i straight was gonna make that same comment lol. like it was a nothing play but to grab a bouncing football turn and throw the ball away before stepping out of bounds of the defender reaching him was really impressive

They probably do a week of game prep that includes all possible oddities that could occur between the two teams.

The rule applies to players “running forward and leaping in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or Try Kick, unless the leaping player was originally lined up on the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.” Simmons was on the line and didn’t run forward. The Seahawks were lining up in an especially low stance, so at the snap, the rest of the Giants’ line stood up tall and pushed them down even lower while Simmons jumped.
