The composers of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon/Ryu Ga Gotoku/whatever ya wanna call it franchise are legitimately some of the most talented people in the video game industry. Don't agree with me? WELL that's okay you're allowed to have your own opinion but I hope you like the video anyway.
For full (AKA as good as I can get) discographies of the different composers that were mentioned (and some that weren't) in this video you can check out their playlists here: www.youtube.co...
Or alternatively you can check the homepage on my channel where I have the shelf "Yakuza Composer Discographies" which contain all of the playlists there :)
Most of my information was sourced from memory... but the memories were created from checking the composers' and games' pages from VGMdb.

Merry whatever you do on the 25th :) So excited to finally put out this video after working on it for like 2 weeks straight for someone to just randomly comment "umm well actually 50% of your information is wrong because there exists an interview with Hidenori Shoji from 2020 that no one's ever seen before and has been password locked in a safe in my house ever since the interview happened that details the full list of composers and song names from Kiwami 2, Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise and The Kaito Files as well as every single uncredited and unofficially released song from every single game in the history of the franchise and only today will I choose not to share this information with you but I will just tell you that you're wrong yadda yadda" to which I will then be angry about for years to come and write an angry comment in a future video exaggerating your comment to make people think that I am writing the comment based off of a real experience even though I was lying from the very beginning and this never occurred but I'm just saying it as a joke.

When you mentioned how Dig in your Heels became your all time favourite song, I couldn’t help but give out a loud YES. Ever since I heard Unwavering Belief, I pretty much listened to it every single day on constant repeat. The climax in the second phase is just heavenly (the dramatic part where the vocals kick in and the music just has a very tragic tone to it). When I first heard Dig in, I was doing the boss fight with the “no healing items” and 0 damage upgrades challenge. While I got my teeth kicked in multiple times in a row, each time the music had a very unique feeling to it. Didn’t ever really get it with any of the other Yakuza OSTs. It’s really great to see people go crazy over this track, as it’s just phenomenal.

It is quite amazing how Aoki got the right atmosphere with almost every yakuza game, and respected one of the core essence of the games, and that was portraying Japan at that time, but in music you can definitely see the trends and new things that were frequently used in melodies. The industrial electro beats from the early 2000s till the mid 2000s, the cheerfull japanese songs that began exploding in popularity in the 2010s or the jazz funky feel of the 80s. She got older but her skill in composing seems immaculate and perfectly conveys the times when the games released.

@Hezzadude12 Год назад
Man the edit at the end with t u s k was sick, but you're definitely right that a lot of the feel of the games is conveyed really well through such great music. I don't think that the final boss of Yakuza 5 is bad by any means, it's a really good boss fight, but hearing that awesome guitar and drum intro just adds SO MUCH to the fight. It's the same with the Higashi fight from Judgment - it's a great fight with an awesome intro, but it just dials it up to 11 with that song playing along side it. Xenoblade 3 was robbed by the way... I can't believe that game didn't crush everyone. It's like 2019 all over again with Kingdom Hearts 3 not winning best OST (even though Death Stranding does have some great songs, but that's off topic).

You bring a good point about the situation affecting the song. I like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but the ost plays it too safe and tries to replicate John Williams' score. It felt rather jarring and in the end none of it stood out for me. I can't remember a single track from that game except for the Mongolian throat singing song in the intro. Meanwhile back when I first played Yakuza 0, I had completed the first chapter and I'm already searching youtube for 'song that plays when you're beating up kuzes guys in chapter one'. Tusk gave me an adrenaline rush that players should feel as they're going through that mission. It's a song that gives a feeling of '100 guys between you and the exit' and it never fails.

Xenoblade 3 didn't get soundtrack of the year because TGA are utterly obsessed with "dark, mature, M-rated games". It's not just soundtrack of the year, it's almost every single category. Even games I genuinely loved that won some of the categories over the years weren't choices I remotely agreed with, like when Monster Hunter World won freaking "Best RPG". I've played that game for thousands of hours and IT'S NOT A FREAKING RPG, NOR WAS IT THE BEST ONE RELEASED THAT YEAR. And Nintendo gets completely shafted nearly every single year for absolutely no reason, even losing the categories that it pretty much objectively is the only main choice for (like platformer, family game, party game, etc.), and I still to this day have absolutely NO clue how Smash Ultimate didn't win GotY when it was like, not only the best selling, but most talked about AND most played game of the year pretty much period. And almost no one had anything negative to say about it. Basically, watch gaming award shows for the announcements, not for who wins what award. Because they're somehow more biased than the oscars.

And them the culmination with that Akutsu fight and just seeing how desperate the situation is just to hear that heavy ass techno theme just hit so hard for me. I was literally introduced to this series through it's soundtrack. It ended up to where my playlist was pretty much the entire soundtrack. It was either War Maker from 7 or the Viper from Lost judgement that really kicked it off for me, and I'm so glad I played this series, but I probably never would have if the soundtrack was bad or even just average. I was played it because I was amazed by the soundtrack. (I'm very new to the series)

I don't know if it's official, but most people seem to call the US Daigo boss track simply "Daigo". A bit basic but you know.

dude I discovered your channel last year with the how (insert rgg game) could've been better series, and I only just recently subbed, I'm genuinely surprised to see how little subs you have in comparison to your content quality, you'll deadass make it big one day, really love your content as you cover my favorite topics from my favorite series in such a smooth way, keep it up man.

It's linked in the cards of the video but it was from a live stream RGG Studio did where they sang some karaoke. Here's another link though ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F6AKHPGG3-g.html

Great video! I will say the Yakuza games definitely really got me to appreciate all of their composers, especially Hidenori Shoji, who once I played Yakuza 0 for the first time, I immediately knew I already knew somehow. I couldn't get the familiarity of some of his songs out of my head and looked it up and discovered he was one of the main composers on F-Zero GX, which had (up until I started playing RGG games) some of my favorite gaming songs already. Shoji's an absolute GOAT composer at Sega, and they don't pay that man nearly enough, no matter how much he's actually paid.

To this day, the 3 part epic that is Assassination of the Bodhisattva is probably my favorite musical composition in all of video games if not music in general.

Fantastic video. You always consistently make such incredible videos and this is no different, especially that portion with Yakuza 0's Tusk. Have a good one this Christmas!

The yakuza soundtrack is one of the best of all time not just in video games but music in general, in fact I would listen to a lot of the yakuza songs while working on my martial arts story (which is also heavily inspired by yakuza) since it really fits the vibe that I want in my story 😄
