? You don't know what it was made of. Second, I understood why it was happening, but yeah, one just wants to hug Dorothy. Third, of course it's cartoonish, what's your point? Finally, obviously they know about a woman's-- or in this case, a little girl's-- tears; that's how come Omby Amby was reduced to a sobbing wreck.
There’s a certain continuity error that no one ever talks about or notices. 0:00 The lion is up close with his arms down. But at 0:01, the camera is far away and he has his right hand up. He looks like the lion was in a middle of a speech when the mean guard comes out of nowhere. Idk, to me it looks like this didn’t make any sense. What are everyone’s thought on this?
She did say earlier that she feels like there's something about them that is familiar to her. Maybe to her, the three remind her of the men working on her family's farm.
@@MaskedMan66 Well duh we know that. But she doesn't realize she's in a dream. What I meant is that Dorothy loves those boys enough that they manifested in her dreams. That's why she said they felt familiar to her.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl You don't get what I mean. In dreams, we're all, to use Glinda's words, "a little muddled." It's possible that even though she remembered her aunt and uncle, she may not have remembered the farm hands or Miss Gulch or Professor Marvel.
Sometimes, I imagine Dorothy instantly recovering after the guard lets them in and goes "works every time!" lol I know she probably wasn't but I often think it'd be funny if she did.
@@BeeKee404 Nah, she's an honest girl. Though you remind me of the "Donny & Marie Show" skit "The Wizard of Oz-mond," in which Dorothy (Marie) is crying inconsolably, then the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger himself) says, "Oh, please stop crying." Then she brightens and says, "Okay!" :-)
Okay, who really knows from Oz here? Which one of you knows the soldier's name? I don't mean the actor, we all know that's Frank Morgan. I mean the character's name.
This is a dark theory of mine, but here it is.. I think that the makers of the movie were abusing Judy Garland forcing her to cry and then they filmed this scene. If I’m correct, this is just not right...😢
