Its not ridicolous at all. Master Duel simply has nothing to do with real Yugioh and its tiresome when Master Duel players sharing their thoughts on Yugioh TCG cause its always stupid and ridicolous takes due to their lack of knowledge about the game.

What about the people who play both as well as their being new players in the tcg also won’t have as much experience either also someone in master duel could have a unique perspective and still have good experience and lastly everyone can have bad ideas not just people in a specific group

You know how many tcg players didn’t even understand how mandatory effect priority shifting worked until they played masterduel? Hell some (probably most) of them still don’t understand. Masterduel players don’t need a judge to handle issues due to lack of game knowledge but the tcg does. You sound silly. Its the same game just automated. And arguably better because metas wont be defined by the inability to get a particular card that konami decided to only print x amount of copies of. Where you dont have to sell your left nut (of exodia) to get an important card for a particular strategy that wont even cost that much like 2 formats from now. There are problems with masterduel but people who exclusively play the tcg that feel superior for sone strange reason, wouldn’t know them.

Communities often function off of shared experience and I feel the YGO experience is too wide for its own good. "Liking Yu-Gi-Oh" could mean "I topped at the recent YCS" or "I have a Dark Magician somewhere in my attic". Some people like collecting the pretty cards, some people binge watch different seasons of the anime, and some people unironically play Flower Cardians. On a more serious note, as someone purely on the Master Duel side of things, I _do_ think its a very vocal minority, as most online negativity tends to be.

I recently had an interaction at a card shop where player asked me why would I ever want to play master duel? I explained that I work a lot, or I don't always carry a deck around. Master Duel (and for a long time for me, Duel Links) is great way to play the game without sinking too much time into it. I've learned combos, rules, and tested decks all while taking the train. Generally, the fact that there are robust fully featured digital versions of the game has made this game more accessible to me.

"You play Yugioh? How dare you betray us, the people who play Yugioh???" Yeah, it's kind of a silly thing to create divisions over. Unfortunately, there will always be people who try to make things into an "us vs. them" scenario. Personally I would prefer to play games in person with physical cards, but unfortunately I live pretty far away from any store. So I build decks according to the TCG banlist and play them on Master Duel despite the "different" format. If I like a deck enough, I even buy all the cards physically anyway! After all, I'm a collector too and that's not something you can really do (at least, not in a way that's meaningful to me) on Master Duel. There are strengths and weaknesses to every way to play, just let people have fun.

It is bizarre. Whether its TCG vs OCG, MD vs Physical or even MD vs Duel Links, I'm honestly kinda surprised how snobby people get towards different formats of the same game just because they dont favor the other over theirs DL in particular gets a bad end of the deal due to its monetization (though its gotten somewhat better at this over the years) compared to MD, but people would rather not acknowledge its existence either due to past experiences with it or how different it is to the other formats

Really is it. It's not unreasonable for competitive players to say something is not competitive and I don't like it. And everyone arguing about xyz is competitive. Yea it can be but the most competitive is TCG less variance best 2 of 3. No maxxc mini game. I mean the duel links and master duel don't even have a real ladder system. I wonder what the secondary market might have to do with this divide. Imagine a player with the money to spend on expensive, game-winning cards, that let them be mediocre at the game, but win at the tournament level. They go to Master Duel, where people can craft cards and not hunt down hard copies, now there's a more even playing field. And so maybe some players that are SEEN as "good" because of their ability to spend extra cash are now having that reality challenged digitally. and many of the players that are otherwise struggling IRL but have that fairness in MD feel like that makes MD more "valid"....?

This is so disingenuous. You can test on dB lots of good tcg players do all cards are free there. Maxxc not legal and best of 3. This are the issues TCG players don't like the Maxxc mini game or that you can just lose game 1 to variance in tcg this happens you can recover in master duel you just lose. This 2 issues not the fake one of I can spend more money than my opponent and I'll stomp them. If you have ever played against rogue with meta before it can just be boring sometimes they catch you then you'll either have the best time breaker ever or they will kill you chances as they proceed to lose every other match.

A LOT of the tribalist toxicity stems form the different formats and banlists imo. Like you said I've seen a lot of shitting on the OCG and it's players recently, and the MD hate is an extension of that since MD's banlist is way more similar to OCG It's one of the reasons why I wish Konami would just bite the bullet and unify the banlists at this point. It's already dumb enough that it makes getting MD players into the TCG more difficult since the formats are so wildly different, but it also just exacerbates dumb tribalism cause of minor bs like which format has Curious legal

I doesn't help matters that there are Yugitubers out there saying out loud that Master Duel is illegitimate and brushing of opinions from anyone who mentions it like they don't know what they're talking about. For example here in Latvia, Riga - we got about 2 card shops for entire city to sell limited amount of yugioh cards... That's why i was realy happy to get master duel on steam to get more involved in my favorite card game. I’m glad you mentioned us duel links players. I played the TCG for years, and played master duel for a bit when it came out. But I’ve been playing duel links since day one, and I’ve really liked the speed format. Right now the power creep is just good enough where cards are less powerful, but there is still some complex combos and interactions. The TCG is cool, but like you said I don’t have a locals nearby. Master duel has caught my eye a few times, but my friends all play duel links too. I like the slower pace but still methodical gameplay. It really doesn’t matter what format we play, it’s all yugioh. Hell I still play GOAT every once in a while. I watch YCS streams, look at TCG ban lists, watch master duel videos, like we’re all yugioh players at the end of the day

They hold locals in the relatively early morning, square in the center of when I'd be asleep on Saturday, which is not a night I can really go to bed early enough for. So despite my wanting to attend, I've never been able to make it. I have a deck and the desire, but it just hasn't worked out. I wouldn't even call myself a regular online player either- I haven't even booted Master Duel in 3 months, and it's been a little over a month for Duel Links too. Good games (ones with lots of back-and-forth, close ones) get me hyped enough to wear me out, and bad games (where I get rolled with zero counterplay for one reason or another) really get me frustrated. So more often than not, with my like Tier 5 deck, I end up playing 1-4 games before signing off, if that. I'd consider myself an okay player, and I keep current with the anime, but it's rough for me to find the motivation to actually play a lot of the time.

I personally work full time however i still try to make locals if possible. Master Duel allows me to work on deck ideas and put them to the test against other people. Still play the physical game like everyone else but like you said Paul sometimes you can't make it to locals so MD is a good alternative that allows you to not only get the chance to face other players but also just relax after a long day and either play a casual or grind on the ladder. There really shouldn't be any sort of divide but sadly it'll always happen no matter what game you play regardless.

I think you said the key word for me “convenience” when it comes to playing MD. It’s just something I can log into and duel my friends or other people from the comfort of my home. Or if im out and got some spare time I can just get my phone out and get a duel in. Plus it keeps up with all of the important stuff in a duel like the effects and I can read each card as it’s being played. I just don’t think the TCG style is for me. I don’t really care to buy cards and go out to duel. And then trying to remember everything going on in front of me would honestly be too overwhelming for me.
@DaShikuXI
@DaShikuXI 4 месяца назад
For me the main thing is time. Playing the TCG with real cards just takes a really long time. Having to resolve every effect manually with your opponent is not a speedy process. Having simulators like the videogames or things like Edo Pro just makes playing the game so much more convenient. Having something that handles tasks like looking though your deck, shuffling your deck, drawing cards, etc. is just nice.

This divide makes no sense to me. I play master duel because I dont have time to go to locals and I dont have a local card shop that holds yugioh events. I’d love to be able to go to a ycs event but that would probably be me saving for a vacation. I still play the tcg with friends when we get together but yugioh players need to stop this divide. We’re all playing the game and should have fun
@jbarmor3281
@jbarmor3281 4 месяца назад
I wasn't aware of the divide until MD came out (I was and am a DL-only player). This created a divide between MD and DL. Even with many players leaving DL for MD, the passion of the DL community kept DL alive. It also helps that DL has gotten better since MD's release, with bundle deals, character tickets, BOX chips, Pick-Up and Deck Build BOXs, archive skills, and Rush format being added. When Rush Duels came to DL, a small Speed-Rush division was unintentionally introduced. I enjoy both formats equally and want both to succeed. You bring up great points! We are all playing Yu-gi-oh at the end of the day. People can give their opinions on why one format is the best, but they should not belittle others for playing other format(s).

Regardless of the medium, I love and will continue to support this channel. 🤷‍♂️ With Yugioh, physical cards do have a nostalgic novelty to me, but you put out great/ entertaining content either way. Sometimes it just makes more sense to use Master Duel. This channel does a great job supporting the physical card game, and using Master Duel still brings attention to Yugioh as a whole. Team APS has brought way more support to the physical card game than any of these negative people hating on you guys in the comments. If anything, doing both shows your appreciation for all available Yugioh mediums. Continue to make content the way you feel is best, and I’ll be with you guys on the road to 1M. 👊

one thing that well make master duel a better way to get into/play yugioh is the fact it's free and while the game does have micro transactions you can play the game without them like i have. i want to play the diabellstar deck irl but some of the key cards are CRAZY expensive and are short printed and i was only able to get one from a box, which itself is expensive too.

So I am a yugi boomer but I did compete in Duel Links and took a break from TCG and I have met people that never played TCG and it was really cool to see their viewpoint for Yugioh as a whole. They don't know cards released are technically old cards it is new to them. To your point if you are good at Yugioh it carries it is the same with Duel Links because even though it is speed Duel rules the yugioh cards are still the same and rulings like missing the timing, damage step etc.. it is all the same. Great video btw!

I think that's crazy since during COVID and even before people have asked for a YGO version of Magic Arena and now we have that. I think it's a great way to test you favorite decks maybe not all of them since not all cards are available yet but most are. But hopefully MD will be on par with Arena

Problem is that Arena is 1:1 with the current Standard format of Magic (only really difference is that you can't go infinite with tokens, because of server issues). If Alchemy was the only format you could play on Arena than there would be a lot of issues.

As someone who's very much a casual outsider this discussion is very silly to me but it's also very much the kind of thing that happens among passionate communities. See the Minecraft Java vs Bedrock debate, or anime subs vs dubs. I wish I liked playing ygo at my LGS more. For me if I lose which I do often it's a long half hour or so for the round to end where I don't always have anything to do but sulk and shuffle and move my side deck stuff around. In Master Duel I can get right back into a game. That's worth maxx c to me lol

I might not be the audience for this video, but I grew up on the anime from Duel Monsters up to Zexal and played the DS era games. The game seemed so fun till I saw how fast and complicated the TCG can be and it intimidated me for the longest time. Didn’t really give the game a shot again till Duel Links and Master Duel came out and I’m so glad I did. I’m still very much a casual, but thank you for acknowledging that it’s valid to enjoy the game through those mediums. Duel Links especially

Most communities have very toxic elements and factions to them and Yugioh is no exception. I enjoy Master Duel for the convenience and to try out some decks, I play Duel Links mainly for the Rush Duel aspect now as I find it to be pretty fun. I have mostly branched to other games due to how Yugioh has evolved, it has been feeling a bit stagnant as of late. People need to chill out and let people play the game the way they want, I have seen a bit of toxic behaviour from players but for the most part the groups and communities I have played with have been pretty good. Got my fair share of complaints about the game like useless support cards for fun decks or most decks cheating out op cards and the overall generic power cards that belong to an archetype, but getting mad over someone enjoying a different way to play seems pointless and stupid.

However, I can’t always afford to take a long bus ride to my local shop, play, and take that long bus ride back on a Sunday afternoon when I still would need half the afternoon to get ready for work the next day. I love this game and this channel. I feel this is the one place where it can be an open discussion that feels valuable and insightful. But as much as I love the game I loathe the community. It is a community of complainers. A “bad” banlist will come out and all you hear is why is x card banned/semid/limited but y card is still allowed. And I’m definitely tired of hearing complaints about floodgates. Yes they aren’t fun to play against/ lose to but that is just part of the game and you just have to deal with it. Just all the negativity is not a good way to bring more people into the game we love. With all that aside another great video as always Paul.

I do believe both sides want what is best for the game, or their 'perception' as to what is the best for the game. The differences in perception at every level of play comes definitely from a love of the game, and one that changes on too many aspects too frequently. I think it is good that the TCG and Digital are separate entities, and even one who has played both ends as paper, until I could no longer financially support it and moved to Master Duel, I believe they should stay as such. But I don't disbelieve in the co-existence of their communities. We love the card game for our own reasons. Some love the solitaire-esque play of turbo fast decks that can flood the board with win conditions. Some love comboing decks that play upon the opponent's mistakes or create openings in their opponent's combos. Some enjoy reliving the older days when Yugioh was new and fresh, taking those turns where mechanics such as set, pass, and flip monster effects were the name of the game. It is indeed a vocal minority that has an issue, and even though I solely am Master Duel these days, I still wish for the continued success and prosperity of the TCG, as well as the surge of Master Duel's success. You move, duelist. Let's all get to the end together.

Simple answer: its often just elitism, something Takahashi always despised. All our engagement with Yugioh can be very different from each other. And that can separate us somehow. I personally think its strange that Yugioh got that many nostalgic collectors that dont play the game any more and just invest in the cards as a kind of art piece for a frame on the wall. I think this people are disconnected from the actually hobby. And its people like me who thinks like this that separate them because i think about this kind of engagement with Yugioh in this certain way. Its a game play it. If you cant just learn it again. If you like old Yugioh then play Goat Format, and proxy your 2000$ Blue-Eyes you want to play...

I’m not a die hard yugioh player, I’ve dabbled here and there with the tcg not too much tho and my main way to consume yugioh is through master duel, it’s slightly discouraging when someone like me tries to reach out to a tcg player when I have a genuine question cuz I’d love to be more invested in the tcg but I just end up being alienated for playing master duel or as if my questions comes from some sort of arrogant ignorance. I used to buy the physical product, but ended up stopping around the 5d's era. I just didn't have anyone to play with and the travel to any places to play any kind of local games was too far (YCS was even further). I got into Duel Links because it is Yu-gi-oh. It's the game I loved as a kid, just a bit smaller and I can play it wherever as opposed to needing to drag around cards...and let's not forget that the amount of mechanics is getting up there in terms of complexity and quite frankly I'd rather let a computer handle it. Master Duel is cool and all, but I've put all my time and effort into Duel Link and would rather play there than to get restarted in a new game. I still actually have my old cards, including 2 that I think are ghost rares (Atomic Scrap Dragon and Majestic Red Dragon). The Majestic Red one was a funny get as it came out of one of the pack in a tin for Majestic Star Dragon.

as a ocg player who both play master duel and physical paper deck, i ENJOY both different platforms. Even though master duel is also part of TCG area, I never disrespect TCG and TCG player. Rather i always been curious about learning their strategy , deck building idea and more thorough master duel cuz there is no limitation on what you can do in master duel platform. Instead of judging players their skills based on what platforms/decks they are using, we should think twice before making any statement/opinions cuz there might be reasons for it. And just being open- mind toward both platforms and player’s choice and try to understand each other,,,its just so frustrate to see these negativity statement around the community.

What's funny to me about this whole thing is that both tcg physical and Master Duel require you at some level pay money to get cards you might need, haven't played or seen any guides recently but from what i remember Master duel is hard free to play, i only got 3 decks and those with the changing meta arent gonna get me to higher levels unless i change the playstyle which again you might need to pay so you can break down unwanted cards

It's so strange and honestly quite pathetic how TCG players keep whining about OCG when they don't even play it. And it's not like they are forced to play MasterDuel, there are plenty of online sims that allow you to play TCG format. I also don't like how TCG players thump their chests about their win in Worlds, conveniently forgetting they they only have 3/13 championship wins overall. It seems kind of overcompensating. Frankly, at this point, I think there may be a slight element of racism and/or projecting personal frustrations of Masterduel.

I also play both, but I prefer the psychical cards because I like that feeling in my hands. But I understand why Master Duel is liked over the psychical game sometimes and even why it has Maxx "C", because in Master Duel it feels like you can actually build anything you want and don't even have to drop a single cent on the game to get everything you want from it. While right now for me at least, the psychical game feels like I have a wall in front of me, of both skill and money. Where I have to rely on Luck to get the good cards since I can't buy the singles because they cost so much, so I'm left with using cards I was lucky enough to get from trades, packs or the cards people didn't want.

Tribalism is one of those aspects of humanity I've learned to just accept. We can't really do much about it except mitigate its impact by not participating. I'm fortunate that my locals experience has been largely positive. We have a mix of skill levels and experience and most people get along just fine. I do wonder though if it's partly an investment problem. Real cards cost money - far too much, let's be real - and upholding the rules, correct game states, forming correct chain links, activating effects with the correct timing, etc can take a lot of effort. Whereas on MD, cards are vastly cheaper and easier to acquire, your cards glow yellow if you can use them, you literally cannot activate a card illegally and the sim automates all the chain links and effect timings. This isn't a bad thing at all, but I do wonder if there isn't a certain level of resentment, or maybe a feeling MD-only players never have to learn the intracacies of paper play. ...that said, I've played plenty of paper-only players who can't do half of that, so maybe it's a moot point.

I play the TCG both physical and online (Ignis, Dawn of the Duelist and Dueling Nexus) I also gave MD a try but uninstalled it very recently because I take my decks I built from my own cardpool and recreate it online since mid-MR4 and not copying digital decks (2016-2018 was the time when I started collecting cards again and slowly got back into the game, during Pendulum the online duels on duelingnexus were much more forgiving than today) During MR4 I made the switch to a copied Blue-Eyes Chaos Max Deck to play around Extra Zones and started collecting BE stuff from there. In was in this casual player mindset where you buy a structure deck and product only once and slowly collect and neither think of buying 3x or online the cards you really need.
