In this video, we demonstrate how you can easily make your own Auto Cleaning Sieve Filter for under £120.
Sieve filters are a fantastic pre-filter that really does remove a ton of debris out of the water before it even has a chance to enter the main filter. Most sieve filters will need manual cleaning however we created our very own self-cleaning sieve filter using the most basic tools & materials found in most people's houses.
A normal sieve filter will cost you £645 which you still have to clean yourself. With the price increase of pond equipment, we thought we would share an idea that you may like to try and build yourself to save you some pennies.
The mesh used in this video we bought from:

Great idea. If you place the sprayer under the mash you don`t need to clean it that often. I will try for dure. A cover may be required. LOL

it wont work as the main water flow runs through it

This looks fantastic! Could you post a video walking us through the whole system? I’m wondering where to put the pump in a pool conversion system that’ll combine sieve filter, bio-filter, and UV.

Good idea. One improvement would be a black box and lid, with the cleaning nozzles poking through. No light, no algae.

@@thep0ndman I have a question what angle did you mount the mesh is it 45° and how big is the mesh panel ? I'm think of getting the 0.298mm hole with 0.076mm wire 68LPI with 64% open area. I feel 298 micron will be enough and was going to silicon it to a framework of 2" pipework with 45° elbows at the bottom for a flat collection tray so the angle of the mesh would be 45° running up. I will be adding paper binders to the underside to stop water running down the back and to give strength and support. An answer to either question would be greatly appreciated ! 👍
@thep0ndman
@thep0ndman 2 года назад
I will have a look and get the specs of the mesh over to you, 300 micron is what evolution aqua use on their filters so it will be fine. We played around with the angle to suit the flow of water, you will probably have to do the same to adjust to make sure the water is going through the mesh and the debris slowly work their way down to the bottom. Abit of trial and error.

It’s almost like a drum filter BUT: why don’t you let the water clean the mesh from the back side like it in a drum filter. The way you do it, you push the dirt even more into the mesh….
@thep0ndman
@thep0ndman Год назад
you cant realy as the water flow is falling down the mesh, you could probably switch off the pump each time but its more hassle

Pump fed defeats purpose.
@thep0ndman
@thep0ndman 11 месяцев назад
of?
@BoogeymanDracula
@BoogeymanDracula 11 месяцев назад
the purpose of a sieve is to capture poop and debris. If it goes through pump first it gets chopped up and pureed. The minute particles pass right through screen and into your bio filter. You want to capture evrything before biofilter. bottom drain to sieve gravity fed is the only real way to achieve this.
@thep0ndman
@thep0ndman 11 месяцев назад
@BoogeymanDracula lol it’s not a food processor the sieve is like 200 microns 🤣🤣🤣
@BoogeymanDracula
@BoogeymanDracula 11 месяцев назад
it works, it just works inefficiently. Requires more cleaning of bio filter which disrupts colonies of good bacteria. The ideal system is 4" bottom drain to a sieve, to a bio, to a UV, back to pond.
@thep0ndman

We see this a lot on this channel, just because some people have done something one way, it doesn’t mean that another way won’t work. I think the koi industry is just stuck in its ways and some people just can’t get their heads around different methods
