I love listening to your narration of ANY story. Ridiculous that someone would suggest you hire a female narrator! Some people spend way too much time looking for opportunities to be offended. And your American accent is pretty good; seems a lot of actors immediately fall into an exaggerated Texas accent when trying to sound American. Keep up the great work.

From one Lisa to another, I couldn't agree more. I love this man's voice! He could read ingredients lists or instructions for how to change tires, and I'd be here for it. I enjoy his post-story chat, sharing information about about the author he read or the inspirations & bits of real life that pop up in his own stories, in which we get to learn more about him. I love the starry wallpaper behind him when he films himself reading.

The reason I click on any story you narrate is because your command of your voice and total absorption into each character makes any story come alive to me. The main reason I see a story you've written and immediately click on it is that I know I will get a delicious shiver down my back. Carry on, my friend. Ignore the riff raff and carry on.

I don't think it matters whether you're a man reading a story about a female or vise versa.. It's a fictional tale and provided it's done well it doesn't matter to me. Why limit yourself? By the way, I enjoyed the story, with a bit of extra detail it would make a good short horror film. Cheers 👍

I choose the stories on RU-vid, BBC sounds, archive, etc by the voice of the narrator. I enjoy your voice very much. No need for a female narrator. In fact when it’s a story that in the person of a female, I rather like the momentary mind adjustment to get used to a male voice. For what it’s worth that’s my two cents!

I find your voice very soothing and smooth, and really enjoy your story-telling ways :-) Let the complainers be ignored, and hopefully they will just go away..... I wouldn't even give them any airtime, in terms of acknowledging their pointless whining- as a regular listener of yours, I would much rather you spend that extra time reading a 2nd short story :-D Cheers Tony, and thanks for the stories!!

Listen to your heart! If you worry about the others, they own you! You have an awesome soul to be creating these stories that sound as if they've been around for centuries as a reminder of where we come from and that we all should be caring human beings. Those who complain have so many troubles but don't know how to go about ridding themselves of pain except to cause others to suffer. They especially need your stories. Thank you for sharing your creativity. Try not to waste your time apologizing; instead, use that time to create more stories to touch our hearts.

I started listening to audiobooks back in the late 70s or early 80s, and on cassette, when I started working on a lot of needlepoint, and I never cared whether the book was written by male or female, or whether the main character was male or female. All I cared about was whether the narrator was clear and easy to listen to. I think your narration style is very good and one I could listen to for hours, and have done while listening to your audiobooks. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the comments like what you were mentioning as I imagine most of your followers feel as I do. Tony, I don’t think you’ll see my comment (I realize this video was uploaded 2 years ago)- but this really got me riled up. You are a wonderful narrator, a wonderful story teller. You don’t need nor ‘should’ you employ a female narrator. No good storyteller needs anything but himself. If people are going to try to “gatekeep” who can narrate what, based on the sex, gender, race, ethnicity, location, etc. of the characters or the author, well then I guess I can’t read anything but books written by white, middle-aged, American women whose paternal grandparents were born and emigrated from Austria (yes, purposely ridiculous, but true!). Literature is art, and art is an integral element of our collective humanity. Those type of comments- pay them no mind. They can go to other channels- this is your channel, your creation, your art, and you do what best suits you. If people don’t recognize your hard work, talent, and insight- they can go. And, sadly for them, be the less for it.

I was riled up then too but I’m fine about it now . I rarely bother about this now. My current bugbear is people telling me they dont like my comments afterwards and because they don’t like them I should stop!

@@ClassicGhost How kind of you to respond! By the end of this video, you had made yourself clear. The world is just insane now. If people don’t like your interesting, informative, historical, contextual, and often amusing thoughts and comments, they can close the video when the wonderfully narrated story ends. I have no idea why people think they can tell you (or any other creator) how to run your channel. Much respect to you for carrying on so gracefully. Every story you narrate is a beautiful gift, and greatly appreciated!

@@ClassicGhost Completely agree! It’s bizarre, especially when you put it ‘real world’ context. You are sharing your significant talent with the rest of the world- and listening costs the world nothing. Yet instead of being grateful, people complain and make demands. I will never understand this way of thinking.

i love the peaceful Scottsh landscape that's why i love lighthouses too. i enjoy hearing your American accent. to me it sounds perfect and cool. i don't usually enjoy hearing Americans do a British accent in novels but i think you have found a way of blending both in a novel because both accents sound genuine.

Another great chilling horror story, thank you. I think your American accent is fine, equally it hadn't crossed my mind to think you shouldn't read a story where the main character is female. I just enjoy your work, and I enjoy listening to you read other people's tales, regardless of their (or your) gender. Maybe I'm just too simple a soul, I enjoy works of literature without trying to complicate things. I suppose if people find anything not to their liking they could just go and read a book themselves where they can use imaginary voices of both accent and gender to their heart's content.

Oh my dear Tony, as a female listener, READ WHATEVER YOU WANT! Inner-exchange of characterization & personality is part of EMPATHY & COMPASSION! This zAGE PC-ness has a brilliant idealism of IDENTITY; HOWEVER, they have NO CONNECTIVITY to a webbing of foundational sociology, psychology, LITERATURE, theater arts, cultural exchange & personalized expression- most of the judges are baiting for drama & looking for something outside themselves to criticize because they feel underwhelmed with themselves! As for whether it was a good American accent, what does that even mean? I was born in Massachusetts, raised in Montana, lived in Washington State and now live in Texas. I've also traveled a lot around the country. I've come across so many different accents. It sounded just fine to me. Keep up the good work. I thoroughly enjoy your stories.

There are a handful of short story readers online whom I think are outstanding and you are one of them. That's because you all meet my admittedly subjective criteria: Honoring the author by not trying to "outshine" the written words with too many gimmicks, sound effects, histrionic performances and full-blown character impersonations. In other words, I can watch a film for all that...The art form which you engage in is its own form and does not need to compete with any other. The men and women that I admire the most can easily slip from male to female protagonists as the literature demands. Impeccable diction, pacing, and proper tone in reading, to me, are the ingredients which I equate with superior narrators. By the way...great video quality and sound!
