Tom is the ultimate business man, I love his old style ethos especially not to judge a book by it's cover. I learned that many years ago, and his outlook on not being a sales person is spot on, if someone doesn't like your product whatever you say isn't gonna buy it! Don't push, ask questions and relax.

I loved what he said I’m not a salesman working in a gym including my self and many other PT’s sales pitch and sealing a deal is hard mainly because of self belief. Having that product for instance The package you have in hand for clients is important that in its self will help to gain a client. Great take ways from this 😊

I come from a council estate, working class background, never earned a great salary so could only afford to buy second hand normal cars. I can't stand car salesmen, not one of them has sold me a car either, I've done my own research beforehand and made up my own mind. Most don't even know the answer to my questions anyhow, ask about valve adjustment for example, they haven't a clue.

What's all this 'World's Richest Car Dealer' malarkey Rob?..... Hartley is no where near that. I live and work in Dubai, there are dealers here with x10 the sales of Hartley's little concern...& then some. Hyper/Supercars you'll never see anywhere else being bought and sold daily in their dozens. I like Carl, Tom I can give or take, but giving them the 'World's Richest' title on several of your videos is just ridiculous and just shows a lack of basic research - and maths.

It’s likely click bait title which I dislike. But you may be jumping to conclusions and where is your own research. This guy has been trading for 50 years, UK has 20x the population of Dubai.

@@chasedwar2 Not sure you're clued up on the 'state' of the Middle East, if you've even visited any one of the countries there. Dubai dealers don't just sell to Dubai haha. Here in Dubai the dealers serve customers from all over the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar just to mention a few... so it means nothing that the 'UK has 20x the population of Dubai'. I've seen Hartley's stock for years, I monitor prices from many dealers, being in the market regularly - and indeed just keeping tabs on the values of my own collection. Their stock changes very little week by week, I'm sure a few sales are made 'under the counter' that never reach their stock list, as with most dealers, either way there is no way they can match the sheer volume being sold in Dubai - dealers here sell 15, 20, 30 cars a day - the market is crazy 3,4,500,00 dollar cars. Urus's are like Ubers here. Common as muck.

hes not a peoples person. If he dont get his own way he cries his eyes out. Ive had dealings with this guy hes rude nosey arrogant and one deal i decided 87k wasnt enough for the 355gtb as was selling next minute im getting faxes from his lawyers offensive and threatening trying me force to sell the car to him. His lawyers had not got a leg to stand on but he instruted them to try intimidate me over a few quid. Im friends with people far far richer than Tommy boy and they are nice people. Trust me he is a kxxb

Thanks Rob for this amazing podcast with Tom Hartley. Really as per him a Very Old School Entrepreneur. He very calculative about Money but still humble. Golden nuggets from Tom that " Experience is far better than Research and Training( R&T) as R&T only gives an idea"👏 . Also he said that some people who make money fast are not Dreamers in the long run, he surely knows from his 50 yrs of experience😎. And the 3.9 M Bugatti Car Sale, essence of the story " Never judge a Book by its Cover" & take every enquiry seriously🎯; that's what is Old School. Thanks again Rob for this valuable content. I haven’t watched this interview yet but will, however, I have seen him interviewed before and he has said that he doesn’t have a passion for cars themselves and basically just looks at them as dollar signs, which is probably better for business, but I prefer people who have a strong passion for what they are doing beyond just making money. A perfect example of this would be his oldest son, who is the opposite and extremely passionate about the automobiles he stocks…..perhaps this differing business mentality is why he left the family business and went off on his own. Also, on a side note…..I’m fairly certain he is not the wealthiest car dealership owner in the world as the title states. You have guys like Roger Penske and such that own dozens and dozens of car dealerships all over the world. Either way, I’m looking forward to hearing what Tom has to say

There are rare people who give generously so much, Usually in few words, wisdom and they ask for absolutely nothing in return, those people give you that gut feeling everything is going to be ok, Tom Hartley is one of those rare people. Best thing about the past is it’s always over & we don’t have to wait for life to stop being hard to begin being happy. Moving on and doing well. 🙏 Excuse me please editing in this piece I hope some of you will enjoy. Tom reminded me of a man many years ago teaching me electronics on vehicles. Jim was one of Leyland electrical geniuses. One morning during morning tea break I asked Jim, “do yo have a degree in electrical science” Jim looked at me with a sort of surprised, almost confused expression and calmly answered “I certainly do not, thanks be to God”. And now I understand. Old school can never or will never be beaten.

Love Toms approach to business. I have the same mentality,and temperament. Thought I would have made a good living when I was younger. Don’t know where it all went wrong . But have some very talented kids and grand kids who are doing well. I,m trying to make a career in art due to phisical injuries done in my past careers.I’ve not got any debts luckily everything is paid off but as I,m not claiming any benefits my pension has been badly effected. And may run out before I officially retire.

The most expensive car 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rosa was supposedly sold here, owners of them include Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Peter Sachs grandson of Goldman Sachs bank, and Jon Shirley of microsoft. Wonder if one of those people bought the top seller at this garage?

When Tom Hartley said he is not a salesman, I think what he meant was, he is not a BS, false flattery, sell you something you don't want or need person. He answers your questions with plain facts and then you make your decision from there. No hard sell.

Why doesn’t he tell the truth? Got his son on tv, was on loads of kids tv shows at the time, saying he was the youngest car salesman and drove some of the cars. Has lived off the back of it ever since. That is how people got to know his name. Before that he was just like all the others in the second hand business of selling cars. An he used the fact he got his son on tv to make money by selling cars. He is just another car’s salesman, that buys and sells cars. The only difference is mugs go to him to buy second hand cars that have been over priced. He states got £100m in stock? The cars are worth nothing if no one buys them at the over price that he states.

Taking kids out of school is always wrong: they have their whole life to work and and you can’t miss education especially at that age. I think it’s a good wrong message to spread.

No, he will not make in a month what Hartley does in a year, but he possibly does make more, although that is not guaranteed. I agree that Hartley is not the richest car dealer though, that is something that nobody really knows. I have worked in the sector for a very long time and you'd be surprised at who has what and who doesn't!

That's a coincidence. I was at a car event earlier, and it wasn't a hyped event at all but one car stood out. A 1961 Ferrari which through some research was one sold by Tom Hartley, and is worth well over €10,000,000.
