Slim and quicker was mainly his kid frame, but time passes to everyone. Not only does he now have that balkan build with crazy strong legs that makes his post game unstoppable and allows him to mock defenses with plain deceleration; he also went full cerebral, reading and dissecting defenses to capitalize on weaknesses all around him, be it by getting easy buckets or distributing dimes -- which makes his game always entertaining to watch and even deadlier, especially when teammates do their jobs properly. Having said that, I didn't see one single play that he now seems unable to execute -- every now and then he shows glimpses of his more explosive self; thing is he barely needs to because of how his game has evolved. Luka has shown basketball is much more of a mind game than an athletic endeavor and tbh, I'm glad he did. Watching him play just never gets old.
If he turns that fat into muscle, he can still use his weight to his benefit and actually be really athletic. I used to have similar body build to Luka's, I turned 5kg of fat into muscle, athletic ability sky rocketed. He can easily turn 7-9kg of fat into muscle.
The extra weight makes him a way bigger threat in the post... I mean come on he's a 6'7" point-guard that bullies anyone else besides centers in the paint... and the centers he toys around with with his skill and IQ... He just plays smart now, yeah he was more explosive back then but that way of playing was way more tiring, prone to injury and less efficient in the long run...
I agree. But I do have to admit I miss him being able to slam the ball easily. He can still dunk and everything and when he goes for it he is a lot harder to stop in the air since its more like a locomotive taking off. But it takes way more effort and landings are riskier because he has to absorb the impact of more weight. And he is not nearly fat or anything now, he is in great shape currently he is just going for a bit more bulk and muscle volume, which I think is smart since players are so physical with him and he has to absorb so much contact.
@@JRMason-ri4ii ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OQfGr_q8TZE.html Looks to me like he gained a little bit in cheeks. It's not that I'm mad at him if he gains a couple of kg, but I just noticed it. He's unguardable anyway.
There is no need to be bigger and slower as he is. He has the build to be both bigger and faster. I feel like he brings the energy down of the game with his slower style of play rn. You can see how the dynamic changes when they bring in an energy guy like Lively. You don't have to be quick all the time, but it's getting to a point where it's lackluster.
I think that people consistently underestimate how fast he actually is. He may not sprint as fast as some other NBA players, but he can accelerate and decelerate at will and is very agile for his size.
His current body gives an unpredictable pace when he plays. You just don't know how well he will play cause he doesn't look quick and agile for his size but you know he can outplay you and outsmart you.
Yes I agree Luka is more dominant and unstoppable at a heavier weight. However, I don't even remember seeing one of these plays ever 😂😂 So thanks for these highlights 😂
I remember his first game. He had some plays where you could tell he had game but he was mostly passive. But by his second game, you knew he was special.
In one of the moves the commentator says "And here's the up and under for three from Luka" as if it's a normal thing that everyone can do. Only Luka can make the extraordinary looks ordinary.
They way Luka is right now he is the best. He still has 90% of the speed he had as a rookie but he's 1000% stronger. He can bully basically any player. Also people need to stop acting like Luka is fat right now. He weighed quite a bit more last year but this season he came prepared.
If you put this video 2X Luka is actually explosive. Luka has a great ability to switch gears, footwork is excellent and no wasted movements. Like a great boxer
There gonna be a part 2 right lol. Cause yall missing that buzzer beater in the corner vs the blazers and this almost game winning poster dunk he had vs the nuggets
Since when was Luka ever considered fast? I never heard anybody say anything even remotely close, and what would it matter anyhow with the way he's playing¿
If aint broke, dont fix!! Hes using his size for advantage. Him being said "SLOW", is not a weakness. He just know how to set phase to trick opponents.
When people talk about how slim you used to be when you're just 24 years old, you have a weight problem. All this BS about "extra weight for the post" is stupid, justifying your idol. That extra weight is supposed to be muscle, which is much more effective moving people in the post, and the lack of it shows Luka is doing all this without working too hard. I find this both extremely impressive and troublesome in terms of how Luka will look at 30.
honestly, half of those highlights are not super-impressive for being explosive compared to typical NBA highlights for that. I think where Luka really lost out is on the defensive end. His added weight makes him easy to blow by for opposing guards.
@@blotterdowney8075 i am not missing the point (the point was obvious). I am just suggesting there wasn't much of explosiveness to begin with. Luka has always been a finesse/skills player like Harden rather than a slasher/dunker like Ja or Ant. When you are at that 1% in terms of basketball IQ and skills, you can get fat and still be impactful.
I think he is playing with more maturity now. Now he’s the playmaker and scorer which requires him to take down defenses more than in his rookie year which makes him play slower and more controlled . Apparently Luka is supposed to be in the best shape of his career.
These are the highlights from 18-19, his rookie season. But a better example for his explosiveness would be the next season, 19-20. Physically it was the best version of Luka imo. He got a lot stronger compared to his rookie self but also was way quicker than he’s now. That’s why Clippers couldn’t stay in front of him in the bubble for ex. Now he’s a LOT better as a shooter (38% from 3pt range now vs 31% then), but he also can’t shake the defenders as he once could. Actually his number of shots at the rim used to be like 2x of what it is now which is not a very good sign.
lol , your comment is delusional , Luka is playing better than ever . Also his defense improved. I watched every Luka's game till today and can tell you your comment is way off, he's unguardablle now more than ever. Also the teams prepare for him much better now than in the bubble as his legacy and legend grows...
@@snezakovicno, if anything you are delusional. I also watch games and there are multiple statistical arguments to back my point. Luka is better now but because he’s a better shooter and has more experience, not because he’s slower lol
Luka should exchange the fat he gained for muscle so he can keep the strength he gained from outting on weight while also gaining back the athleticism he lost which he had when he was slim. He could axtually jump up and block shots when he was slim. He cant do that now. He even struggles to dunk now. When he was slim he wasnt struggling to dunk at all.
Lol watch some games and find out if Luka's role is to "dunk" and then you'll know how many blocks he has these last few games alone, what more this season. what a casual comment
@@gotworc For a professional elite player he is fat and don't compare him to a muscular body of Lebron, ho see shirtless photos on google and you will see he is nothing similar to LBJ.
