They're remaking the original. I don't see what they can really improve on there and it's clear to me that they simply want to return the series to "former glory" with a show like this but I don't think they can do it with Aaron and that's fact. If they gave us post War Aang and gang, I actually wouldn't mind as much @@sosygmingmc5030
Toph is literally one of the most well written and original characters of all time. Edit: this comment has no business having this many likes. Who really cares?
Yeah, Korra was meh( as a character) The show in general( imo) Season 1- great Season 2 - meh Season 3- I didn't watch the whole thing Season 4- awesome
@@wakawakawakawaka8804 Season 1 was awful, season 2 was worse, except for the Wan story which is personally my favourite part in the whole Korra series. I never watched season 3 because 2 was so awful
I think it was supposed to be the "Boulder". I think it wouldve threw off the team dynamic, him being an adult and all. Its funner that they were all young and winging everything.
Alternative ember fire players I can see anything you see. Except I don't see like you can. I can feel the sonic waves just by stepping on the ground like this. 'dramatically steps' I got a pretty good look at you.
Thank you, Aaron Ehasz, for making the character of Toph more than just a cookie-cutter cliché "Big Jock Move Rock" stereotype and creating an amazing, strong female character.
I don’t know their faces, but those two clowns in this video are responsible for Legend of Korra- and that’s why it’s such garbage. I think Ehasz was the one responsible for making Avatar such a masterpiece. The way they talk about Toph in this video is pretty good evidence that they have no idea what makes toph such a good character.
Who Am I? I absolutely agree. TLoK is essentially fanfiction from the Ehasz’s writing, ironically. And that's what I consider it as, totally not canon. It's kind of like Game of Thrones after they caught up to the books and had to write the story themselves.Just leave the writing to people who can write.
@@whoami8434 I'm sorry but Dragon Prince on Netflix is even worse than Korra, i'm sure we can all agree that these four together can make some special secret sauce but apart they're pretty mediocre.
I dont know why people say this when it was a collobaration. no one "made the show" it was mike, bryan who created it and aaron who participated in the writing (with stealing ideas from his wife). giancorlo was the director, and there was an animation choreography + sifu who helped the martial arts. ITS A COLLOBARTION. stop disrespecting the creators, just bc u like a writer's 2 ideas that you know about. what if mike and bryan came on record saying every idea you loved in ATLA was bc of them? would you like them more then? see! stop being ignorant. also i saw what aaron creates on his own and his show dragon prince SUCKS.
“I’m the greatest Earthbender in the world, and don’t you dunderheads forget that!” Words that stood true from the original series up to the Legend of Korra.
Toph is one of the best written characters ever in my opinion. She’s an extremely flat character and has almost no character ark (which stands out even more as ATLA is praised for amazing character arks). From the second she steps on screen in ATLA to when she is an old woman in TLOK she is the exact same person with the exact same attitude only showing vulnerability in a few episodes, and she manages to be a fan favorite and one of the most memorable characters from the show
@@motherofdemonshaha2100 and also being flat in a story isnt that bad if used correctly like toph...and i think it kinda represent her element which is earth which is grounded.
Yeah, but at the same time we do know that she *has* had her story ark, it just was before the timeline of ATLA. It was her learning to earthbend and be herself despite what people expect her to be. And that’s part of what makes it work.
That explains why Toph is played by a big muscyl guy in that one "filler" episode in season 3. edit: Stop trying to discuss if it is a filler episode or not the fucking creator themself said that it was a recap episode.

1:58 - "And Aaron Ehasz, our head writer, was just _adamant_ that Toph was a girl - and we had a lot of long discussions, and you know, Aaron made a very good argument for it, and I was admittedly resistant - and she came out to be one of my favorite characters." Once again, Ehasz saved the day... lol
Yeah it really says a lot about who really deserves the credit for Avatar: the Last Airbender when you hear one of the creators make a statement like that. The idea that someone halfway competent could hear a pitch for Toph being as she was presented in the show and not immediately be on board with it boggles my mind.
@@LordKnightcon Creative differences always happen in projects, especially during the devising stages where there's nothing concrete about a plan. It's only when someone sees a visual concept for an idea, most times that's the eye opener.
Plus the idea that Sokka is the father of Suyin and Lin (just look at their complexion, and Suyin got that rebellion from mom, yet her kids are out-of-box creative like Sokka. It still holds 😅
@@faith2756 exactly and she is like a walking breathing plot twist...in terms of you wouldn't be able to tell that she she is so mighty...toph is in my top 5 favorite characters in anything ever
Most of the young characters were actually played by young people. I think aang was also played by a teen at the time as well as sokka but I can't quite remember
Jessie Flower, Toph's Voice actress returned in "Legend of Korra" to voice Toph's youngest Daughter Suyin, so she voiced two generations of the Beifong family.
This is one of the only cartoons I've seen where they went authentic and used actual kids and teenagers for the voices. If you look at videos of the guys recording their lines, I don't know how old Zach Taylor (Aang) was at the time, but he was really young, and his voice and Katara's voice definitely grew deeper over time, where in season 1 they were kind of squeaky and high voices, so the kids who did the voices were growing up over time.
The voice actress for toph was born in 94 Avatar was released 2005 which means it was recorded 2004 That would make the voice actress 10 years old at the time 🤯 What a talented kid
TOph was such an amazing character because she wasnt too much for the group. SHe had no development arc, her major struggles were pretty much over her development happened so early in her life that by the time she was in the group she was just a situation. She wasnt conflicted about whats right and wrong she was jsut commentary and utility for the group she was the closest thing to an adult the team had.
@@juliandavis9711 No i loved toph but not as a character the way the other characters were used. strictly speaking toph as a writing tool is not a character, shes a situation literally. Where aang and katara and sokka all had paths to identify who they were and grow, toph never changed. She was just a strong pillar of a person for the team.
@@juliandavis9711 That was closure but it wasnt really development. Aang bercoming the avatar and learning all the elements, SOkka becoming a potent fighter all on his own with his swordmanship. THey all grew a lot as characters. Toph had a few bittersweet moments but she was already resigned to leaving home and being her own person.
@@airmasterparker2495 sure but ehasz is probably the one who made ATLA perfected. LOK always felt it was missing something that made it special, and once i realized ehasz wasnt in the end credits i instantly knew. LOK characters just suck, no charm to them at all.
I'm really glad they made Toph a girl, for so many reasons. One of them being that I really dislike "a bunch of dudes and one girl" groups in fiction - there's way too many of them, and it's often to the detriment of the female character's writing because it boxes her into the role of "the girl". I love Katara, and I'm glad she didn't have to be The One Girl In The Group for the entire series.
Same. I didn't like Avatar until Toph because Katara was the girl and I felt like I had to relate to her, even though I couldn't. And then Toph came along and I was like yeah that's more like it!
toph as a boy....kinda hard to see what it'd be like. But I'm glad that artist argued to make him a her, because toph is my Favorite character in the avatar series,
Aaron Ehasz doesn't get enough credit. The man is responsible for all of our favorite characters (Toph, Iroh) and the arguably best storytelling in TV history but Mike and Bryan get all the glory
Watching this made me realise that one of the things that makes the show SO good are the voice actors. Really unsung hero's. Especially Tophs. "Thanks for saving my life Toph. Oh no problem Sokka." 👌
Toph is one of the best characters of Avatar, pure badass and kudos to the creators/voice actress for doing a brilliant job on this tiny but mighty character!
Fun fact: Toph was supposed to be the earthbending guy in the opening scene of Avatar. Which was supposed to be Aang's earthbending teacher but ended up being Roku's. Cool right?
respect to the dude at the end who said he wasn’t about tophs male counterpart initially. love someone who can realize they were wrong and be appreciative of it
Toph was my favourite character since I was little. I even remember trying to earth bend in our garden. I just liked that blind but really strong girl standing like an absolute champ. She was unmovable like a rock
I am starting to think that the ember island players one episode not only showed us a recap but also showed us what their scrapbook from the series was. Like they had first decided toph to be a muscle guy but eventually they decided against it and then the ember island players showed toph was muscle jock guy. Katara was portrayed as a tearbending whiny girl in ember island players just like in their unaired pilot episode, but then decided to give her more stronger character. Truly, these writers are genius.
just finished watching the series, and after this, it makes sense in the episode of the play were she was played by a big muscle dude. She was excited and said "that's how I pictured myself". It was a nod to their original plan for the character.
Toph is a female character that I finally could be proud of as a girl. It's really rare in cartoons and anime to have awesome female characters. but I Avatar I must say, I think all of the females are fantastic!
Ive always loved this series cause they give us these strong independent girls that everyone can imagine themselves to be I remember me and my sis fighting on who gets to be katara and azula
Gotta love baby Michaela 😍🤣 sooo cute 💓 There's something out Michaela that feels or loos like Toph not just the voice that I cant pinpoint even after all these years. Maybe the aura 💚
The muscly blind guy Toph might have been a good foil for Sokka, but with the little blind girl Toph we see Sokka accepting her as she is. He knows her strengths yet there is also a protective side like in the final episode where they took down the airships and Sokka covers Toph as debris is crashing down around them. I loved that moment.
The creators come off really vapid in this, it's concerning. Like we're so fortunate the head writer was there to put his foot down about Toph being a girl, I can't even begin to imagine what other ideas he nixed to make this show as amazing as it is.
If toph was a boy and a muscley one at that, I think I might cry. If toph was a silent skinny boy I would be okay with it though. Both sound Hot. I'm already crushing on toph though so she can't be a boy with the same tophy personality!
it's a continent, therefore, it's a national country specifically for earth benders, i think the same applies for the other elements, where you have the air nation called the air nomads, the water nation called the water tribe and you know the rest
APeterson95 My God, you're a complete idiot. From the Wiki: "The Air Nomads made up the smallest of the four nations in the world". So that's how the air nation is called, Air Nomads. Congratulations on being proven wrong twice in a row.
So glad they made Toph a girl. It's always nice to see powerful girls in cartoons that kick ass. Toph is a great addition to the group and her skills and one liners really make the show enjoyable.
