Much like communism. Sounds right on paper, but in practice...... eeeh maybe start over. Cause you need someone willing to give without getting. But gain beats reasoning. Making a business is difficult but the definition of freedom varies. Even if you own the company you're still limited by legal rights and the same right as anyone else. And all that money comes at a price, most often freedom itself. Due to how much you must manage it. The problem is when you don't. If you have lots of spare time while running a business then what is it you're actually doing. And also those who own a business, gain power, and power corrupts. You can say it isn't about money, but you make a business most of the time to make money, that's all. Disney was all about money, Ford was all about money and today it's always money. The entire capitalistic system is about gain, why else do you think it's so shitty now? If oil companies didn't get to have influence and lobbyists then countries wouldn't have the US breathing down their necks for natural resources, the electric car would've been further developed when cars were first created. The message is a good one, but in practice it's either warped or not true.

@terrythompson7535

Not arrogance, confidence. Not "brutal", pragmatist. A lot of people ignore the ugliness of the world, but the modern day warrior must face it head on. The horrors of the world cannot be ignored, they must be fought..with real solutions. I read his book, and it gave me an entire new outlook on the world, and on him. He is an admirable person. Another thing I should point out to people is that being nice, isn't being kind. If you want to feed your child nothing but ice cream in order to be nice, you are not being kind to the child. If a person prioritizes the safeguarding of feelings, over the pursuit of personal development, they will find it is impossible to compete and the world will call them "loser". That happened to me. Don't be nice, be kind. It's called "Tough love".

Awesome interview! Some people think Kevin is hard-nosed, but they're just shooting the messenger. You have to be blunt with people in order for them to get the message. Especially people who are beginning to venture into an area they're unfamiliar with like running a business. There are so many distractions/hope/ aspirations, they won't get the message otherwise. My father worked for wages briefly in his youth also and then went on to start and run 12 businesses, some of them during the Depression. He had to stay nimble and change when things didn't work out. He was quite successful in the end. So this interview resonates a lot with me.

Can anyone please elaborate and explain the cat food and Technology analogy I do not understand how the two are related I do not understand how the cat food lesson translated into the business strategy for the software company

I think what Kevin is saying is that if you have 1-2 basic ingredients that power your product or service, you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Imagine if automobile OEMs made the same base model of car but you could create a new "skin" that snapped on top of that model and turned it into looking like a sports car...SUV...sedan...etc. You'd save a ton of money not having to re-tool and reproduce so many different kinds of vehicles. Kevin used the engine that powered his educational software, re-skinned it to have multiple different looks and was able to go to market much faster and cheaper than competitors.

@@BehindtheBrand thank you do you know how he did so? In the educational software example I would imagine that each subject would require vastly different types of content are you suggesting that for example you would have the same layout for each subject but swap out the content or something along those lines? Could you provide an example of how that might look

Wow! Kevin you are great. Thank you! Everything you say is true. There are alot of advice about making money is all about making money and buying into someone idea, someones business but you are not in control of your self, your life. Most time success is from 0 success is time, success is constanrly learning, listening, risk, exsperimenting, team playing, rebond, success is science and engineering. Being in control, attitude. Success is YOU creation of yahova GOD!!!!!!!

@15:38 “I wanted to thank her and help her out”. What he really meant to say is he wanted to show her he had enough money to pay her to scrub the gum off HIS shoes and buy 100 ice cream stores, her, her husband, her children and grandchildren 1000 times over.

Joe Baller perhaps ageing can explain his inconsistency. However he sounds genuine and kind, but realistic. I found his talk inspiring, informative and interesting.

It was something that mentally affected him. I was an employee of a company with a great career path, 6 figure salary. Change of management, senior didn't like me, I had to settle for a resignation package with a reference. I applied for jobs but after 2 weeks decided I'd had enough of being a pawn, it mentally affected me that someone had that power over me.

Joe Baller I'm pretty sure he meant his philosophy. Everyone, including him, requires money flow to build, hence the job. It's the vision and mindset that differentiated him.
