The Loch Dhu has been on my whisky bucket list for ages now (along with the Fishky and TORF peat-aged whiskies), and I'm so excited to have finally got a bottle at auction. One of the 200ml bottles. Because I want to try it and share it. I don't want to have to drink an entire 700ml bottle.

'Luckily' (!) I was able to try Loch Dhu in a pub for £3.20 when it was still being made - it really is terrible! Later, on a visit to Fiddler's in Drumnadrochit I noticed they were charging £7.95 a dram for it and I had a (mostly humorous) discussion about ripping off the gullible with the owner...

You should try the Beinn Dubh from the Speyside distillery. Quite vile on the first taste. Bitter and sour. The tour guide will describe it as a “Two Sipper” whisky, in that they admit the first sip is mostly colouring and the second is the whisky. I’d personally prefer the whisky only. The colour is a gimmick.

@@andrewj8920Oh, yes: I know a couple of people who had nice things to say about Fishky (I just concluded it wasn't as bad as I'd feared), whereas Loch Dhu is truly horrible!

You've never had 99 Pipers, King Anne or Mekong. I tasted Loch Dhu in Oddbins in the 90s and its shit but I've drunk worse.

What a weird world it is that I am desperate to taste the world's worst whisky. Leaving out all the cruddy blends, and in countries like Spain we see the worst of the Scotch universe with bottles never seen in Britain and Ireland, there's a lot of bad stuff to choose from. I've had so much mediocre whisky but I would never buy it if I thought it so. Either no oak influence or way too much. Jim Beam Devil's Cut was horrible. It really was like sucking some juice out of a plank of wood. It was bourbon though so at least it looked like whisky. This stuff has the colour of Camp Coffee and has to have the most E150 in a whisky I've ever seen and that's saying something. It's fascinating really. Experienced whisky drinkers want to taste stuff to put in the experience locker and that includes awful, albeit interestingly awful, stuff. I can understand the draw. It's so weird, how much am I prepared to pay to taste terrible whisky? I'm so wanting the likes to go up so I can taste a sample. How will you get it to us Mark? WT

It's a matter of taste, describing it as scotland's worst whisky is wrong, very wrong. There are thousands of whiskies around now, some of which are not good to one person but pleasurable to another. How can you judge this one so you haven't been around long enough young man. Come back in 20years or so when you've gained enough experience.
