The Works - Tony Wilson interviews Ian Brown pt1. The interview itself is already on RU-vid, but I figured it was still worth uploading the whole programme for which it was filmed. Enjoy. See my other videos for part 2 of this programme.
Yeah they should make a movie about him, they could get a multiple BAFTA award winning actor to play him, someone like Steve Coogan for example. They could call it something like, I dunno 24 Hour Party People.
Without the record player to put the records on there’s no music. Tony is the record player feel myself filling up I’ve lived in Manchester nearly 50 years and this band made the run down area worth walking about again ... Walkman shit headphones orange sponges size of car tyres and flares to fit your shoplifting in lol miss the freedom
@@stuartralph2212 no, it was a film about factory records and most of what was associated with the company, ie, the clubs, the bands, the band members and the people surrounding the record label. If you are being sarcastic in your comment and you knew this then I apologise for stating the obvious, if you wasn’t then you should pay more attention to what you’re watching and take in all the information given to you via the film and process it a bit better, this would give you a better understanding about the film
In America, 1989, I heard "I wanna be adored" on "college radio" while at work. I was 18 years old and it stopped me in my tracks. If I was high I think I would have jumped thru a window. Still a great band.
@@Surv1ve_Thrive no music can top the feeling of being locked in a bedroom to go cold turkey, with just a window to escape. That's how you jump through a window with style
Tony Wilson was a visionary and a hero. Fair play. Credit due. The Roses though.... on that other side of midnight show. If you could bottle that.... its just obvious their time had come... they look and sound incredible. They knew it. So different. So ready. Its effortless, not forced or contrived. There is no media machine driving it. It had to happen. Glorious.
like that he said "i dont want to form another band cos ill never get another band as good as this" what a legend i met him and got ians autograph in 2004 and ive fucking lost it.. FML :(
@Neil Hodge really Neil and how many songs did he compose, sing or produce? It's a bit like saying without Brian Epstein there would have been no Beatles.
My thumbs up for Tony Wilson so sincere and caring about the musical art form he loved so much and the way it could shape dreams of youth that he had to pretend to be a wanker. RIP Mr Madchester.
Tony Wilson hated the roses when they were trying to get a break ! They had to play outside Manchester couldn’t get a gig - props to Wilson to admitting he was wrong
@Tom Prince even more ironic when you think of all the bands Factory signed (Revenge for example) which were atrocious - and the ones he did sign were milked of all their worth in order to bankroll his loss-making night club !
I have listened to this talismanic figure for 30 years. He is the absolute last word,as far as i am concerned. Ian Brown is the mountain top to which all true sherpas aspire #timeless #secondtonone #forgeteverythingandremember.
My girlfriend and I went on the Friday actually, which we had tickets for... and it was amazing. But yeah, on the Saturday we returned to the park and sat on a hill with a view of half the stage and one of the two big screens... I did hear Liam dedicate it to Brownie. Cheers.
Tony Wilson was a loose cannon himself and an absolute northern hero. It's only "loose cannons" that push the boundaries. We love you, Tone. RIP Mr Manchester. Recently visited his grave in Manchester where Martin Hannett is also buried to pay my respects.
Tony on his deathbed according to what hooky said that Tony totally regreted not signing The Smiths and The Stone Roses. Gotta say though I really enjoy Ian Browns solo stuff!
I've got a mate who said I went back to the studio with Ian Brown and we was making tunes and smoking blunts and we was like yeh right yer dick course you did. He just took the shit and 5 month later he said oh I got those pics done from that night of me and Ian that night in the studio and when we saw them we was like fuck lol - I can send proof as well as I still have a copy of the best pic.
Ian Brown is such an interesting character, very talented and charismatic but without being big headed. I have been listening to a lot of his stuff recently. F.E.A.R remains one of the best songs of the last 20 years. Stellify and First World Problems being my other faves. As a fellow Pisces I think he is complex and brutally honest yet remains true to himself. Top bloke!
I met him at an Audioweb gig in Liverpool Uni in the mid 90's. He was approachable and spent a good half hour in our company. There were only about 30 people at the gig and Ian was one of them. Yes, First World Problems is a fine tune.
Apparently his voice issues were due to Squire’s amps. That must be it. Funny how other singers in bands with more than one guitarist don’t really struggle ….
But shouldn't you thank Freddy Talbot? We all liked Fred. He turned on the Southport Christmas lights, one yearz in the early nineties. Very funny weatherman... har har.
not sure about influential, more influencED. you can see the smiths in there and morrisey’s on stage persona. the idea of bringing acid house into mainstream with a band? hmm we already had that with sgt pepper. using dance rhythms in rock? well we already had that with the likes of new order and depeche mode. the attitude and message? we had that with the jam and pistols good band deffo but not sure the ott lauding as the most influential band of recent years is justified.
Yes. He was also covered in the same series, both parts of that episode are in my other videos. Pt1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LhAvotfRACw.html
Shaun Clutt very true he's got a manc/scouse mix that slight laziness but sharpness of word type of tone .I'm Warrington and notice it in quite a few locals
ye so whts ur point its still cringy when ppl from warrington try and talk like liam gallagher same as when lads from widnes try talk like theyre from toxteth wasnt the legendary pete postlethwaite a warrington lad? he never put on a faux manc/scouse accent
2024 & Ian Brown still The Man, the real deal in a world of fakery, Respect to our Northern Hero the likes of which you won't see again, BossMan Brownie ✌🙏😎
*An interesting time capsule. England/UK touted Stones Roses as the messiahs and yet they made hardly an impression elsewhere. The States are a MASSIVE market and constant, dogged touring is the only way to establish yourself even as a NAME. The UK is a little pond in comparison with a weekly chart show to boost your profile. The statistics are worlds apart and show in the recognition of any band. MTV sure helps in a bands dissemination, but touring is the key. Personally, I think The Stones Roses believed they really were the Second Coming. Hubris was their downfall. They even had the song 'I Am The Resurrection' to highlight what they thought of themselves (and it was hardly to be taken ironically). Pride does come before the fall, after all and fall they most certainly did*
