Hi I've got a set of mk2's that I've had for over 25 years and were second hand.. for some years these were used for over 10 hours a day every day of the week as I house shared with other dj's.. We treated them with high respect.. still use them a lot today.. have never had to change the leads there all still original.. Nothing has ever failed on them apart from the pitches which I've only had to change the once about 10 year's ago.. They are absolute bomb proof..

In 1983 I was introduced to & then used a pair of silver technic SL1200 MK2 I was in heaven using them while on the mix. What a superb deck & lasted without any faults which was amazing considering the amount of abuse i gave them. As the years went on I moved on to the black technic 1210 Mk2 I was still in heaven thrashing them in the clubs without fault. Other quality decks were on the market but the Technics were always at the top & could be found in every night club. They were just brilliant to use.

I have a pair of 1200MK2's I've had them for 27 years and I have never had any problems or had them serviced and everything still work. I use them everyday day and they look and play like they are brand new. I paid $750 for the pair in 1993.

I ve probably got one of the oldest Technics 1210 mk2s in the uk its 38 yrs old only had 2 pitches replaced and 1 motor replaced and never been serviced. but that will be my next job to get them serviced. great vid.

I'm a Technics owner of a record changer straight tone arm SL-D 500, I purchased it in 1986 to the present unfortunately I misplaced the umbrella spindle that holds the other records while the below plays it happened earlier in 2020. I'm trying to get a replacement for it as well as a another SL-D 500. There was another S curve model as well much like the one you have on the videos with the original tone arm shell. This is sensational. I love this video!👍

Great company, service is second to none, and it's Colchester - big up the Essex massive! Bought my 1200GLDs from a shop in the town when they first came out, can't remember which one, as a 30th own present. Got two Mk3ds & four Mk2s as well. You can never have enough, but this is fantastic!

I bought my two Sl1210s back in '95. Had them upgraded with high-end asymetric cables, gold plated RCA connectors and a 1mm2 ground cable. Also had the bearing ball removed at zero on the pitch fader, for precise tempo sync.

I’ve got a KAB modded and upgraded SL1200 M3D. Not a MK3D, but a M3D. I’ve got a pretty nice audiophile system, and my 1200 sounds phenomenal. I use it for the 1200’s original plan of audiophile use, but it was obviously figured out by DJ’s pretty quickly. As far as the new MK7’s, like you said, they seem kinda “plasticy”, as far as I can see. But, then again I haven’t actually tried one, but I feel my 1200 is much nicer. Great vid, man. Loved seeing all those 1200’s!

Great turntables used the 1200's back in the 80's at my first gig at a small club in Nottingham. Fond memories!!!

I've had quite a few different 1200s, but not that much! Looks like you're still missing the SL-1200MK4 with titanium tonearm and detachable cables. The MK4 was the best oldschool HiFi turntable I've ever had (I now have a modern SL-1200G). There's one mystery feature on the M5G decks though... Almost nobody knows about it. The "Tonearm Adjust knob" on the left side of the tonearm bracket... I've mixed with those but never managed to figure out what's that knob for except for pushing a spring loaded pin against the horizontal axis.

The M3D has antiskating up to 3 grams only while the MK5 goes up to 6 grams, has LED light and the tonearm has additional gradation printed under the counterweight.

Wow! I'm "Getting By" O.K. with an SL-1210Mk.2 (from 1995) ad an SL1210GAE (from 2021).

I own 10 SLS 3 ltds first gens, 2 mk5gs, 1x1200 made back in 1979, 2x1210, 2x1200 and restoring 120 mk1, all have original lids and headshells.

You didn't mention the most important difference between the Mk5g and earlier models ... the awful digital pitch. My M3d were probably the most stable of all, great decks.

I suspect Technics felt the pressure to bring out a DJ 1200 and they went cheap with the build quality. I have a pair of M3Ds and they are, IMO, the best of the Technics 1200s. I had a pair of the 1210 MKII, those were good but the 1210 M3Ds are great. Again, my opinion only. I do have the original Technics Headshells with Shure cartridges and styli. Going to try the Ortofon VNLs next. Great collection and very impressive that you have a brand new, never opened 1210 MKII.

I own two 1210 Mk7s and have been very satisfied so far. Since I absolutely wanted to have Technics again and the spare parts market for the Mk2 is getting worse, I decided to buy two new Mk7. Back then I unfortunately sold my Mk2 and was thrilled when the Mk7 was announced. Yes, the old Technics Mk2 felt a bit higher quality, but you shouldn't forget that the old technology had more weight (magnet, motor), etc. What many also forget is that until the Mk5 all turntables were very good, but not the M5g which has a terrible digital pitch ... There is currently no better turntable to buy that has a digital pitch that allows vinyl mixes as long as the Mk7. If you only use DVS, you can certainly switch to Reloop, Pioneer, etc. but for vinyl fans there are still only the old Technics or the new Mk7. I do not regret the purchase, because with the new Mk7 I can conjure up very precise and long vinyl mixes again :) With the handpin models it is not possible like Reloop, Pioneer etc. without constantly correcting the pitch. Maybe there will be a Mk8 again sometime? I am happy that Technics is building new turntables again :) with the Mk7 I have switched from digital back to analogue and I enjoy the fact that every record is a great pleasure :) I found my old love for music again and that's why the Mk7 has already found a place in my heart forever. Now only one Allen & Heath Xone 96 is missing to get the best out of the records, which will come next ;) Greetings from Germany :)

My two 1200 Mk2’s are now 12 years old, never been used as a DJ-tool (yes, I’m aware the DJ made the product immortal) and they are like new. They have Audio Technica (AT-440MLa) carts on their tone arms and they are not modified which would be, in my opinion, an insult really for those who developped the turntable. I must admit, I have tried some aftermarket stuff on a beaten up 1210 that I fully restored to its original specs only to find out these mods are only giving you minor improvements, if at all as a matter of fact. At the same time these mods will set you back quite an amount if you take into considderation that each and every part of the turntable was developped with one goal in mind: the highest possible fidelity be it at radio stations or at home. No, they did not have the dj in mind, the dj came in later. They adopted the product only because it was able to take all mistreatments and still deliver top notch sound, without compromises. That’s why owners of these turntables own quality that goes beyond everything in its price range and far above.

I thought I was going to see some tables, this doesn’t even look like garage… other than the fact that they have M5Gs which I’ve yet to get my hands on a new set

The Real sukcesor of the mk2 is the 1200 GR its not plastic bottom plate like mk7. There was also mk4 / mk5 / mk6 japan only model with titanium tonę arm, Led targetlight, separacje audiocables, and better damping performance from the bottom. Mk6 and the GR model is the Real King out there!

Its gone crazy - since mid march this year I have been servicing on average 20 or more turntables per week, and they still keep coming thick and fast. Over 200 turntables serviced within the last 3 months I have also had the Mk2 pitches re-manufactured and licensed to myself. Available on www.technics-service.co.uk parts shop. (I have the UK's largest stock of genuine Mk2 parts)
