Currently using this tip on the golf course, shot 3 over on front 9. Best score I've had in ten years. Consistently smashing every shot. UPDATE: Ended up shooting 5 over for the day. This video was 🔥 for me. Thanks James!
Your position at the top of the back swing is massively improved! That drill really works for you! I’ve actually been doing the same drill with my daughter every day since the video came out because she has the same issue. It’s already making a huge difference for her as well. Feel like my daughter got a free lesson from David Leadbetter because of you! Thanks James!
Johnny Miller has been using that drill for years and so have I and actually been teaching my wife the same drill to work on her takeaway. Love the videos James so keep up the good work...
I've been using this technique for the last 3 months on the course after watching Moe Norman videos starting backswing 18 inches back. My game has never been this consistent. I loved seeing David Leadbetter promoting this drill and his "straight away" backswing alignment tool. Keep the videos coming.
Love this….off to the range immediately to try this out! Old enough to remember learning golf with my Dad with Faldo and Leadbetters video (VHS!) ….no school like the old school!
I was shown a similar drill where you lift the clubhead vertically from address using wrists only and then swing from there. It produced very good contact for me.
About 10 years ago Ryan Moore actually played PGA Tour events using this type of a swing when he was working on his take away. He started the swing exactly where David said to start. I think Suzanne Peterson also used this on the golf course many years ago. Love the content.
You’re thinking the a-swing. Lydia Ko tried and it and went backwards. She has since then went back her original coach and away from a gimmicky salesman.
@@seadonkey6913 😐🤨really don’t know what your on about especially because this may not work for everyone. But it will work for most of us it’s not like it’s not a proven method.
@@seadonkey6913 i can see you have no explanation or experience teaching people how to improve at sports or in biomechanics so please tell me again how it’s snake oil I’m listening. Remember you are accusing a man of being a fraud.
@@right8630 when you’re that dumb no explanation will help. You have a broke back swing and looked for help with a salesman. You got had. You probably experimented with stack and tilt.
I have the same issues with going inside. I will be saving and watching this video over and over. As soon as ski season is over here and the clubs come out, this will be on the practice routine for sure
I’ve started doing this takeaway drill again because of you. A pro had me do and I got away from it, thinking my problem had been cured. A recent video taken of my swing told me otherwise. Thanks James - really great videos!
I just received my “Straight Away” and looking forward to my practice sessions. My golf journey is being impacted by David Leadbetter, as well. Good luck! 🍀
Reminds me of the Faldo preset drill but that was with shaft parallel to toe and ball line. Worked great for me but could never replicate in full swing as the preset was actually presetting impact position! Your drill seems that it would be easier to pass through that position on the way back and therefore able to incorporate into full swing. Very interesting.
James, my coach, Jim Rue, was a tour player in the 80s/90s on the Latin and Euro tour. his coach was David Ledbetter, and he has passed this knowledge down to his students. blew my mind the 1st time he had me turn and put the club back down! I have not tried this drill on the course, but I will be as soon as we can get out! please do this more on your videos, this is GOLD for us amateurs!!! Keep up the good work!
I watched the Ledbetter lesson and didn't think much of it. Yesterday I went to Golftec for the first time. This lesson addressed exactly what Ledbetter showed you! My instructor wants the sole of the club and my spine aligned at the exact point you are starting at. I was opening the face just as you had been resulting in thins and toe strikes. Today I will be on the range and then on the course for 18 holes. Scary stuff.
with this swing the rest of your swing looks way better, more connected, and powerful. I tend to take it back too much to the inside but when I am smart enough to think about taking it back the way Leadbetter showed you(something I discovered by accident) I hit it much better as well. For me the problem is to remember to do it like you learned in the first video. Also glad Leadbetter validated what I "thought" was a good move for me. Now to just remember it when hitting. Good job!
I tried this yesterday on a simulator after seeing your session and the Bubbie Golf video with David Ledbetter. I didn't stop the backswing part way, but did the move away he described. I've been playing for 30 years and currently on a 2.6 index. I have never struck the ball so consistently pure in a practice session. I finished by hitting 5 drivers. They literally finished on top of each other at 320 yards dead center. I'm a long hitter so hitting 320+ is common for me but having 5 in a row finishing within a few feet like that has never happened to me.
That backswing plane is the best I’ve seen you perform - I’ve struggled with that first two feet of the swing for years and am going to try this today - great job James
I love this, went to the range last night and (even though I'm a 16 HCP) this works. Initially thinned a couple whilst overthinking stuff but then it just clicked. Always been a Leadbetter fan as he teaches simple ideas. Well done, James and looking forward to a good year for you. Chris is in trouble in 2023.
Swing looks good. I watched that video and tried out some of those tips and I’m trying to remember to keep my left arm on my chest more and it does work as he said I try not to have too many thoughts in my head when swinging. lol. Thanks for the great videos
I am an older golfer (76) and RU-vid golf video crazy. Years ago I used the A swing with good results. Even bought the book. Lately, been going to Dr. Kwon and getting the lower body more involved in the swing. But had problems getting the clubface squared into impact, even though was hitting the ball much further, but with a fade. Today, I tried to integrate the A swing into the Kwon methodology and had great success. Started hitting long (for me) solid slight draws with the driver and the mid irons. Short irons were better too. Maybe something to this.
just recently started using David Leadbetters technic with me irons and it has really made a huge difference. His technic is simple which I like but also I feel like Im not guessing on how I should start my back swing.
So smooth and effortless, will try this as already have a shortened backswing due to a bad back, so this could be perfect. As for chipping- no problems swing as is - change speed to change ball distance.
Strangely enough on my last golf lesson, I was doing a warm up session of stopping inthe backspin to check where the club face was then returning to address. I did that twice each swing and my strikes were excellent. I definitely got so much out of your video today getting that position perfect on takeaway just cements a great golf shot.
Your swing looks great now. Keeping your hands out in front, instead of going round your body, is making so much difference to how your swing looks as well. You've got to stick at this one now. Game changer!
After watching your lesson and you playing the 4 holes, I thought I'd give it a go. I played 18 holes, it went really well I drove all the fairways and even my topped irons went straight. I will keep practicing.
Nice! I'm so glad it's working for you! I have to do the complete opposite. Concentrating on my trail forearm up on the take away (not the backswing lol). I'm not rolling it over but starting the forearm up towards the sky. I've swung my whole life the with hitting down so much I was starting to sh*nk too many shots. Forearm up and puring almost every shot. Swing your swing is what Arnie would say. Good luck everyone!
I was trying to stop an over swing so I played golf for a whole month getting to the top of my back swing, stopping, and then hitting from that position. It’s helped me so much. In my opinion, to get the confidence of it working you’ve got to try these things on the course not just at the range.
Really cool seeing this. I’m a former scratch player that aiming to reach that level again after 10 years if absence. Now during winter training I do have some issues with my takeaway and I’m definitely going to try this advice on my next training day.
I’m so enjoying this. I noticed when I’m a striking it well that’s my take away but never thought how to replicate it. Love this video and I’m gonna get to practicing it. Cheers 🍻 buddy!!! Your the best
it is crazy how this technique puts you in the right position for all aspects, it has helped every aspect of my game i'm now 9 iron in at 135 meters were i was 7 iron and driver is 235 meters from 210 meters and so bloody straight, i do have to set my feet position facing more left for driver tho kept hooking at the start and lastly i'm not scared of my 3 wood it flies!!!. great video thanks for the content. Would love if you did a lesson with someone using driver using this technique i could do with the tips for 20 more meters. 😀
👏👏can hardly believe it great video - I’m working on exactly the same thing at the range I hit 3 from the end of “takeaway “ position and then 1 normal - been doing for a month or so as was like you James pulling club inside - made such a difference and not one lost ball in 5 rounds strike and ball fight improved enormously - haven’t dared hit shots on the course yet 😂 but when video swing much more on plane now
