Hey guys,
And welcome back to another video. Today we are chatting about our new Camp King Industries RTT. Its no secret that this is an expensive tent, however, our justification is that this will now be our forever RTT and will last a lifetime. The tent is 100% Aussie made, which most companies and products can't boast about.
We also talk about our views with sustainability for the environment and gear in this video and this was also a deciding factor when choosing this tent.
If you want to check out any of the products Camp King Industries do, or information on the tent itself then check out their website here
campkingindustries.com.au
Cheers for watching and we will see you in the next one

Agree with sustainability and the throw away mentality we have now. It looks like a great tent but you shouldn’t have to upgrade the mattress at this price point, maybe something the company could look at with your feedback. Keep up the great work👍

Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. Australia’s date this year was 22 March 2021 - most people have never heard of it and probably don’t care

Love the rtt and the design . A mattress topper makes a huge difference if you are living in it night after night. If you are travelling around Oz for as long as you do I can understand why you decided on the Camp King.

We bought a James Baroud for all the reasons Matt mentioned. Yes it’s pricey, but it’s not going anywhere other than to be passed around the family I imagine. Had a Darche previously that I also loved, but moved to the quicker, less messy pack down because we enjoy winter camping as well.

Great run through of the tent Matt. As an owner of the Camp King Industries Roof Top Tent I agree with much of what you mentioned about the RTT, as you can see in my walkthrough of the Roof Top Tent on my channel. The features and quality of the tent are amazing and the design is well thought out. It's clear to see that it was created by people that camp, overland and use their own products. Plus the business are run by awesome bunch of people and it's an Australian made product, cheers! 👍

$7k is a great price. People won't bat an eyelid at spending $35k on a camper trailer. For 2 people this represents excellent value given the quality, resale and ease of repair. The ability to repair is a huge bonus. Gas struts are available everywhere, sailmakers/upholsters can sew the canvas and a fabricator can repair or replace the shell or mounts. People need to stop buying lots of cheap items and just buy a few quality items. This is exactly why Australia has a manufacturing and skills shortage

Glad to see your as happy with your Camp King RTT as I am with mine. The workmanship is second to none compared with others on the market. The wax converter canvas is awesome and the stitching on mine is very well done. Buy once and cry once, then never look back. I purchased mine over a year ago before Covid, mainly because with a back injury I have problems sleeping on the ground and setting/packing up swags. I enjoy camping and i like swags but they don't like me. I haven't look back with the RTT, yes it was expensive but on a pension I budgeted for it long and hard. I had my eye on one for quite a few years before I finally reached my end goal. The only thing I could envisage you doing to improve is showing the people the correct way of using the ladder (there's videos on their website), by having some adjustment/slack on the top rung so as to relieve stress on the bracket, but other than that well done.

We’ve had our CampKing RTT for just on 12 months and the only disappointment is the mattress, which I upgraded the first month. We do serious off-roading and enjoy camps where you’d never be able to take a trailer and the hard steel shell has taken its fair share of branch slapping and tree hugging without issue. I agree it’s a lot of money, but seriously, what hobby isn’t? Like you guys, I’ve slowly bought my camping gear over the years based on funds available and this tent was a great investment because I’m sure it’s the last RTT I’ll purchase. Being Aussie made, to me, was a strong selling point and It’s times like we’re in now when we need to be supporting Aussie manufacturing rather than buying overseas. Keep up the great travel vids….

Buy once, cry once. And it won't end up in landfill with all the other supposedly cheap stuff. The other thing is that if you purchase a high price/quality item, you can sell it on at a decent price, so it didn't really cost so much after all.

Hi guys, I know im late to the party but I'd love your thoughts on a couple of points... I've only just discovered your channel and love the work you do. Firstly, Love the sustainability of a lifelong purchase. Throwaway culture and planned obsolescence does my head in. I have got to ask though, why oh why after spending over 7k on a tent that will outlast humanity is it still unusable and uncomfortable?? You must be frustrated with the company, as good as they are, to sell an crazy priced item that still isn't able to do the only thing it's meant to well (comfortable sleep)! You then need to spend hundreds to fix the comfort yourselves. There is a point between wanting quality gear and paying a decent price, and a company way over charging and still not getting it right. For 7k I'd expect utter perfection Im a big fan of the channel and never comment on any videos, and this is in no way a criticism of you two. Just would love your ideas on it...

Hey mate thanks for the comment. It’s funny I was chatting to someone about this the other day. There are so many companies that do awesome sleeping options, but they all seem to fall short on the actual comfort aspect of sleeping ie the mattress. Personally if I was designing a tent, I’d start with the most comfortable mattress that’s practical and build around that. Since this video camp king has added a thicker mattress. But yeah so many companies give you something that feels like a sheet of cardboard 😅

When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. I love what you guys are doing and what you stand for. Love your content. But I can't help but feel bringing out a sponsored and biased video on something worth so much is abit... I dunno. Just not exciting and not genuine. You can't actually say that you hate it. Nor can you honestly recommend from your hearts that everyone with 7k cash should get this over the bush company or alu cab or ikamper or James baroud or the others. Because you're in a locked in position to push this particular brand down our throats as the king. As soon as RU-vidrs go down this sponsored route... It gets all too familiar and makes you the same as other sell outs. Why not gather all your patreon money and buy it outright yourself so it's unbiased. You got your companion fridge your redarc system your carbuilders insulation your RTT. It's all just makes you and 4wdAction one in the same
@OverlandTravellers
@OverlandTravellers 3 года назад
Sponsorship is no free ride. We have spent around 15k on camera gear, we have spent tens of thousands on things for the channel, trips, cars, computers to edit. We would have collectively spent thousands of hours on editing, shooting (while on a trip... you can’t relax) admin, emails, comments, merchandise, free advice all to make videos to watch for free. If we get a sponsored item, we have to make up the value of that item or more in some way. If you add all this together, if I wanted the cheapest, easiest and most convenient way to get gear...... I’d go to the shops and buy it. As an aside, we did pay for the majority of this tent. The gear we have on the car now is gear I would get regardless, and some of the recent gear that I did as an update, I did pay for, I just really liked it. And no I can’t recommend this over other brands, and I didn’t in the video, because I’ve never used them. I’m sure on a human level you can appreciate eating food and having a roof over your head, we need to pay bills. If I can get gear cheaper or for free and it’s gear I want, I will absolutely go for it.... and I would agree it is biased, I have a bias of the gear I like and use. It doesn’t mean I’m being untruthful or misleading. For all the people who don’t like being shown products, we have many many more people message thanking us for the advice or the gear that they bought on our advice. The internet or this channel isn’t for any one person, it’s for thousands of people. We’re still the same people making videos, you can take these kind of things how you will, but at the end of the day this is what I’m going to do to keep doing what I love and I stand by the things I say about the gear.

Great video. You declared the nature of sponsorship, you declared your bias (both due to sponsorship and personal preference) and you gave a good run down of the RTT. The only time there would be little value for viewers is if you stopped being honest and genuine. Unless there was someone who purchased every single RTT and compared them all, over an extended period in the same conditions, there is always going to be an element of bias, intentional/commercial or not. Viewers need to take responsibility for understanding the nature of the video just as they would when taking an account of anything from anyone. Really enjoying the channel and if you can get sponsorship then knock it out of the park!

Jesus, you need to be medicated to think thats "worth" $7k. Sorry guys, but youd want to be getting half price.

No tent is worth 7 grand, full stop!

I honestly would have agreed with you 5 years ago. I remember thinking that the $1200 we spent on our kings tent was a lot. Before that the first tent we camped in was a $12 job from Kmart. Some people have different needs. I’m sure you’re average Joe wouldn’t need to spend 10k on camera gear when they can use their phone, but for a photographer it’s a different story. For us, it’s worth every cent :)

It’s not worth it for you & many others because you can’t justify it or afford it.

@@Phil_McAvity your right! I couldn’t justify it... I did 28000kms around aust back in 2012 with a $700 roof top tent. I still have that tent now and my 3 kids still sleep in it when we go camping. Still in perfect condition...

@@zaccarden6393 I did a 38000kms trip around Australia back in 2011 in a Holden Barina, still got it and use it today. Purchased it for $1000 in 2010 . If I had the money I’d have done the trip in a fully decked out 200 series.
