As a black American who likes genuine country music, the TV series sounds like window-dressing from people who see change as an inconveniece. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I miss when Kacey Musgraves made excellent country records, and her singles (even if they didn't do well at radio) shined a light upon her creative and storytelling masterpieces through her first three albums. As for the show itself, ehhh. Never going to watch it. Maybe it will be cancelled too like a lot of quality tv shows.
As someone who grew up riding shotgun of the pickup with my dad and grandfather I hate the current state of country music and find it hilarious how it's considered "racist" just look at Charley Pride who's one of the best country icons from the'70s or Neal McCoy who had multiple hits in the '90s. We also have Stoney Edwards, Howdy Glenn, Darrius Rucker who was massive for the genre in the 2010s and even Ray Charles who was accepted and collaborated with Willie Nelson for one of the most popular country songs ever.
I live in the UK and love country I think they were trying to say that music from rural areas that are about stories hardship and everyday life exist everywhere- which they do- just might not be in the sound that american country is. Ofcourse these artists were never going to make on music, row, like even the heaps of epic US indie artists. I use apple music and the "face of apple music " is a ridiculous claim, I haven't seen promotion for the winner
@Cyrus Waugh in Holland/The Netherlands whe do have some country artists! Ilse De Lange provided a festival called Tuckerville in Enschede! My personal favorite one is Waylon (Willem Bijkerk) He was inspired by the Waylon Jennings, you know the legendary country artist!
