Watched this every Friday. It was my favourite day of the week. Always wanted a picket fence; a spotty dog and a Mrs Scrubbit. I never had a picket fence or a dog and I became Mrs Scrubbit!

I'm 1956 vintage and feel exactly the same way as you. Kids were allowed to be kids then and not constantly micro managed by their parents as they are today. Such a pity.

I remember breaking out in floods of tears when they sang the "Spotty Dog" song. The words went something like "Poor little spotty dog all on his own / / All alone without even a bone / ". At primary school we all walked around like spotty dog, legs and arms totally out of control and stupid great grins on our faces :-)

Where's Dobbin? The bovine interest must've come later..... "Oi feel you there, Dobbin", said Sam. That music caught me unawares. I'd forgotten how I sat on mother's knee, 65 years ago, to watch, waiting for the old valve TV to heat up, then that laconic melody.... nowhere is it played as meditatively as here. I think I lost my composure hearing it again as an ingrained memory.

There was an episode of "The Woodentops" where there was a song about poor Spotty Dog without a bone. Used to have me in tears as a kid. The words were something like: Everyone: "Poor little Spotty Dog all on his own" Spotty Dog; "Oh oh oh" Everyone "All alone without even a bone" Spotty Dog; "Oh oh oh" BBC woman - "Pooooor Spotty Dog" I think that episode of Watch WIth Mother hurt me so much that I shall be seeking compensation from the BBC....................... When these programmes went out, everybody did! Mothers would leave their babies outside shops in their prams safe in the knowledge that they'd still be there 5, 10 or even 30 minutes later. Seems incredible now but all of us babies from the sixties are living proof of happier days. In that respect, anyway
