Bought their album for my 5 year old nephew, and loved the music and Mike Batt's voice so much, I taped it on my new Sony cassette recorder. I was 15 then, in 1974. I still have all my cassettes. Wobbling Merry Xmas one of my favourites. It's so danceable!
@James Hodson Same age as you on January 12th. The Wombles were great. I remember a local supermarket being opened by Wellington Womble. Queued for hours in freezing, wet weather. Happy times! 😊
Oh Boy, now I feel my age…! Just over 57.5 years and I remember the Wombles like it was yesterday. I used to love to watch their stories narrated by the late great Bernard Cribbins RIP. Madame Cholet was the only female in the original series, but my favourite was Orinoco, closely followed by Uncle Bulgaria. Fond memories! “Wow, I've done some time travelling without a Tardis:” 👍🕛☃🎄🎉🎵🎶🌟
Wasn't he great in Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 AD? I saw it again recently on Talking Pictures TV. It's a bit dated, but still scarier than I remembered!
Who could *not* like this song?! It’s the sort of gung-ho determined cheerfulness the world so desperately needs right now! Wombling Merry Christmas everybody! ☃️😀💕❄️🔔🎉🚌🎅🏻🧜🏻♀️
And now you have heard of the Wombles...are you listening again Christmas 2023? Doesn't matter if you are or not, Wombling Merry Christmas to you & yours. Happy New Year 2024, too.
Can we not get this to No 1 This Christmas? What a way to end this year, The Beatles and then The Wombles back at No 1.. Merry Christmas all you Wombles out there.....
Incredibly catchy tune from the golden age of pop !, Should be a regular on radio playlists. at Christmas. Unfortunately most radio stations have very narrow, repetitive playlists
It brings back happy memories of a great era when there was none of this feeling sorry for ourselves or greed. Shoppers bought what they needed or what they could afford. Lovely days never to return.
@@BABYWOLF--1966 Merry Christmas 2023 to you, too :0) & A Happy New Year 2024. May all your hopes & dreams come true, every day the whole year through.
MY nearly two grandson has been enjoying dancing on the bed to this song every evening before bedtime. Talked to his mum enthusiasticly about The Wombles and realising as she is thirty years old , this song was out around eighteen years before she was born and before her time . I was a member of the Mud fan club in my younger days, but this song deserved to be number one in the charts. Still great now, and does not seem that long ago that The Wombles were regulars on TV. Crikey nearly 50 years ago.
I remember being bought the entire Wombles Figurine Collection when I was a lad of 9 By my Mum !! This record will " Always Evoke Those Wonderful Childhood Memories " !!!! XXXX From Adrian Browne 1965
Born in 72. I love this song just sang it out loud again remembering the good times in the 70's and 80's here in the UK, wondering if Jedwood watched this ha ha merry christmas everyone
Possibly the most beautiful lyrics ever written ❤ The underground wombling scene really changed my life in the late 70s. I was such a mess until I started wombling. But all good things must pass 😔 Great Uncle Bulgaria embezzling profits from their first album on scotch eggs, Wellington consequently pursuing a solo career and the 7 year life expectancy of a Womble really stopped the band from achieving their full potential. Still the greatest Christmas song known to man... or Womble
One of the great Christmas records I think and brilliantly put together with the bass line and the saxophone solo sections. Think the Wombles will still be around long after Jedward have gone...
Best Xmas song ever, my daughter plays every year at Xmas Dawn. My daughter arrived from OZ 4th December we blasted Gatwick with the only Xmas tune to play, was fantastic!! ❤
The best band to have ever emerge from the underground of Wimbledon common. Merry Wombling Christmas everyone and remember to make use of things that you find, things that the everyday folk leave behind!! 😂😂😂👍
My boss grew up in the 70s & she loves this song @ Xmas!! We always put it on in the shop I work in & she sings along while working (it's a very catching tune tho!!!) Fun song for Xmas, the oldies are the best!! 🥳🎄🎁🥳🎄🎁🥳🎄🎁🥳🎄🎁🥳🎄🎁🥳
Absolutely wonderful to hear this classic from bygone years. Is it me, or is this the video that gave Simon Cowell the idea for BGT/AGT & X Factor. Just saying. Merry Christmas everyone. Have a wombling one.
Fifth and last of the Wombles' hits from 1974. It was the highest placed of the five, reaching no. 2 on the first week of January 1975. Mud kept them off the top.
I was a newborn! I'm glad that, at least my good-for-almost-nothing father had it on 7" & it was played EVERY Christmas. Glad too, as the oldest, that I've some nice Christmas memories. The youngest siblings have none. Thanks for the pop-facts, Monsieur David "Kid" Jensen! Wombling Merry Christmas to you & yours & A Happy New Year 2024.
Playing this today for my dad on anniversary of him leaving this earth i used to sing this to my mum and dad aged about 7 running round living room into kitchen back to living room aaaw happy times my parents thought i was daft as a brush they must have been in stitches at my womble xmas dance. Still one of my old time favourites is this song makes me happy ❤️
