Worth all the praise it gets. I’ve watched a lot of old films and this is definitely one of the best. 24 March 2024

Agreed, it's a true classic of the Film Noir genre, along with Scarlet Street, a personal favourite, thank you.

Outstanding movie! Another favorite, I think Casablanca and The Postman Always Rings Twice are the only two I've seen more times than this one. Thx Isabella!

@isabellamars Yes, when it's Fritz Lang you always know it's a good one. The trio in this one and others play well together. This one gets better each time I see it-Thx for another one!

It's the Dream Team. Thank you, Isabella. This was the most sensible and logical choice following on your previous posting of “Scarlet Street” with the dream trio of Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennet and Dan Dureya back in action together and in top form. Add the name of Raymond Massey and a few others into the equation and you have all the ingredients for a vintage noirish thriller that does not allow you to blink for a second. Be prepared for intrigue and suspense, once again, under the artistic direction of Fritz Lang - a genius in my opinion. The seamless plotline unfolds through expert cinematography capturing stunning scenes in alternating sequences of light and dark images, creating classic realism in true noir tradition. He or she who is not absorbed into this drama may well be dubbed a cardboard cut-out figure. The various points of view afford the viewer an all-knowing omnipotent power resembling the proverbial ‘fly-on-the wall’ as the intensity of the protagonist’s nerve- wracking emotions are put through the wringer. Robinson, as the tormented hero never fails to deliver regardless of the role he plays. He is Versatility personified. In essence, the film is a study of guilt and consciousness. The voices of both inner and external conscience abound with ironic barbs that prick and cut into the psyche at every turn. Could this be modernity’s version of an Everyman’s Morality tale? The answer in my little notebook is an emphatic yes. The build up to the exciting climax and the resolution is unexpected yet thoroughly satisfying. I have watched this film many times over. I never tire of it. Do not miss this. Isabella is always to be trusted: Quality Shows! “The Woman in the Window” represents one of the wonders of the 40s noir tradition (and justifiably too).

Thank you, Charlie, and my apologies for taking impressively long to respond to your in-depth review. Yes, this one was such an obvious pick that I couldn't resist. It is a great film, and stands up to repeated viewings, to which you attest. I can find nothing to criticize in this film, and as you imply, it's a more or less perfect representation of the Film Noir Genre. Thank you, Charlie, you have really supported my efforts from almost the start, I really appreciate it. Now there's just one thing, if only I could change that ending, I can't imagine anyone would mind losing four minutes...

@@isabellamars Yes, that ending, Isabella! Would have left views scratching their heads if the last few minutes were omitted ... There were many films in later years that followed that formula ... freezing things at the point of high climax, leaving it open-ended for interesting speculation and debate.

@@charliewest1221 It might not be a true Noir without the edit ⚫
