On August 9, 2023, Emily and I set off on our Wonderland Trail adventure. We set out to Mt. Rainer with nothing but a hope that we would somehow secure a walk-up permit to one of America's most beautiful trails. With some luck and planning, we managed to do just that and began our 8-day journey on a trip we will never forget. On Day 1, we walked 12.8 miles (20.6 km) from Longmire to South Puyallup River, starting at 8:45am and ending around 4:30pm.

Emerald ridge truly is breathtaking; excellent photography and cinematography. Great shots of Tahoma Glacier. I was quite impressed by you actually filming on the bridge as the standard thing I’ve seen on many Wonderland videos is that the phone goes away when you’re on the bridge. So your comments about the sketchiness of the bridge are definitely what others have felt as well. And it reminds me of something one of my engineering professors told the class many years ago, that even if a structure is structurally sound and has plenty of strength for the load it’s carrying, if it’s sagging or moving that in most cases is considered a design failure. While it may have been different for our ancestors, for most of us 21st century folks, we want rigid structures with very limited (if any movement). Swaying and bobbing isn’t really our thing. Thanks again for the beautiful video and for your enthusiasm and wonder!
