Wow, shocked really. It's my most used bag actually. I love the fact that the magnet is very strong as the theft is on the rise here in London so I know it's not going to be easy for someone to open the bag without me noticing. Besides I love the edgy style which perfectly suits my rock'n'roll style. Qualitywise, I've had this bag for more than 10 years and it holds much better than any other brand I used. It's literally indestructible.

I don’t get it! I have that bag in that exact colour and size and love it so much I added the larger one in black. It goes to show different strokes for different folks. I prefer it to all the other YSL flaps as it has a top handle. You just get used to it and gets so easy to line up and close. Persevere! Mine feels really well made and the leather luxurious- I think the Alexa is harder to get in and out of compared to this. I’ll wear mine tomorrow and really think about how tricky it is and report back but I’d rather have a strong magnet that one that keeps popping open

Hey Deb, yeah I do find YSL bags can be a nightmare to close. I used to have the envelope bag and would always have to stop and line it up so it would close. It would be good to see YSL improve this

You have to stay true to you! The bag is absolutely gorgeous, but if you can’t use it because it’s not functional for you it is what it is! Some people might appreciate the super strong magnetic closure. To each their own! ❤

I have this bag and the small Lou Lou, they are my favourites! The strong magnet does not bother me - there is a little knack to opening it but it also makes it very secure. It’s such a beautiful looking bag, and great quality. And the perfect length crossbody with great capacity depending on what you carry regularly. If l carry large bags l just find them heavy. It’s what works best for you and what you enjoy the most at the end of the day.

Such a shame. Its a lovely bag! When I clicked on this vid I thought it was gonna be the sequin fendi first I just watched your shopping for on Stephs channel. Ive got the small loulou and you really have to pull at it to open it. Ive left the sticker on in. Its still a very strong magnet. Worry Im going to rip the bag just opening it.

Hi Deb, I know exactly what you're talking about. I have 2 YSL College bags (1 in cinnamon suede and 1 in black leather/suede combo (limited edition)). The closure is, as you say, way too annoying. Opening is difficult, but closing is even worse. I always hold the bag almost upside down to close it. But, because I find the bag so beautiful and pleasant to use, I forgive her, but I have to admit, you are 100% right! Love from The Netherlands, Dawn ❤

I'm shocked! Not at the impulse purchase, we've all done it REGARDLESS of how measured we usually are! BUT dissing Saint Laurent's quality! *clutches pearls* My lambskin puffer is the most glorious thing, the quality is outstanding! But yeah, the magnet is hella strong!

Sorry it isn't work out for you, Deb. I almost bought this bag twice. It is stunning, but one thing that kept being a deal breaker for me was the chain. Drove me crazy every time I would go to try it on in store, the chain twisted and I would have to try to untwist it so it laid flat crossbody and I just knew it'd be one of those annoying fiddly things. I do have a Loulou and the magnet is about the same with the lip, so you have to kind of turn the bag towards you to make it snap in place properly. But that I can live with! However, I just bought the YSL 5 A 7 small hobo bag in Feb and it's my top bag regret, honestly. It's so lovely, but it just doesn't work for me personally. I am normally a top handle/crossbody girl and I wanted a small tote in my collection for a change. The bag is super simple to get into, but it constantly slips off my shoulder, and I feel like the handle drop is too long for me to carry over my arm, it seems so awkward! I've used it twice, it's in immaculate condition, but...every time I think of it, I SO regret not going with something else, even the college bag! You wouldn't want to do a bag swap, would you? Lol. 😂 No...but seriously......💕

Hi Deb! Love your videos. Isn’t this the same as the Chanel double classic flap where you have to find the button to snap the inner flap and then close the outer flap? I know many don’t button up the inner flap but I heard that could cause a hole in the bag so I feel like this is the same frustration.

Hi Deb! I’ve never had this bag but I sold a Gucci SoHo Flap Small Chain bag (that is actually mini) some years back because of this exact reason. My husband added a black sort of plastic so that the magnet would be more forgiving but just couldn’t work with it. 😞

Much as I love the Alexa design, it’s one of the most fussy bag closure ever designed. Often have to do triple opening…either I open in wrong sequence (ie start off with the magnetic flaps, then the clasp then back at the magnetic flaps) or after unfasten one flap, the other other flap closed up… The College bag is beautiful, persevere, you will get used to the strength of the magnet 😅

Hi, I have a beautiful medium Sunset bag. It’s structured, and has the same magnet issue. I always have to look at it closely before the two magnets “find” each other. Definitely not meant to be an every day bag.

Makes it worth your while going to the gym doesn’t 😆 but on a serious note, I made it a point awhile ago to go to stores and hold the bags that i want and try them on before making a commitment and I tell you I’ve saved a lot of money! If it’s a bag not available in stores I go to a reseller or buy one but from a place with a return option. I can’t tell you how many bags I obsessed over (including this one) and ended up not buying or returning after trying them.

Oh yeah...I had and sold one of these. Think I used it once. It was the prettiest dark blue but the top handle was squeaky and I hated the chain strap. Actually I think this was the bag that finally made me realize I just don't like chain straps, so not all was lost! 😂

Beautiful bag, don't be so hard on yourself. Can you try a little dab of lubricant that is made for metal hardware so the snap is easier to unsnap? Of course being so careful not to get any on the leather. Ask your husband about what product would ease a sticky snap? Good luck Deb! Keep it for awhile see if you can overcome that one downfall. Give yourself a break Deb. It wasn’t really an impulse purchase as you had been thinking about it for a while. I had the small ysl Lou Lou and I felt the same about the flap and closure. It wouldn’t just find the other magnet and I had to pull the flap to close it. Carried it only a few times and sold it. I love the taupe color and I need another taupe bag but the Lou Lou didn’t work for me. I know Melissa wade Adams was thinking of replacing her red college bag after selling it with a grey one. You may want to let her know before selling it on.

I’ve got the YSL medium envelope and it’s similar in that it has a strong magnet with a lip. Honestly never even considered it to be an issue before. Might be less noticeable as it’s made of a caviar type leather so it’s pretty structured so the two halves of the closure ‘find each other’ easily. I like mine a lot bar the sides which curve in which reduces the capacity. But it looks good so I forgive it.

Hi Deb! I had that bag in the medium in black and sold it also! I just didn't love it and I didn't like the closure either! My favorite YSL bag is the Envelope bag. I have 2 envelope bags-one in red and one in black with studs! Thanks for all the wonderful videos and being so honest with the reviews!

@@Wildunfiltered Yes the closure is much better on the envelope bag because the bag is more structured so easier to close. I got both of mine at 50% off of retail (one at Fashionphile and one in a consignment store). I just love the look of the diamond quilting and the chevron! I sold my brand-new College bag a while ago at a consignment and received around $1,300 for it which is basically what I paid for it. I have a wonderful consignment store near my home and the owner is awesome! She always asks me what I want for the bag, and we negotiate from there!

I had a bag with the same issue. It drove me crazy as I thought I would rip the bag trying to open it. I was able to take it back to the boutique and they did replace it.

Yes they gave me a new bag and although didn’t say it was defective they said it should not be that difficult. They tried it themselves and had the same issue so they knew it wasn’t someone just wanting something. So far with the new one no issues.

It's a shame to get a new bag, or new to you, and find out there are issues with the bag that make it a deal breaker. For a lot of us it is not possible or practical to try these out in store. I had heard that this could be an issue with some of the YSL bags, so I have steered clear. I'm sure you can pass this bag onto a new home :)

I made enough mistakes buying online that I now have a rule that I have to see, and try on, a bag IRL before buying. Even then I've made some mistakes, because I didn't test them enough. I keep going back though because I've also picked up some of my absolute favourites, some unicorns, online. Once I realize I've made a mistake, I sell them. Doesn't matter how much I paid, or will lose....they're not investments. Btw, I may be in the minority, I love my Pochette Metis so much I bought two!

I find mulberry Alexa more annoying than this one you are talking about. I never had any problems with closing or opening of this ysl bag. I never open it from the bottom but put my hand under the flap to open it. Alexas are very annoying with those hanging straps and two magnets not one !

Even with the annoying magnetic closure, bashing a brand that tries to keep prices down when all other brands are so overpriced, is not the way to go. For some of us even this bag might be a holy grail

Thank you for your comment. Of course to some people this is a holy grail bag. But at any price point there should be an element of feeling it is worth that price to us. My point of view is my own and it might not be your point of view. That is how it should be that we can all love and value different things. My view is that for £2k retail there are better options for me personally x

I think it’s the most beautiful bag. So much so I owned it twice😢. Yes, the clasp is annoying. I sold both of mine as it was just a bit too small and if I carried it by the top handle the strap dangled and swung around too much. Having said all that I still think it is gorgeous!!

YSL- where should I start 😂 I had a few pairs of YSL shoes and sold them ALL, saying that someone else can suffer wearing them 😂 there were absolutely awful, hard and impossible to wear. I never attempted anytime else from them and would not even look at their other products. No thank you 🙂‍↔️
