Great fricking review! Love the realistic approach! Not slamming it, not giving it the full endorsement based on the companies claim! Nice man! Thanks!
In a true survival situation, you don't mess around and tinker with trivia, you just get the damn job done! For a fire starter, in an emergency kit, this would be a winner in my book. It works, it will create a good fire that will start your main fire, and it will stand up to elements and abuse. Why wouldn't you want to keep 2 or 3 in a vehicle emergency kit!
Another awesome and inforative review. Looks like a good addition for a camp fire ... just have to know those limits. It is not exterme as the package says. yet looks handy. Thanks for all you. Pls keep up this work.
When they said waterproof i think they ment the top of the match, once you strike the match and the top is burning stick it in water then pull it out and it will start to burn again without striking it again. It will just poof into flame. Its pretty cool match, they make them in different sizes as well.
Thanks Luke, yes it has a place somewhere in a certain type of kit, but for me the deal breaker is the “striker” get that wet or damp and you could be up the proverbial creek without a paddle (if you are just relying on this product to light your fire. ) Regards Clive
Thanks for the extensive and honest review. These are tempting for me, but I think I'll stick with my cotton and vaseline fire starter for the weight and space (and cost) savings.
10 minutes can get a fire going in most weather conditions. I think they may have stretched the truth on their claims and took facts from perfect conditions but all in all I think it would be a great fire starter.
#? Could you use it for a fuel source for one of those fuel tablet stove, small Firebox, altoids' tin, or one of the other small stoves. At least to make a nice cup of Coffee ☕🔥
I am not sure I agree with your assessment. Your criticism seems to be that it is not wind and waterproof for the entirety of the item, but that's true of wind and waterproof matches of any size. What they do is offer an extended ignition area that doesn't go out with wind and can get started after being wet. That's exactly what this does, on steroids.
Yeah, he judge it, like if those were made to start a fire underwater, like if they said on the description, that these are Divers matches, to burn the whole Pacific Ocean down lol.. I mean he literally acted, like he was kind of disapointed, when these puppies, worked wonders holding a big fire. I can literally cook noodles with just the flame from one of these!!!
A great video I think it’s a good to keep with you for hard to start situations I’ve been there an wish I had something to get a fire started quick Thanks for sharing
What is the orange stuff and why isn't the entire match covered with it? That would make it waterproof. On the other hand it might burn to fast... Thanks for a great video btw :)
The smaller matches are good, and im sure these are too, but you can easily make your own with some fatwood and some candle wax, you can mold them however you like. I can make a ice cube size ones that do last 15 min, and burn so hot that it's pretty much impossible to blow out. There's tutorials out there.
I am likely an outsider voice here, but I would rather carry the traditional waterproof matches. You can get a bunch of them and like the tip of this product, you can't put it out even in a water dunk. And for the money, it is just better IMO.
Reminds me of a road flare ! LOL!!!... are they a good idea to have on hand!? Yeah a pack or so! I don’t see anyone who knows how to start a fire using them! Pretty cool though!
Hey Luke. Nice vdo review. Question unrelated. You use a clear UL ground cloth on some trips, do u remember where you found it or the product name or brand? Im trying to locate it.
Thing is ...why do you need a big match that burns for 15 mins (or 13 or whatever)? It only takes a minute to a few minutes to get a fire started, these just seem a waste once they go past that. Maybe something a quarter or even half the size might be efficient and a boost over regular storm proof matches...
A Bic is good and all but please get a Zippo. They're not strike anywhere matches for safety reasons. You definitely don't want one of those igniting accidentally in your pack or car.
same exact product..lights in rain and hurricane.comes with tender burns 10-15 min ....or say waterproof windproof.15 min.then no one buy it the second time?
If you get more than five minutes, it’s going to be good enough for 99% of most people’s needs, even in a disaster. As for strike-anywhere, that’s illegal in the US and that’s where they are made and marketed. You want Eddy lites, you have to cross the border.
Good review, but I'm going to give it a thumbs down. When it wouldn't catch with a lighter, that was a deal breaker. Believe I'll stick with the trioxane tabs and fat lighter. Keep up the good work. It's much appreciated.
Man, these never claimed, that they are diver's matches, to burn down the ocean! The work wonders as they are! Why acting like they disapoint you at some point? They are 100 times more effective than a common match, what more to ask??!!!!
Why not just call in some air support with napalm? Seriously now, I think that maybe a flare would do better if you were stuck with being the fire boy during a hurricane. Or, just bring some Coleman Fuel to start anything, including your eyebrows. I know that everyone loves birch bark, but my trick around here is pine cones.
