During the pandemic our hospital gave us lunch which was usually a sandwich chocolate and crisps. My Portuguese colleagues were appalled, as they said why is a health centre giving us stuff that’s unhealthy. My Portuguese colleagues eat well , none obese, none restrict themselves, all natural. I think it points to the answer of the French condundrum.

I have been travelling to USA since 1987 , from Pakistan 🇵🇰, have noticed some difference in the food we get in my country, what I found odd to start with was the size of vegetables, no seeds in fruits, they look great but have very little taste, and after a full meal, one gets hungry soon , the huge size of chicken maybe because they are fed hormones, same with cows , here this hormone feeding has also started mainly in chicken and I have observed that those people who consume more chicken are putting on weight very fast . The vegetables are much less tampered with and also fruits. They taste much better, these are full of seeds and go bad much sooner than the ones in America and UK. Many people here have 2 meals, like me and don't snack in between and don't feel hungry till dinner. Those living in villages have almost nothing from bakery or other junk food and are healthier . Mostly our meals are home cooked. But as we are trying to follow the western style of growing our crops and poultry and dairy products, the health of the people is being affected. I wish we would leave nature alone , the produce may fall , but whatever is produced is much more nurturing and healthy. What's your opinion ?

My sister provided respite care for kids. Her own 4 drank water not juice or fizzy sweet drinks or iced coffee . The respite kids said water made them feel sick tasted bad etc. The water was rainwater not chlorinated or metallic and eventually they got used to it . As a kid our water was often bad in summer and we were allowed to add cordial . There were tricks you could use like letting a jug of tapwater stand for an hour so the silt settled on the bottom! As i got older i drank a lot of tea. But the best thing was moving out of the outback to places with rainwater tanks and good tap water. Cheap carbonated drinks are sold in huge quantities to poor people . When i shifted from poor schools to schools in higher socio economic suburbs the kids were slimmer and carried water bottles. The idea that its choice is questionable.

Its great advice and all very well for people with a decent income to be able to make these choices. The reality is whole foods/organic food etc is more expensive than the high processed food and if you don't have much money people will tend to go for those less healthy foods. I am slowly moving away from high processed food as much as possible, it's hard work!

Sometimes (not always) it's a matter of priorities. I notice quite a few people spending a bundle on cars, tattoos, piercings, high-end coffee, booze, entertainment, tech gizmos, lottery tickets (a tax on the stupid) and then moaning about the cost of decent food. Even if you don't waste your money on unnecessary stuff, maybe think about getting together with other people to take advantage of bulk shopping for grains, pulses, etc. And ultra-processed food isn't always cheaper. Dried beans, lentils, etc. and root veg are reasonably cheap and delicious if you know how to cook.
@magicknight8412

this is it. I know so many people who claim to have no money, always be skint yet they have plenty of money for cigarettes, going to the pub every day etc etc as you mention. For JUST lossing weight, it’s calories in , calories out.. but for Health it’s definitely the Quality of food. But that should be logical to everyone. So if all you give a shit about is lossing weight eat one Mars bar a day and you will lose weight. SUGAR doesn’t make you fat, excess calories do.

this seems to be a very silly, obvious and inarticulate discussion. learn nothing here. and the guy on the right definately takes up too much of the talking time, too bad.
