I would exercise caution. This film should be viewed as an historically based action movie, not a historical one. Aside from Aesthetic and timeline inaccuracies, this film seems to misrepresents Dahomey {and perhaps Africa and its peoples as whole}. Dahomey did not fight against the Europeans for freedom from the slave trade, they fought for it. These female soldiers were also used for the purpose of capturing slaves from other African states, that were French protectorates. This is what provoked the French to make war upon them- in which the French was massively successful and lost relatively few soldiers. Dahomey also had very "problematic" practices aside from slavery. However, this film has merit. I think it does give a good opportunity for a deeper conversation on important issues, both past and present. For instance, why do we glorify one kind of so-called "oppressor" while demonizing others?

The Dora Milaje in Black Panther was based on these female warriors. They are called the Minos, of the Dahomey Kingdom.

During a battle with French soldiers at Adegon on 6 October during the second war, the bulk of the Amazon corps were wiped out in a matter of hours in hand-to-hand combat after the French engaged them with a bayonet charge.The Dahomey lost 86 regulars and 417 Dahomey Amazons, with nearly all of those deaths being inflicted by bayonets; the French lost 6 dead…(basically the french soldiers didn’t have to waste bullets when they slaughtered these "amazonians") Dahomey isnt different from others colonizers, but they were far from being a kingdom to be praised, so muh for their actions and their strength
