2k19 was amazing though..... they just fucked it all up again with 20 and now 21 is ass. I haven't bought any new sports games since 2018. Well I've bought one. NHL 20. That was it.
What really threw me off with 2k18 was the amount of product placement. I know 2k always had that but 2k18 was way over the top. Like I remember when u first go to the barbershop shop there’s a cutscene where the barbers talk about the jbl head phones. I was like “wtf?!?”
@@colewrld901 bro that’s literally what 2k21 my player is everyone is complaining about everyone player is op and dunk animations happened so much. Trust me you don’t want that. You want limitations on some builds
I agree. The bad thing about it is that I had been playing 2k for years by then and that was the year I decided to take my talents online with My Team. I still have PTSD
Nah it started with 2k17 the game that made our players into role players, instead of superstars. 2k17 had such a cringe story and was the year most people gave up on mycareer 🤦
@@colewrld901 they just need to drop this b-movie level storytelling they’ve had for years now. Look at fifa with the journey trilogy when you play as Alex hunter, it was actually really well done, but 2k refuse to put any effort whatsoever into their games
@@cheeto6057 nah they need to drop it period and let us be ourselves. Even with that FIFA trilogy, we were playing as an already created character. I want to be myself in a game, not someone 2k or EA made for me. They need to get rid of the storylines and go back to gameplay and depth in sports video games already.
@@colewrld901 I can definitely agree with that, I was just pointing out how well ea did it with fifa compared to how awful 2k handled it, which says a lot of EA is making your shit look like garbage
I think I'm one of the only people who loved 2K18. It sucked for Park but I had one of the most fun playing Play Now Online in '18. The gameplay and aesthetic just felt right to me. Idk how to explain but it just felt satisfying to me. Runners, euros, gathers, and floaters were so smooth and fun to execute in 18, before they got nerfed in 19 and 20.
@@rinnerebirthx1369 There is video of a literal NBA player raging about how badly the game sucks compared to 16 and 17. I'm gonna wager he plays more "real basketball" than you do.
I bought every NBA 2K game from 12-18. 16 was the last 2K game I enjoyed. 17 looks great in retrospect given where the series has gone since, but I remember finding it frustrating at the time. 18 was so bad I played it for a week and then went back to 17 until they shut the servers off, literally threw the 2K18 disk away while moving to a new apartment, bought NBA Live 19 in protest, and then only bought 2K20, like 9 months after launch when it was on sale on the PSN store for $20. And given that 2K21 looks like 2K20.5, and I'm skipping this console generation, I'll probably never buy a 2K game again.
2k player ask madden player why the want an NFL 2k game saying it would be just as bad, madden players ask 2k players why they complain (both are wrong but that how much better 2k is than madden)
2k18 was bad, but 2k19 was a game that you genuinely, with no exaggeration, could not go more than 15 seconds without encountering a bug. pretty much unplayable, def worse than 18
it's crazy cuz i wasn't too crazy on 2k growing up, i only owned 2k13 on ps3 previously. my friends were crazy about 2k and when 2k17 dropped i finally felt the FOMO. i decided to buy 2k18 cuz if 2k17 was fire, 2k18 would be even better, right..? man... what a horrible time to join the 2k community LMFAOOO
In my opinion, 2K would add some fully licensed european basketball leagues, full G League and fully licensed Euroleague in 2K18 to reduce the grind, but they only focus to NBA casuals. Every sport game franchise (outside Madden) has some foreign leagues. FIFA is not only about national teams, they have over 35 leagues (the most leagues with former leagues that were once in FIFA would be 46 up to that point), Even EA Sports's NHL series has some European hockey leagues, not only NHL (also has AHL). Why 2K don't want to focus more to the Europeans to add more leagues and teams from that contiment? It's 2023 and we need European leagues in 2K23, not only a handful of teams. Also adding national teams would be a great addition to the game.
I'm a OG 2K player and I honestly would say this the downfall of the whole series was NBA 2K13 that's when I start adding VC and then they start getting greedy after that
this game came right out the gate with disappointment. the moment I realized you couldnt even do something as simple as change your character's skin colour or adjust his face sliders in detail I knew I was gonna hate it. my character's annoying voice, b fresh, 1,000 dollar haircuts, and even grindier vc prices made me put the game down for good
Bro I love 2k17 and I still think the play now mode in the game is the most fun of any 2k, since the gameplay is really simple and the shot stick is so smooth.
Amazing how both NBA 2k18 and MLB The Show 18 are both considered the worst in the series. I don't know anything about the online experience because I didn't have internet at the time, but I remember how obnoxiously hard it was to make a shot. Now I've never been that good at 2k, but I was still good enough to play on the 2nd highest difficulty. But THIS game oh my god. I was absolute ass, and as someone who plays 2k casually it really hurt bc I used to love 2k
2k20 is the only one that’s bad. the layups in 18 was a bit Annoying but the game was still fun. As far as micro transactions I understand the argument but i don’t play my player I like the online head to head. But what I’m saying is it seems as if people allow micro transactions to ruin the games that are fun otherwise
I don’t vote. But if a presidential candidate comes out and says he/she plans on making micro-transactions illegal (which they should be), I’ll be first in line to the polls.
God the thing i hated about 2k on current gen was the introduction of cringe mycareer stories, they got worse and worse, with 2k18 having the worse 1. God it was terrible. I wish they'd get rid of storylines and cutscenes
I was pissed at 2k18 and traded it in pretty quickly and haven't bought one since. servers has always been trash so who cares if the gameplay is A1 if you can never play smoothly with anyone? at least on my player/park.
Imo, 2k would prolly do better if they ditched the annual releases and just focus on one game to support and sustain. I mean they already have a way monetize their shit, so why not, I can really see 2k gaining more if nba 2k becomes a full on mmo
Okay, 2k17 was a step back in visuals from 2k15 and 16 but take one look at Shaq in 2k17 and 2k18 ( which Shaq was one of the cover athletes for) and you can't tell me 2k18's graphics were better. I hate 2k's generic body type they've used for the last 3 years. The only improvement in the last 3 years is that they scanned in more player faces and added slightly more muscle to the player models. The generic player models in 14-16 just looked better to me. 2k17 easily had the best dribbling and movement and I've played 19, 20, and 21.
I bought nba2k21 and I spent like an hour on it before I was like “no way I’m playing this” so I requested a refund and because I play on Xbox and not PlayStation and I was able to get my money back.
Yeah I 1,000 percent agree that 2K18 is the worst one of all and my biggest issue was the gameplay. Gameplay is what I am concerned about the most, if the gameplay is shitty to the point that it's unplayable and makes people rage so hard, it's the worst game in my opinion so I totally agree with everything that you said in this video man
I have to agree. At least 2K devs fucking try. Lol. EA Sports is just full of hollow employees who have no life left in them to care about what fans say.
I remember playing the hell out of this game and grinding to like 80OVR, only to have my player be deleted for no reason. Literally gave up on this game after that
My player in 2k18 is a headache i mean cutscenes are cringy and you can’t skip it and you have that asian girl b fresh i swear i wanted to punch her face so bad. And i have a problem going back to my apartment game keep crashing when im about to enter the elevator. Waste of money and the worst game ever.
My player was still there, but all my badge progress was reset to -99999 or whatever. I kid you not. I tried to get 2K Support to fix it because it was something I know for a fact that could be fixed. IT was an issue impacting others in the community and Agent (youtuber) did it live on stream. They refused to fix my character and told me to buy more VC. I immediately deleted that trash off my system and haven't looked back.
@@yousoldthebag I’m ok with that opinion, it could be vice versa. It can also go as 2K11 is the best game on ps3 generation and 2K16 is the best game on last gen
Oddly enough, this was the first NBA 2K game I had, and I thought it was the bomb. I played little MyPlayer because it was obviously pay to win, but played so much MyLeague and customized just about every team. I remember making a Harlem Globetrotters roster that got 200 downloads and I was so happy. This shows how much better 2K is than EA
same here, my dad had 2k11-14 on my PS3 but never got around to playing it since I was into racing, but man only now do I realize how bad 2K18 was but I honestly had a happy experience with it
Still playing through my gm mode with Jackson Baldwin in his second season.. averaged a triple double on my pistons his rookie year lol in Jackson's second year I trades for Freddie staples too lol
I usually get me a 5 piece from a KFC and blow out the toilet later for a good price. Get some biscuits put some Tabasco on it and I'm gonna rip ass like no other. God damn love me some KFC worst decision is eating there and not blowing out their toilet bc if drive home im speeding like a mf 5 min later bc I'm gonna explode. Run right through the garage door kick down the door and tear up my bathroom God damn no fun.
@@shino1300 yeah because 2k has 0 depth in mycareer. There's nothing to do. That's why people feel like the storylines are needed. If 2k would actually take out the storylines and cutscenes, while adding lots of goals and depth to mycareer then it would be fun. Think about madden superstar mode in madden 08. Do much shit to do, without a story or think about 2k11, no story but so much fun basketball shit to do and it was actually challenging with smart AI
This game made me quit buying 2k games for good, so in a way one could say it did me a favor. The thing is that I felt very similar trying out 2k22 recently (due to PS4 having it as a "free" game on PSN Extra). I was still unable to compete and was offered to buy VC at every turn. The low amount of VC earned from actually playing games was pretty ridiculous. This further cements that 2k is still greedy, and the games are very much pay to play unless you are a grinder.
I completely agree 2k is one of the best games and they listen to there fans for example they listened to agent 00s words on 2k it’s self us 2k fans have an amazing game yet most are still complaining and I play a little madden and to be honest I can understand your frustration
Unpopular opinion: I actually kinda liked 2K18. It wasn’t perfect, tattoos and cosmetics weren’t that important to me (they had free downloadable custom shirts the community made so I was set lol), the missed layups and sliding out-of-bounds to save the ball were frustrating, and I liked the Neighborhood.
Except every single time u went home to ur apartment some random Asian bitch was promoting Reese puffs for literally no reason at all and it was unskipable
Same for me. Sorry for this very late comment, I'll go further with saying that imo the 2k18s "Park" was the one I enjoyed the most, the archetypes system was in fact very well balanced and dribble cheese spamming wasn't efficient as it is now. Also despite the grind vor the vc, I prefered this progression system as once I got my 99 i wasn't tied to a very shitty note system. Got to admit I didn't buyed 2k every year since this one.
I remember I tried to give 2k another chance and played 19. I love my franchise mode. Imagine my surprise when teams refuse to sign their star players back, contracts was completely out of hand. Like u had like 80 ovrs wanting like 90+ ovr money. Big name guys stayed free agents because teams couldn't afford them and etc...
Agreed, and I don't think it ever will be at a truly great level again. Graphics are incredible, but the whole video game industry has shifted to a money-at-all-costs perspective that puts the gamer last with every decision the companies make.
@@Nelson_Swamp gameplay is all that matters, all that other at least to me is irrelevant. People are always gonna complain about something, the only thing 2k can do is fix they're own mistakes and let's not forget Take2 are the ones pulling the strings 2k just makes the game.
I’d argue that 2K hasn’t cleaned up its act after 18. Hell, I’d say they’ve gotten worse. The trailer for 20 was focused on gambling games and 21 started the rush for game companies to make their base games $70.
For me it’s 2k12 at least from a gameplay standpoint, it was such a huge letdown for me especially after coming after 2k11 which IMO is the best 2k of all time. The graphics, presentation, and game modes such as the Legends showcase were nice but it felt like a chore just playing them. Dealing with issues like this Speed was a joke ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jZn17qI8g6o.html Terrible defense by your CPU teammates while playing MyCareer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ns13t03BZZg.html There were several other issues as well but these we’re 2 issues that made the game unplayable at times and one of these problems still exist today. And some of these problems still exists today in 2k
Partly due to your coverage of older games I went back and bought 2k17 (for $5 shipped) and played thru the single player campaign. As bad as the game may have been at launch or during the year or online, all I played was the single player MyCareer offline and enjoyed the #orangejuice storyline. After losing to Ben Simmons for RotY (despite having better numbers) and winning the Finals and Finals MVP, I bought 2k18 for $3 shipped and thought I'd go thru that single player offline campaign too. I was immediately greeted with NO cutscenes, NO storyline, just a calendar of events and a wonder why the announcers are calling me DJ. I believe since the servers were shut down they don't even have the single player cutscenes and story, which is absolute trash. At least with NBA 2K17 I got to enjoy the story and duo of myself and Justice Young.
only good thing about this game is the all time teams and the music. every other aspect is trash. you also left out the park lag, unskippable cutscenes and ads.
NBA 2K18 is the one that started the total downfall for the legendary NBA 2K Series. 2K18, 2K21, and 2K24 are the top 3 WORST NBA 2K GAMES OF ALL TIME.
Ahh. This is the only 2K I ever played until the current one. I bought it because I had heard friends talk about it. It honestly turned me off to the series, the only thing I even remotely enjoyed a tiny bit was Blacktop. But the game in general was terrible
This was the beginning of the end of me liking sports games, now I’m boycotting them until some real innovation is put into the genre. They’re all the same game every year, just the micro-transactions get more inexcusable
