Looks like an amazing bike, I like how lightweight it is despite having a big motor. BUT I don't get it. Is the unique thing with the motor that you can dial down the torque output? I mean that's essentially what you do when switching between power levels on any other motor. Power is the product of torque and rpm.
I think the average full power bike is closer to 25kg, maybe more, specially with this trend of 800Wh batteries. If (average) bikes were around 22kg I doubt we'd be having this whole trend for SL's...
I'm a retired airline pilot, so I'm tired of having to choose between an ebike and a fully restored P-51 Mustang! I just checked out the $6000 (U.S.) Elite 3. In a medium, it's 45 pounds, 11 ounces or 20.7 Kg. That's very reasonable! Nice and quiet, good app adjustability. This could be the one for me! Buy 2 and have enough left over for 2 range extenders. Honestly, this bike at $6k is way more impressive than an 18.8Kg bike no one can afford!
Giant are unique in being able to make value bikes that work so well AND pull out flagship models like this. I had the Trance Advanced 0 with full XTR back in the day and it was about as good as you could get too.
What did they pull, can you explain please? To me it looks like they just have changable torque limit? And maybe an ability to put a smaller battery as an option?
@@trkoo agree... Bosch Smart system can be reduced from 85nm down to next to nothing if you want to and also adjust the "launch control" sensitivity... not much new here other than light weight and still not a big battery system.
@@trkoo I'm lost too. I can use the RideControl app to change the assist levels for my '21 Trance X E+ so how is this different? The video was not at all clear for me.
FYI for everyone who currently owns a full fat Giant 2022 onwards, you can lower the torque output of those too (if you wanted too) this new range of bikes will be awesome!
The Orbea Rise (60nm torque) lets you choose from two 'profiles', each of which includes three power parameters (kinda complicated to describe). I use the full-power profile for trail riding with hills. For xcountry or rail trail stuff, the low-power profile lets me ride with minimal assist for extended range, but still gives me up to, in my setup, 42 nm if needed.
I’ve been riding an e-rode bike for the last 5 years- for health and age reasons. Currently riding a Specialized Turbo Creo, proceeded by an Orbea Gain and Giant Pro E. I’ve learned a lot and love riding my ebike. My suggestion is for you guys to start a Road and Gravel Ebike channel. I’ll bet it will be a hit! Thanks Charlie
£13K for the Advanced Elite 0... have a word with yourselves! It may be light, but I could buy a top-spec motorbike, insure it, and fuel for the year with change.
so your saying we should get rid of Ferrari, Lamborghini ? I could buy a Camaro, add bigger supercharger, tune it, and beat all the exotic cars. Why would I buy a Lambo then? Heck, why don't they just close the business, nobody wants a high end car.... Right? Wrong...
lol this is a bike and your talking about motorbike? can you ride a motorbike in a trail and jumping backwards and forward and do all the tricks that a bike can do? bro its like this video talking about staff that use for sport and you talking about staff use for service haha
When you (when I ) ride an e-bike, typically the motor power is only on part of the time when needed. Specialized thumb control allows power levels from 0-3 so you can turn it on and off while riding. Thus, battery life is many, many hours instead of what is published.
Definitely! The spec is insane and the weight is something we could only dreamed of a few years ago. It's great seeing what can be achieved with lightweight e-bikes! 👍
@@embn the technology going into them really is impressive and the more people pick up an ebike the greater the demand for these innovations. Who knows what these bikes are going to be like in the next 5 - 10 years
Ill be happy to continue to use my 18.5kg hard tail. At 700 British pounds out the door, can't go wrong. Yes it's rear hub motored, cheap Shimano components, restricted to a 7 speed (could go to an 8spd) but at 700 quid ... just gonna ride what I can afford. I love this channel and am a loyal viewer and subscriber but think a good share of us just can't afford a bike north of 700 pounds. I get it. Love the videos but wish you guys would do a true budget ebike episode with bike below that price point. Just saying. I guess for the most part, nobody thinks an ebike in that price range is worth a mention. I have watched the episode on budget ebikes but still think (imo) most of us can't afford what EMBN considers 'budget'. Just saying. Keep rolling. Great channel!!!!
I remember when a viewer complained to top gear that the programme wasn't representative of an average viewer, and they asked that they review normal cars for normal viewers! Oh how they scoffed! And laughed! 😂 I think they told him to buy parkers car guide. So maybe you're watching the wrong channel too 😮
I run my trance e+ 2 pro 29 with the higher/steeper but that is more due to my typical terrain (less chance for pedal strikes) and my other mtb are short travel (100mm) XC
my Orbea Rise has 85nm and it weighs 17 kilos with a fox 36, quad piston brakes the "RS" is BS, the logo fell of after a week, and i derestricted it fully the first day, yes the NM can also be reversed from 60 to 85. RS is just marketing, it's a EP 8 like any other
@@kingerz 15000, kilometers, not a problem, when u have a eMTB in europe,,u WANT to de restrict it ! 25kmh is just not enough anything else you don’t want me to do ? i restricted it to USA speed, i will sue them if they bring this up and i will win
Customizable personality… New thinking on adjustable torque, I like it! Is Giant hitting it out of the park with this one? Great presentation, looking forward to Neil and Blake’s comments. 👍
Hi Steve, love the video. But there's 3 fundamental questions every E bike rider or perspective E bike rider needs to know, which you guys omit frequently. 1st what is the total ride time during the test / making of video. 2nd What modes is the bike riden & what proportion of time while making the video. 3rd what percentage of battery was used. This goes for testing E bikes mountain, road or gravel. Thanks
I don’t understand why they don’t tell their stores when this will be available….. 10 days after launch, and the Giant stores have no idea on availability…..
I weigh more than you do. I am interested to see how the range does. If bringing along 2 or 3 range extenders or just having a larger battery is worth it? It looks pretty awesome though, I would hold off for elite mullet with shorter chainstays.
Yeah it's never as clear as two figures (weight & power) there's so much more that goes into making a bike great. Geometry probably being more important
Sorry but I disagree with Giant's claim: I have been riding a Rotwild R.X375 Ultra Full Power for 2 years now (Shimano EP8 85 Nm, wheels F+R 29", 150 mm F + 140 mm R, 360 Wh battery) with a weight of 18 Kg exactly, pedals+Garmin GPS Edge included!
@@flippy66 We are not speaking about the geometry of the price, we are speaking about "The world's Lightest Full Power EMTB", that's all and the R.X375 is on the tracks from 2021. Nevertheless, if you want to compare the price: in Belgium the first price is 10.000€ and the second 13.500€, a nice price indeed, but for what weight? nobody knows! Concerning the geometry: nothing very different, HTA Giant in high position 66.5°, the same for the Rotwild !
I have a jam2 drifter 2021 with an ep8 which does all this high or low power emtb. The only difference is it’s 20kg. How can this be ground breaking bike?
I think you get a lot more for your money with the entry level one of these bikes than the entry fuel EXE which looks like you need at least a tyre upgrade for a start.. I’ll hold out a bit longer to see this new giant bike in the flesh I think.
It’s a nice bike apart from the front end. But I don’t understand what’s different about the motor adjustability compared to my Levo or any other make. This seemed like a load of marketing guff to me, but maybe I’ve missed the point
So are we celebrating that Giant have finally matched the software of other EMTB's from 2019? All be it in 2023?? Other MY23 emtbs would be a hell of a lot lighter if they shaved nearly 50% of their battery capacity as well. Great job at hyping up a bike with 4yr old software tech. 👏👏 At least it looks great!
Come on bro, you're being goofy. First off giant has really good software, even on my older 2021 e bike.. second they didn't cut the battery capacity in half it's 35 percent (was 620 last year plus the bike is lighter so it's more efficient.) Third, the giant batteries have longer range than anyone I have ride with, I can ride 6 hrs and have half the battery left when other people with different brand bikes have to change batteries . This bike is a nice bike , other than live valve. I'm going to grab one of these and throw a coil shock and a zeb on the front
My mate has one. Let's just say they don't last long in the mountains. Maybe if you doing flat rides with not much elevation but then what's the point of having a ebike 🤷♂️
@@neilvan3779 ok well that kind of rules it out for me. Too expensive to only get 20km of serious assistance out of it. If they manage to double that distance I'd reconsider.
There's no way that bike, in that video is 18kg, put it on the scale, I dare you! ;) Maybe a version with a 200wh battery with light tires, narrow rims might make it to 18kg on the XS... Great to see continuing innovation and competition!
@@mikebillets9671 all models claimed weights can be found on Giant website by selecting the german language. The 2 is 20.4 Kg ,size M. The 3 weight is not available, as I guess this model isn't available for Germany market. The latter is the only version with alloy rear end that is carbon on 2 and up.
Nice development but I don't really buy that any emtb rider that has 85NM of motor power at their disposal is ever going to be interested in reducing this to anything lower....is like having 400BHP car engine and not wanting to ever drive it more than 15 mph on the freeway , ) I prefer my way lighter 16.5kg TREK Fuel Exe tbh.
not true. Are you comparing the wrong rotwild model intentionally to make the giant a winner? Rotwild has a similar model, this is RX 375. he is also 140 mm. RX 375 weighs about 18kg! Giant did the same thing that Rotwild did in 2021. so this bike is not unique. In 2021, the Rotwild was blowing an analogue bicycle, rotwild rx375. 18 kg with a shimano ep8 85hm motor. it also has a small 360 battery, but it's easy to remove as well. besides, it was possible to buy 1 or 2 additional batteries for the rotwild, increasing the battery capacity to 720 or 980 !!! what not to do with this bike..
New battery cell then. What the rest of the clip is about is giant fluff. I expect every one else will be using the new battery. So good news generally.
Reviews always pick the top spec bike. Which are in reality x 2 the price people generally can afford to buy. So is the still expensive £5.5k bottom of the ranger version less than 19kg? I bet it’s more like 25kg and looking at specs a smaller battery 😂
Are we supposed to think this is an incredible innovation when on Shimano motors you have for the last 3 years been able to lower the torque in the settings? Also, the argument that motor weight doesn't matter because of tyre weights is crazy and nonsensical. It's a good thing they made a bike that have the features that are desired, but come on man you are overselling this so hard.
I love the concept of this e-bike, it will reward fit riders who have good power to weight ratio. Fat slobs who only ride e-bikes and ride around in turbo the whole time should stick to riding pig bikes symbolic of themselves
Also let’s be honest now - NO ONE gives a f@@k how an Ebike climbs. Most of us come from Mtb and the worst ebike on earth would be better than that. We ride them down hills and then saunter up easier than of on an old bike. So it’s about looks, range, cost and image. 👍
I do! I was never a super good climber but I enjoyed finishing a climb. With an e-bike like this or similar I can try technical climbs that I wouldn’t have before but still be fresh enough for the downs. It’s a whole new world of challenge possibility for me.
I’m sorry, I think this channel is awful, but then most embarrassing channels are nothing but ads for the big firms…. But this is the worst, they just repeat the sales pitch….
Do you even ride? This is one of the top channels for learning about new bikes, reviews, the video quality is amazing. 235K mtn bikers subscribe to watch his content? Sober up
I agree there's way too much praise and never I hear any constructive criticism on this channel. They do great quality videos but I don't walk away understanding anything I haven't learned from the manufacturer's website..
I ride Cube CSH 160 with the 85nm Bosch Smart System and 750wh battery, okay it weigh's 24kg but I can dial down every riding mode from 85nm down to around 20 if I want to, like I have done in Eco and Tour. The "Launch" feature also is tuneable with every mode with the Bosch system! 👌🏼 food for thought!
i don't mind my 26kg whyte like what the point of lowering your torque i like to go up fast as possible to get as many runs as possible .. if weight is an issue just go to gym get stronger and lose some belly fat that where most of the dead weight is hidden simple is that. :D
@Stefano La Porta stronger you are bike feels lighter for you.. and the grip that weight of it generates is crazy my friend I really feel like my 26kg is just perfect:)
@@tomg224 it's true that when you are stronger you handle it better and add "bio-suspension" performance 😀 I'm lightweight at about 60 kg and my background is regular bike (the last is a 22 Slash I wiil keep as it's an amazing bike), so this bike sounds like as good option for me as a relatively agile trail bike with full power on demand when going up and allowing quicker....boring road transfer by using some assistance.
@Stefano La Porta I'm fit at 86kg training 4 times a week feeling strong that's why I can handle my bike :) ... btw I've said the same thing about my cube fritz 180 ill keep it heheh no chance m8 I need only one bike now :) whyte e180 ;) tyle "my little emtb love" in yt ;) that's me having fun on it peace 😉
