Grief is a universal human experience, but one that we often avoid discussing. This can result in confusion and misconceptions taking hold and making the process even more difficult than it already is. In this video we consider the first of the four main tasks of mourning as discussed by William Worden in his excellent book "Grief Counselling and Grief Therapy." This is to accept the reality of the loss.

Thank you. I've never experienced any of the more dramatic things you mention, but this made me think of my recent experience coming to terms with the reality of a loss. This past Christmas was the first one since my stepfather died. I spent it with my mom. When I went to put my things in the guest room I saw his picture on the wall and it was like I realized for the first time that he wasn't going to be there.
