The Wonderful “Two Bits” Technique!!

Loved hearing about your Indonesia trip! It made me feel like I was there. The first quilt I ever made has a batik backing, I love it and now have a better understanding on the process, I love it more!

I decided to watch this video because of the "Two Bits" title. My grandpa used to refer to quarters as two bits. This pattern gives me ideas for several quilts especially tee shirt quilts for my son.

I enjoyed this video! I’ve never seen the grid flannel wall! Way back in 2016, as we returned from a 2 week holiday in Montana, I looked up shops participating in Row by Row. We had spent the night in Moses Lake. It was a longer drive than I had remembered, but loved your shop! I was a bit groggy from a sleepless night, but will return some day.

I’ve been putting off making a couple T-shirt quilts because I’m not crazy about the looks of a lot of them. This would be a great technique to use for a T-shirt quilt! I think I better get started soon!

This was one of the most informative quilting videos I have seen - and I’ve watched a lot of them. You taught a technique instead of just a pattern. I love watching pattern videos, but this opened up a whole new world for making quilts. At first I didn’t think the technique would be useful for me, but when you moved from the graphic (words) fabric and showed how to work with different size pieces, it clicked! You did an excellent job of explaining it and even while I was watching, I started thinking of several of my unfinished projects that I can finally get out and finish. Thank you so much!

I seem to buy a lot of panels for the grandkids and I always try to fit them into 6 inch or 4 inch sizing. Not always easy to do without losing some of the panel or trying to add borders. 2 inch sizing using strip sets is a great idea. I hate sewing lots of little pieces together but I can do strips. You have just solved all that for me. Thanks

I really love this technique! I have a couple of panels that have been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years. They're so beautiful but I've never done anything with them. I just pulled them off the shelf, and I'm now I have plans for them.

Would it be possible to put the blue fabric patch logo block maybe over Cindy’s left shoulder rather than in the lower corner . It blocked getting to see what she was doing on the work surface several times and I didn’t want to miss a thing Thanks.

I have had a t-shirt UFO for 10 years because I never liked how they were going together. This has given me the ideas I needed to make a "quilt" with t-shirts and my quilt blocks or filler blocks to set it in a much more eye pleasing layout. THANK YOU for rescuing me!

Cindy - re your 9.5" churn dash block - add a few inches wide strip of fabric to each of top and right side, then trim block back to 10.5" x 12.5" and it will work in your plan. I've done this for years! It's a super process - glad to see someone put it in print for others - but don't discard uneven sizes - add strips of fabric and voila! It now fits!!!!

Cindi, this is very helpful to all of us with a few panels, leftover blocks and just some big pieces of pretty fabric. I do NOT do scrap quilts because my mind takes too much time deciding what goes where, but I can see me making a mixed block with some panel pieces for a beautiful quilt. as long as it's comfort, then whose going to say it's not right. Right? Thanks again.

According to my dad a Two Bits = 22 Shell. + 3 bit = 25 ( a quarter) ...sadly Canada no longer has pennies 😩. .... Thanks Cindi for sharing your two bit quilt ideas.

I’ve watched your tutorials and just love how real you are. In the first part of the video, you had the two bits quilt from a panel. When designing your own quilt, how do you will in the gaps from one size square to another? Wider sashing?

For those blocks that aren’t the “right” size, you could add coping strips to make it slightly bigger and fit into the required “divisible by 2” size.

Just a hint... like a three second picture of the final result. Even if the result is another quilt, using the same design. Cindi the blocks turned out great, I never follow a size for my quilt blocks as I improvise a lot so this is another way I can get all to match in size. Oh and I love the music used in the background, can you please tell me what it is? 💙

To reduce the need to straighten up your tweaked edges, I highly recommend the “power cutting method” used and explained by Nancy at OnPoint TV & Quilting.
