FILM DESCRIPTION:
When his brother dies, Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney) returns to Wales and reconciles with his father (Claude Rains). While there, he visits an antique shop and, hoping to impress Gwen (Evelyn Ankers), the attractive shopkeeper, buys a silver walking cane. That same night he kills a wolf with it, only to later learn that he actually killed a man (Bela Lugosi). A gypsy (Maria Ouspenskaya) explains that it was her son, a werewolf, that he killed, and that Larry is now one himself.

Lawrence Talbot really had it everything going against him. He was cursed as a werewolf and his father was both the phantom of the opera and the invisible man lol

“Dad… take the cane with you.” That line breaks my heart.

I see this less of a horror movie than a unwanted curse and fractured father son relationship. . Larry doesn't want to kill. And the father makes fatal mistake of disbelief with terrible irony. If only he had stayed behind to see tranformation. It's very moving and totally tragic. .Both actors superb.

Yeah but if he did Larry would have killed him cause sir John wouldn’t want to kill he’s own son plus be shocked at the transformation

He even calls Sir John "Dad" rather than "Father" as he had been doing the whole movie. It was Larry at his most vulnerable and afraid.

"Dad?" "What is it?" "Take the cane...with you." This father/son dynamic is part of what makes this film so compelling. Through Larry's turmoil as a werewolf, we see who both of these men truly are. Larry detaches himself from any uncomfortable situation and is pretty mild overall except when provoked to anger. Sir John wants to respect his son, but is frustrated at how Larry isn't in line with his views on masculinity, calling him gullible behind his back and using primitive means of dealing with Larry's situation. He mentions that being the "demonstrative type" has lead to "unhappy extremes." Tying Larry to the chair gives an idea of what that must've been like during Larry's childhood.

This clip ought to be called: 1:01 "That's what she said!" HAHA!!! Ok, I have a question now for any monsters' fans: in which golden age Universal horror film does a character say to another "don't call me Pop!"?? I'm pretty sure it's not Colin Clive to Frankenstein, and I'm also sure it's not Dracula to Dwight Frye. XD I've been trying to remember for days! Any ideas?
