It's insane just how much S&S truly improved on X2. X2 on its own was already an amazing feat from Arrow Dynamics, and despite Arrow Dynamics being bankrupt because of the ride costing almost $50 million back then, I think S&S really went out with a bang with improving the Arrow version. The fact that this ride didn't just make slight improvements, but massive improvements on the overall ride experience blows my mind. Alan Schilke really outdid himself when he designed X2, but even more so with Eejanaika. And regards to the operations, I'd say that this is expected because of the difference in culture in Japan compared to that of North America. Japanese people are very kind and patient, so I would say that the way they operate the rides makes absolute sense. It's just a difference in the culture and how Japan works, which is expected. And the fact that they are safe really shows their commitment to good ride operation, and that's what I admire. So yes, the operations may seem slow to us here, but in reality, it's 100% expected and acceptable, at least when you see it from a cultural point of view.

I remember reading way back when, at the "height" of the Coaster Wars, Alan and the Six Flags guy were in "the" meeting. He said he wanted a truly signature ride, Alan didn't have anything that excited him. Then he remembered an idea he stashed in his desk based off the Zipper...and the rest, as they say, is history.

I visited Fuji-Q alone on a solo trip to Japan and heavily abused Eejanaika's single rider line. I got like 3 or 4 rides in in an hour, with the ride ops looking more and more surprised every time I came back, one of them even called me crazy at some point. The ride truly is insane tho, the sheer intensity and the way this made me uncontrollably laugh the whole way through was addicting, I must've rode it at least 10 times that day. Beats X2 to be my favourite coaster by a long shot too. EDIT: posted this before I heard you talking about the laughter too. Feel the exact same way, I don't think there's any other coaster that has had that effect on me.

I've been to theme parks all over the world in the US, Europe, China & Asia-Pacific. I've ridden the biggest, fastest and meanest around, and conquered them all. But no other coaster has even come *close* to matching the mind-bending intensity of Eejanaika. It's the only rollercoaster that left me literally incapable of comprehending what happened from the insanity of the ride experience! It's a shame such a unique and world-class ride can only be found in 2 places on the planet, because it deserves more love!

Strangely enough, the thing I remember most about that first drop is how little it actually registers. Like, you go on most hypercoasters with colossal drops like Millennium Force or El Toro and your stomach heaves from the angle of the dive. But on Eejanaika, I weirdly didn't even feel the drop, which made the experience of the seat rotating about as I dived 200ft straight down even more insane!

I've been on both X2 (5-6 times) and eejanaika (3 times). Eejanaika is hands down a much better ride. It's not even close. I don't like going on X2 because it is so rough and hurts my head. I only ride it when other people in my party want to ride it and i always regret it. I went on eejanaika two times in a row and then went back on it the next day and it was night and day difference between the two rides. So smooth. Such a wonderful experience. Probably one of my favorite coasters of all time. One thing that was a little weird/unexpected is you have to take off your shoes before riding eejanaika.

I rode the Eejanaika in 2021 not knowing how crazy it was. It was a fairly rainy day and we entered the park just minutes after it opened so there was basically no waiting time, plus it was one of the first coasters we rode... I remember that I was terrifyed, my neck hurt a little, still it was a great experience. Not one of my favourite coasters though
@NealXie-ee8gz
@NealXie-ee8gz Месяц назад
I've ridden Dinoconda and Eejanaika but not X2 and as intense as Eejanaika was, Dinoconda was on a whole different level. Because there is one more car on Dinoconda's train, the first drop is even more insane, and the first raven turn is also more compact than Eejanaika's so the pacing is better. The overbank also has crazy laterals, unlike Eejanaika, where it is kind of dull compared with the rest of the ride. However, the last fly to lie into the brake run is not as intense on Dinoconda and the brake run does not tilt you forwards, but overall, I still rank Dinoconda higher than Eejanaika.
@HumpbackWhalen
@HumpbackWhalen Год назад
Marathoned Eeijanaika this fall and it was awesome! They changed the color scheme because the city asked them for more muted colors to not distract from Fujisan itself. Also, they have a small new old-school Japan themed town section with food and other attractions on the pathway leading to the entrance, so it’s actually pretty nice coming up to the start of the line.

Definitely agree on how crazy this ride is. I remember riding X2 for the first time and thinking how crazy it was and not knowing what happened. Then Eejanaika amplified that beyond expectations. S&S *seriously* needs to build another one of these! With some of the advancements since then, I’m sure they could make it pretty smooth nowadays! I think part of the reason the first ones were rough is the rails that spin the seats are jerky, which could definitely be fixed now!

The industry should build a statue of Alan Schilke to honor his genius and greatness....Humble, innovative, adventurous, honest, loyal, determined, these are the words I've heard and read that people use to describe Mr. Schilke. I honestly feel he should have a statue of himself at every park that has one of his greatest creations, they have statues for great basketball players, baseball players, and these guys are also still alive, so I don't think I'm being too outrageous. If it can be done for athletes why can't it be done for one of the world's greatest engineers and designers? Js

My first ride of Eejanaika had my friend and me in the front car. I knew almost nothing of the ride going in, and that first drop was one of the greatest coaster experiences of my life, along with the rest of that first ride. Easily my favorite coaster. I must have been lucky when I was at the park, as Eejanaika not only had the shortest line of any ride at the park, but the average wait time in line was 5-7 minutes. We rode it 3x as much as any other ride in the park that day.
@Nicklmeyer
@Nicklmeyer Год назад
The element's called a "full-full" because you do a full 180-degree rotation (flip) and a full 180-degree roll (track inversion). Similarly, the "half-half" element is only a half rotation and a half roll.

Great review! I've ridden X2 close to 200 times as SFMM was my home park for a while. Initially Twisted Colossus was my favorite ride but over time X2 overtook it. Admittingly the second inversion and turn around are the two dead spots on the ride. Eejanaika really seems to fix these dead spots. I think Eejanaika would easily be my favorite ride at Fuji Q, and it is high on the bucket list.

For those who are unfamiliar, a block zone is a section of ride that only one train may occupy. At the end of a block zone is a method to stop the train in case the block zone ahead is still occupied. This is the safety system that prevents roller coaster trains from colliding with one another.

Nice video, Ryan. My dad used to always describe X/X2 as feeling like a carefully choregraphed car accident. Eejanaika feels like being a rag doll in an industrial dryer. I do prefer the first raven turn on X2, though- it feels like you're rocketing up- better feeling of flying than any B&M (other than Flying Dinosaur). X2 tends to be a better ride when it's hot out, though, from my experience. Have fun!

We rode Eejanaika five years ago - it was so painful being slammed around like that. It was the first time I ever thought "I'm getting too old for roller coasters." I was 38. I found something really funny about the surreal field of empty shoes left behind (and stressful. Someone had stolen one of my shoes at a hot spring earlier in the trip, and it was my last pair, lol). Takabisha is my absolute favorite roller coaster hands down - that beautiful, quiet moment when you wait for the drop is wonderful. Fujiyama was a delight if a little traditional, and Dododonpa was over way too quickly. We got to ride each exactly once before the weather closed everything down. The park staff said that was common, so definitely buy the line skip pass

As I was staying in an Inn within walking distance, I got there very early before the people from Tokio arrived, right when the park opened. Still waited around 20mins or so. After the ride while I was trying to reconstitute my soul back into my body on a nearby bench I counted maybe 3 cars in half an hour. The track and elevator were empty 9/10ts of the time, so they were only running one train at a time. While I was there, there was also only one boarding area with the red footmarks on the ground so maybe one train operation is the new standard.

I think I had to of been around 14 years old or something riding with my two other friends who chose to sit with each other so I had to experience it alone. Pulling out of the station and climbing into the lift was one of my most terrorizing moments ever. My two friends were in the row behind and I could hear them PRAYING that they'd be okay and that only made it worse LOL and coupled with the onboard music that sealed the deal. That drop really is one of the most unique experiences you can have on a roller coaster, maybe THE most unique. I think my mind kind of went blank and I'm pretty sure I went into total fight or flight mode. The drop was definitely the scariest part of the ride and after that I wasn't as scared for the rest of the layout but I was still somewhat holding on to that feeling of trying not to die hahaha. Absolutely legendary ride just wish it wasn't as rough lmao.

New to this channel and this is a deliriously geeky breakdown of this 2-minute ride -- but surprisingly engaging and easy to understand for someone not as familiar with all the terminology.

I rode this 4 times yesterday, both in front and back of the train at least once, I came to the park thinking how do people think this ride is so good, as soon as we flipped on that drop, I immediately knew why, all I can do is just hysterically laugh at what on earth I’m experiencing. Every single element on that ride tried to rip you apart either from insane positive gs or very strong negative gs, it got to the point where I left the park with bruises on my shoulders from the negative gs this ride gave me. Note that this ride is padded with like 3 inches of memory foam so I don’t even know how. On top of all that, the roll that comes after the first raven turn is probably the strongest airtime moment I have ever experienced. Yes I have ridden magnum, iron gwazi, and a bunch of other airtime machines but this ride left everybody in the dust. It is my 2nd favorite ride I have ever done behind velocicoaster, it is just that good. Also one thing that appears to have changed in this ride is that they now ask you to remove your shoes and put it inside a locker instead of the pens. Finally, the dispatches for this ride rather slow, are filled with energy, when they give you a safety briefing they have a little chant and almost dance that helps teach you the safety of the ride though I did not understand it as I did not speak Japanese, still a cool sight though.

“You can really feel them bouncing up and down during the rides high speed pullouts or shaking back and forth while rotating”!!!! And "The ride is so insane, if it were any longer it would probably be way too much"!!!! Are we still talking about Eejanaika or El Toro Ryans School of Pickup Lines???

Loved x2, Dinoconda was increible, going to eejanaika in 2025, dont know how eejanaika and dinoconda differ… to me these 4d are the greatest coasters ever, they are massive tho, the tracks, supports, the trains… they are just another level of engineering… i hope they keep them alive for long

Having gone on X/X2 maybe 7-8 times over the years since its original unveiling I always thought it would be the future of rollercoasters and wondered why other 4d coasters hadn't been developed, considered how weirdly disorienting they are. It must be cost/maintenance. Its cool to see this concept taken to the next level.

Interesting to see the changes since my visit in 2012. I wonder how the new trains affect the ride. It's good to hear that they've added the extra pens for getting riders ready, because they didn't have them then, making loading EXTREMELY slow (well over 10 minutes per dispatch!), especially with how strict they were with NO loose articles. They made me get off and go back to the shelf to put a KLEENEX on it! Also, it sounds like they've improved operations, since the ops were super slow back then. My three waits averaged over 2.5 hours each, partially due to the many extended breakdowns! But it was worth it for the awesome ride! It also didn't help that I made the mistake of going straight from the bus to Takabisha to try to beat some people to the queue But all of the cut the line passes for Eejanaika were sold out by then! (Luckily, was able to get them for Takabisha, Fujiyama and the awesome Haunted Hospital!) Do they still play the Eejanaika chant/song in the queue? After over 7 hours in the queue, it was stuck in my head for months after!

In martial arts, it is traditional to bow to your sensei as a sign of submission, which is probably why the seats tilt forward on the brake run, you are bowing as a sign of submission to Eejanaika.

two ride elements that could make the 4D coaster even more insane: 1. Take a inside vertical loop, going in backwards, do an extra front flip at the top to add onto the front flip on the loop. 2. Remove the sync between the seat rotation and the track rotation in a zero-g roll. Either flip upside down before the seats flip, or have the track do 360 degrees of rotation and the seats do 720 degrees.

Great video! I thought I knew these 2 coasters in and out, but you mentioned a couple things I hadn't thought of. I loved hearing my opinion about preferring the first drop and raven turn on X2 called out here, whether you intended to or not. One other minor thing X2 does do better than Eejanaika is not making constant announcements about the fact if you are not on the ride by park closing time, you won't get to ride, even though you're in line. I've found most of my line waits on Eijienika to be very tense, especially since I lost $40 once because the ride paused due to weather right as I got up to the station, and after waiting nervously for over an hour, I had to forfeit my ride pass and fast pass because I had to catch a bus. It's also much easier to get the seat you want on X2, you just ask the seat assigner or choose it yourself, whereas on Eejanaika your seat is determined by the order you pass through the metal detector, and it's very difficult to request a row change due to the language and cultural differences. The boarding experience on Eejanaika can make you feel like a schoolchild that must be on their best behavior. On slow days at Magic Mountain, I have amazing memories of riding X2 front row 5+ consecutive times because there was no line, including even a few rides during a huge rain downpour, and chumming it up with the ride operators, whereas I don't feel like that is something that would ever happen on Eejanaika.

I went to Eejanaika last summer, unaware of the fact that the seats rotate until halfway through the line. Being a roller coaster enthusiast, I haven't been afraid of roller coasters in over 10 years until I found out about the ride's rotating seats. (I get nervous about rides that spin too much.) I was trying so hard not to have a full-blown anxiety attack over the possibility of passing out or getting nausea from rotating seats, even with the staff assuring me that it'll be okay. As the ride went through its frist drop, I realized that it actually wasn't as dizzying as I thought it would be, but it was still so intense because of the ride's elements and the safety instructional videos while waiting in line. One of the most important things about riding safely was to keep the back straight and the knees bent the whole time, but there was this one turn that was so intense, my legs flailed for a moment and I had to swallow my fears completely so I can keep my legs in the correct position during the momentum. By the time the ride was over, my Mom saw that I had a frazzled and scared look on my face, especially when she knows very well that I'm not afraid of roller coasters. So it pretty much gave her an idea how just how insane Eejanaika really was and why she couldn't ride it apart from a bad knee and the ride's maximum age limit. All in all, despite Eejanaika making me afraid of roller coasters for the first time in many years, it truly was unique and awesome, and the view of Mt. Fuji on that clear sunny day at the time was the cherry on top. I highly recommend Eejanaika for anyone who visits Fuji-Q Highland.

@@markylon She's in her mid-50's. But yeah, that caught us by utter surprise while waiting in line. Can't remember if the max age limit is 54 or 64, but either way, those signs and safety instructional videos made the wait a lot more nerve-wracking (that, and the carts flying by every few minutes).

When X first opened there was none of that jerky motion when the seats rotated. It was perfectly smooth. Even a couple years after it was still smooth, and it’s still my favorite ride of all time in that form. I don’t know if the track was damaged over time or if the lighter S&s trains are causing the jerking motion 🍆 Unfortunately it’s not nearly as good in its current form. Imagine riding Eejanaika with the original heavy trains!

Bro!! I am a roller coaster enthusiast, but only recently started traveling outside of the country. I went to Japan 2019 I stayed in Tokyo, but took a trip to Mount Fuji by bus. The bus stopped at Fuji q and I had no idea what it was!!! I have already made it a priority to go back there because it looked so sick all those roller coasters up in the mountains And after watching this video, it will be the first thing I do when I return to Japan at the end of the year. ❤

I have been on the back row of X2 multiple times but not Eejanaika. From everything I know it's like X2 but better again. Looks great, would ride it for sure. That back seat is the insane spot, clearly, like it is on X2. I went on X when brand new and then X2 years later when I went to California again. These are great coasters! But I now prefer stuff like Untamed/Steel vengeance etc.

Part of what makes X2 awesome is the soundtrack and it has sadly been missing for a few years. First they went down to only 1 train with sound (and we would time it so we only rode that train) and now neither train plays sound. Hopefully it will be fixed before you are able to ride it again.
