Last time, we discovered how the partnership of Edmond Jaeger and Jacques-David LeCoultre would form to bring cutting-edge design and manufacture together in the shape of the world’s thinnest movement, the calibre 145. But that was only the beginning for the duo-the real challenge still lay ahead: to design and build the world’s smallest movement, the calibre 101.

Fascinating! How anyone can manufacture such minute pieces is mind boggling! You ask at the end of your videos if there are any watches we may have an interest. I can't help but think of my very first wristwatch my father gave me when I was 5 years old. It was his for many years and when he bought himself a new Bulova, he gave me his old Westbury. This was the beginning of my timepiece fascination which continues to this day. I am now 66 years old and still stare at timepieces for hours on end and revel in there magical precision. Anyway, I digress. Back to my question. Do you have any information on the Westbury? Anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

From your excellent images, it is clear to see how the watch is wound and operates. But how is it set? Is there a mechanism that disengages the ratchet and engages the train when you pull the "crown" out on the bottom of the movement? This would require a 90 degree pivot from the plane of the movement.

Why does he say the balance wheel could not be shrunk any further? Is it because shrinking it would mean less mass, hence less inertia, so the relative importance of friction increases?
