Were taught alot of such stories here in kenya some in school,at home by grandparrents,we have a worrior woman who fought for our independece shes called mekatilili wa menza
Nice reaction guys. I've been anticipating this movie ever since it was first announced so I'm excited that it'll be in theatres before we know it. About Black Wall Street: the limited TV series Watchmen starring Regina King features a scene referencing the destruction of that particular community. Y'all should definitely check it out, it's only 8 or 9 episodes long. It might be good to start with the Watchmen movie and then follow up with the show so any context won't be lost. Just a suggestion re: your audio - lots of echoing. Making that less so would be great and not distracting.
Hey! Thanks for the info! We actually started watching The Watchmen tv show series last year and Never finished it. Also haven’t seen the movie either so I guess we got some homework 😅 We will definitely go back and finish it up to check out that scene! Ps- we have been trying to fix that echoeing for a year now and the only way we can fix it is to edit it out 😩 Thanks for commenting tho. We may try again to fix this issue
I saw the scene, where a military biplane was dropping bombs on Tulsa, I thought that was bullshit for the sake of the drama, but everything portrayed in it is absolutely true. The photos of that time, if we we didn't know the difference, would have been something out of the Spanish Civil War, Chinese Civil War or conflict in the Balkans. But it was in A-meri-KKK-aa.
In the early 18th century, Kings of Dahomey (known today as Benin) became big players in the slave trade, waging a bitter war on their neighbours, resulting in the capture of 10,000, including another important slave trader, the King of Whydah. King Tegbesu made £250,000 a year selling people into slavery in 1750. King Gezo said in the 1840's he would do anything the British wanted him to do apart from giving up slave trade: "The slave trade is the ruling principle of my people. It is the source and the glory of their wealth…the mother lulls the child to sleep with notes of triumph over an enemy reduced to slavery…"
Dahomey’s fearless female warriors were called, the Mino. They had their own flag, insignia and marching band. When they seized an enemy, they decapitated him and hastened to brandish these severed heads as trophies and to scare the enemy away. “Win or die” was their adage. These terrible female fighters considered themselves braver and stronger than their male counterparts. As they passed, the population knelt down in recognition, gratitude and respect. The Mino were considered demi-goddesses. Nawi, the last amazon died in 1979 at the age of 100 after fighting French troops at the end of the 19th century
Only 1 season of Lovecraft Country, another season was unlikely since its was middle of Covid, Jonathan Majors had other film projects to shoot (Loki, The Harder They Fall) and Michael K Williams death.
It can take a while to get things made. This was pitched to Viola back in 2015, and Lupita Nyong'o was also attached back then. I'm guessing she dropped out because of other commitments. Then, things got stalled because of the pandemic. Viola is also a producer of the film.
The amazon's Dahomey (prononce Dahomé call today benin in africa) warriors are the real dora-milajé. fight against francophone invaders. Bonus black panther come from aniotas brotherhood from kongo.
Is Francophone the African word for French? Yes they came in and curve stomped with other tribe allies the Dahomey. It was well deserved as the Dahomey were the evil slave traders that sold other tribes into slavery to go pick cotton and to be slaves in other parts of the world. God bless the Francophone/ French the true heroes of history!
Somethings are worth fighting for I yet to see this epic film of the Dahomey Mino Warriors let’s not forget this ! Fierce an Fearless the Blade if Freedom ANTICIPATION!!!!!!!!!
The Dahomey Amazons or the Mino are the only verifiable class of female warriors in History. Its a mixed history they were taken from the tribes of empire as children under 12 years old, they had to be big girls as big as the boys in their village. It was considered an honor for your village to have a girl chosen but these young girls never saw their families again. they were trained from childhood to be one thing warriors. To serve as the empires special forces and to guard the king. They could not marry and the only man they could have children for was the king. Until after the British forced their disbanding . Their legacy is legendary however. The British forced their disbanding as part of the negotiations for peace with the Dahomey empire
They were weak, and they used modern weapons so the significance of them being women means nothing as a competent child can shoot and operate firearms so........
We're tired of movies about slave owners... got news for you, the Dahomey were the Slavers, they captured, enslaved and sacrificed their neighbouring tribes for centuries, long before the white man turned up to buy slaves from them. So it is still a film about slave owners. They were defending their way of life against the French and British. The French and British were trying to defend other African tribes from the constant Dahomey slave raids and stop the Slave trade.
The army was mixed 3000 male, 3000 female. They had guns and cannon. But they still got creamed by the French infantry. 450 or there abouts female warriors killed to 6 french.
What we haven't picked up about the reason we were enslaved is this. Why are blacks the ONLY ones claiming 400yrs? None of us know why that number we took. Read Psalms 83:4 and that's why we believe what white history taught us. God told Abraham about his descendants, please read Genesis 15:13. God picked us out of all people ever created by him, John 15:16. We are created to obey all of God's laws and commandments. We are separated by God from all creation, Deuteronomy 7:6. But we keep trying to fit in and be a part of everybody which God sees as our enemies. Amos 3:2 read please...how did God punish our people for disobedience for generations? Deuteronomy 28:68 and go up and read 15 all the way down to 67, it is in the history books the same suffering. USE "KJV ONLINE" FOR YOUR CONVIENCE.
Incoherant word salad. What makes Black so special ?The only reason blacks from Africa were enslaved is the same reason all other races were enslaved from the beginning of Human existence. The strong prey on the weak. Also slavery is still being practiced in Africa and India.
I know this isn't the main focus of the story but I'm wondering about that kiss we saw between one of the women and some white man - think it's genuine affection, her being naive, him tricking her, or him forcing her through threats if not through actions, we only saw it for a second so it could honestly go any of those four ways.
Like I mean they wouldn’t say it was based on true events if it wasn’t that would be false advertising and sooo many people would call the producers on there bs
It is a real story lived in the Dahomey (present Benin) a Western Africa Country ... These women were called the Amazons and they were part of the personal guard of the king
