Is this the worst place to live in the UK? In today's tour, we visit Bradford. Bradford was named the 10th worst place to live in England in 2022. My intention isn't to offend anyone who is living in Bradford, I wanted to see for myself why this city is considered to be one of the worst places to live in England and form my own opinion.

I lived in Bradford for 4yrs as an international student. I am originally from Seoul which is quite large and busy city all the time so Bradford was really calm and quiet city for me. There are some of hidden germ places to visit. It is not that bad as people point out to be. I loved the places in/near Bradford too, Baildon, Leeds, Manchester, York, Harrogate, Saltaire, Hebden Bridge and Ilkely of course! I loved the Bradford no matter what. It is my second home town for me. One day I hope there is a chance to visit Beautiful Yorkshire again. Cheers from South Korea x

Do not forget to mention the racial tension from Asians towards white people like myself, who gets called a white pig & other nasty stuff every time I try to venture out of the house, taxi drivers (Some of them) trying to steal money from you, if your not quick on the mark...this place has become a sad rubbish tip to what it once was & before people start jumping down my throat calling me a Racist, I am not. Wow, Bradford rougher than Aberdeen, that says it all. I grew up thinking all or most of Scotland was rough and all the time I was quite possibly living in a worse area. Visited a few weeks ago. The architecture of Bradford shows that this was once a proud industrial city. The money has moved out long ago along with all the decent jobs. Bradford has too much crime, poverty, unemployment, drugs, low wages and business continues to move out resulting in deprivation . City of culture 2025 means money will be spent to polish up the city, but it’s money gone to waste, as it was with Coventry. City of culture will not bring back the businesses that the city needs. Bradford will simply continue to decline.

@jamesbarker5535 Год назад
Oh well, we all might as well give up and pack our bags then! Think your assumptions are a little wide of the mark. Crime is no more significant than all the other major cities of this scale - although driving standards/crime is abysmal. Deprivation does indeed remain an issue and needs to be addressed. It has a rising and young population though - which is at odds with your claim everyone is moving out - and has an exciting future ahead. The city is diverse and seeing plenty of investment committed long before the City of Culture 2025 success. A very family friendly place, plenty to see and do with a decent enough shopping experience. PwC have occupied Grade A office space bringing with it high skilled high paid jobs. One City Park is a new Grade A office development currently under construction. Provident occupy and own a significant Grade A office building in the city centre, Santander also occupy a significant office - although a significant number of jobs are call centre roles - and there is a lot of cultural assets to appreciate. Architecture, National Science and Media Museum, Alhambra Theatre - one of the best in the North for sure - great curries, Imax Cinema and the conversion of the old Odeon building is ongoing which will open as a 4,000 seat live music and conference venue next year. Something to look forward to. Brand new market, street food and live entertainment space also under construction at Darley Street right in the heart of the city. Sunbridge Wells is very much worth a visit. A subterranean complex of bars, cafes, eateries and some retail. It's like a little museum of its own with plenty of Bradford District memorabilia on display. Will be interesting to see Bradford in 3 years time. I would imagine the experience will have improved further.

@@fatlad5090 What you describe is unacceptable and very sad to hear and integration with elements of certain communities is a massive challenge. However, do not tar everyone with the same brush. For example, the vast majority of Asians are law abiding, pleasant and helpful people. Do not lose sight of this. Bradford has its problems, of course it does and has a poor record when it comes to domestic violence and sexual offences. But, gun crime, knife crime, drug offences, mugging incidents/theft, car vandalism - not driving standards which Bradford is very bad for - are all worse in the East Midlands, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow etc. I bet people wouldn't question visiting some of these places! The perception of Bradfird as being an unsafe place is not backed up by crime stats which other cities are worse for. Interestingly Bradford ranks in the top 10 safest places for anti-social behaviour.

*Bradford City Hall* and *Little Germany* (specifically on and around Hick Street and Cater Street) are some of the most used filming locations in the city centre, along with places like *Cartwright Hall* and *Undercliffe Cemetery* within a mile of the city centre which have also been used a lot. Name a period drama, and they will most likely have been filmed in one or more of those 4 locations. However just about every landmark in the city centre has been used for some type of filming, and I will most likely know what that filming was. I know of 1000s more *Bradford* productions (blockbusters and amateurs), and more locations, than the *City of Film* team.

I was born in Bradford 60 years ago. Bradford Royal infirmary. Lived in more than 40 different dumps, from rip,eyville, to Manningham lane, to holmewood and on an on.. it was a polish/Irish ghetto back then and of course was an entry city for the Asian revolution that took over Bradford. I grew up eating fish and chips, and a meat curry. When I lived on Hollingsworth terrace. Their was one toilet for the street, a brick outhouse with a stone slab for a toilet seat. We rode the trolley bus for 2D to the town center to get my Irish drunk dad from the unicorn pub, and my mum would frequent the Sunspot bingo while we waited.. it’s an immigrant city, the immigrants change, but Bradford will always be a dump.

It was actually the first purpose built mosque to be constructed in the city. Its congregation is predominantly of Bangladeshi origin, which reflects the population of that particular part of Bradford. If you had turned left when cycling up Manningham Lane, (instead of going right in the rough direction of the stadium) you may have seen the city’s last surviving working synagogue, dating from the 19th century. Still struggling on, but with a very small congregation these days. It’s beautiful inside.

It's hard to feel safe in a car in Bradford because there appears to be no law and order. I have lived here all my life and it gets worse year on year, mainly due to the council leaders we have that fail to accept or deal with the real issues the city has. They appear to actively promote degenerates to the expulsion of decent people.. I am a cyclist and wouldn't dream of going into Bradford, far too dangerous. You mention it seems quite run down and you are quite correct because the labour council has made it so that decent people can't come into the city that was once a great city. They have simply lost the plot and live in some sort of time warp where they think everything will be ok whilst the decent residents prefer to stay away and travel to Manchester or Leeds for shopping etc. It's very sad but the council continue to run the city down, make it unavailable for decent people and generally do an awful job. Unfortunately the problem with Bradford, in the main, is the inhabitants that the council fail to police hence the good people stay away. Very sad for what was once a great City and community, now turned into a cess pit with no order and a completely divided culture.

Born and bred in this City - left about 15 years ago and would not return for a pension. Sadly the major problem in Bradford is racism and I know it is not something we are supposed to mention but the facts are facts. You see the racism in Bradford maybe isn't the way you would imagine as it is reversed against the White population. The immigrant population were given help and support way beyond that offered to the Indigenous residents under the guise that, were it not so, it would be classed racist, and despite this they were happy to remain segregated. Add to this backing from successive corrupt Councils and a breeding plan which would put a herd of rabbits on Viagra to shame and you end up with a City of residents split way in excess of your estimate. As a young lad growing up in this City I had no idea what racism was and had lots of Asian mates at school but when you spend your life watching the 'immigrant' population being given all the advantages simply for fear of sparking a race row then, well it would make anyone think... I was out at The Pile Bar night club in the city on the night of the first riots and walked through Manningham as the local 'down trodden' residents set fire to car dealerships and threw petrol bombs at the police - the only white faces around there then were me and the coppers. Following this the police were accused of racism for trying to track down the culprits and bring them to justice for the millions of pounds of damage. Don't get me wrong, there are bad in both cultures - Peter Sutcliffe and The Black Panther to name but a few of Bradford's contributions, but the Asian population now in Bradford is mainly young males who believe that this World was built just for them and owes them anything they desire. Hence why you were surrounded by a multitude of 'Boy racers' who believe they have driving skills way beyond their small potato brains. They have no intention of integrating and in fact, ethnic cleanse any street they move into. I am afraid the older population have now lost control of these youths and the young only seem to want he parts of their and our culture they like. I am sure the haters will not like what I have said but if you are White, of a certain age and live in Bradford, please tell me that this is not true. This country used to pride itself on free speech so this is mine - Black, Brown, Chinese, Indian whatever.. Lives Matter of course, But so do the White ones, and we seem to be getting forgotten in all of this... Here endeth the sermon...!!!

Before I get into my comment on the tour... 1 - The reason that there's hardly any decent nightclubs in the city centre, is because a Manchester born, and Manchester/Newcastle/Watford based businessman, bought all the best Bradford nightclubs on Morley Street around 15 years ago, and has ruined them. He's done the same with most of the Yorkshire nightclubs he owns, yet coincidentally, his Newcastle, Greater Manchester, and Greater London nightclubs seem to be doing fine. He's constantly rebranding those clubs every couple of years, and because they've spent most of the last 15+ years closed, it's caused a domino effect which has led to all the neighbouring clubs in and around Morley Street to close too. 2 - Darley Street is empty of shops, because practically all of the shops which were there already, were planned for The Broadway, so they moved when it opened. I don't know who picks the shops, but I could have done a better job, not that I know anything about shops, as I'd have signed up a lot more rare shops, rather than the standard high street shops. The Oastler Shopping Centre (which is actually an indoor market) will soon be closing in the next few years, as they're relocating to Darley Street which is being redeveloped. And the countless mobile phone shops on Ivegate, mainly used to consist of bars and travel agents. Now for my comments on the tour... Where are the main shops? They're in *Kirkgate Shopping Centre* on your left at 0:13, they're in *Forster Square Retail Park* on the left and on the right at the bottom of the hill at 5:40 (which can also be accessed from the lift/stairs to *Forster Square Railway Station,* or the walkway to the left of the *Midland Hotel* entrance), they're in *The Broadway* which you rode around at 7:22. Where are the pubs/bars/nightclubs? I'm not really sure myself, however there's the bars in *City Park,* there's some nightclubs on the right around 3:59, there's some bars on *North Parade* aka the *Independent Quarter* which is straight forward at 6:06, there's some bars down *Ivegate* at 15:23, and there's some underground bars and shops in *Sunbridge Wells* also at 15:23 which can also be accessed in the gap between *Starbucks* and *Wetherspoons* in *City Park.*

They still claim to run 47 UK nightclubs on the website today. Yet now I've just looked at his LinkedIn profile where it says he runs 45 UK venues in the intro, then lower down it contradictory says he runs 32 UK venues. However it also says he's been working for the *Night Time Industries Association* since March 2015, which coincides with with the *Tokyo Industries* inactivity. The council is going to demolish the Kirkgate Centre which is why it looks run down. There is a significant Indian and Pakistani population in the city. In the 1950s a lot of cheap labour was imported from such places to work in the textile mills. Just about everywhere coming out of the city centre is uphill except for Canal Road going towards Shipley. The building you passed in the city centre is City Hall which is one of the few remaining examples of the fine architecture in the city. The city has lost many fine buildings such as the Swan Arcade and the original Kirkgate Market.

The surrounding areas to the centre where asian migrants settled have a thriving foodie scene mostly vibrant in the evenings and ofcourse the crazy bad driving from smart whip sucking balloon heads, that said like most of tge UK the drugs trade, scams, and fraudelant activity are prevalent here but the worst issue of this city is the division, too much racism from within, the outskirts of Bingley saltaire denholme baildon etc you'll find much more affluent. The islamophobia and racism is obvious reason this city has a bad rep. But for young hard working second geno muslim man this is a great city we have the obvious cons that exist everywhere but the pros are halal food and mosques on every corner and the areas of heaton have less riffraf i.e rest of central bradford is like working class mixed with chav sink estate people thus lack of investment creates a shthole.

Nice that you can cycle in the pedestrian areas. I noticed you managed not to run anyone over which my local council seem to think is inevitable.

It's years since I was in Bradford. Tbh, I think it looks better now than it did in the 1990s. It seems a bit empty though. The buildings look good and the architecture is very impressive.

Wrong. It was much cleaner, safer and lovelier back in the 90s. The original inhabitants were much friendlier, too. It's ugly and horrible nowadays, it's also been taken over by a new breed.

Jay, your camera is pointing down on the road. What we are seeing is the road and not the sight.

@@BadAppleBlues when I visited I thought the people were great. I asked a white homeless guy why he was begging outside a row of Asian fast food outlets and he said because the Muslims are the most generous.
