Imagine not blindly casting the combo card and having something like a Lantern of Insight up first. Maybe even just scry? I don’t know, I kind of feel like if you completely whiff a soulbeast it’s your fault.
@@MultiKbarry because playing lantern in your deck doesn’t mean your playing lantern control. Can lantern control really work in commander, because I don’t see why you’d play soulbeast outside of commander.
Actually built with a proper artifact deck it can essentially let one person at the table not play at all, and you get twice the turns. Was able to basically make a copy and kept populating the copy.
@@Grahdens The sheeple who only know how to build with EDH rec and not figure out how to make something interesting work don't get how cool that card can be.
@@Grahdens sure, it makes room for that. But when videos like this try to say the cards are terrible, it just shows the bias created by those kind of people. It's more about this kind of clickbait content than using EDH Rec at all or any other similar tool.
Honestly, Curse of Vengeance isn’t one I really use for its effect. It’s in my Lynde deck, and 90% of the time, I’m just going to sacc it so that it attaches to me and can then be transferred for free draws. That’s actually how I won a game recently. I stayed low, just providing some control, and kept saccing Curse of Vengeance with Claws of Gix until I drew into my more powerful pieces. By then, the other players were in a stalemate and my boardstate had been slowly buffed up and ignored. I just began flinging curses and played some powerful enchantments until both my opponents died.
Aeon Engine is busted in Kardur Doom scourge as his etb goads creatures until your next turn so activate it on the end step before your turn and now your opponents get another round of being goaded 😆
I mean... If you just wanted to skip your turn to goad things for longer, you might as well just use eater of days or lethal vapors or even chonatog... There's no need to go out of your way to put 10 mana into skipping your turn.
Loreseekers stone sounds SO cool for a burn deck, but its so terrible. If the ability started at 1 it might still be bad, but would be worth testing out.
Naya Soulbeast goes mad in big mana or devotion green. Makes it more likely that you will get at least 4+ counters from yourself and pair that with a scry effect. You're golden.
I... like Lorekeepers Stone I actively use it and get lots of worth out of it Then again, the deck it's in is an artifact deck that tries to not have more than a couple cards in hand
Aeon Engine should get a lot more credit than its given. If you have ways to make multiple copies of it, you can LITERALLY lock players out of the game by reversing the turn order on the turn of the player before them.
Probably in a Goad deck. The Nelly Borca Commander is great for making conditions where you make the players want or have to attack each other and not you.
Probably in a lifegain matters deck where you also run that black enchantment that says "if opponents would gain life, they lose that much life instead."
I think Aeon Engine has niches, one of which is to reverse the turn order if you're the one going right after the Blue Counterspell player. Not having to be the one to face the firing squad of answers first is definitely an upside.
I would love to see something like Curse of Vengeance, but affecting other player. Like f.e After player loses every other player draws X cards or something like that. Or maybe whenever any player loses the game the other players gain something. It could be pretty interesting.
I think a 8/8 Naya Soulbeast would be way too much. It’s often underwhelming if you don’t set up for it, but there are a lot of ways you can make sure it’s amazing.
I felt in love eith Loreseeker's Stone when i saw it the first time; then ... I added it in some non-green deck and even in an artifacts deck with LOTS of ways to reduce costs ... Result: junk, totally unplayable for like 95% of times
The white curse should have given (like maybe 2) 1/1s, thats something you can actually turn into an asymmetrical effect and has more impact/gives more decks a reason to run this card
I actually run Curse of Vitality in my Isshin Goad deck. Netting 12 life per turn rotation is wild. In a multiplayer game you completey out value your opponents.
Honestly, if you’re playing any super turtley combo deck that involves white, you could feasibly play curse of vitality on yourself to make you gain life whenever someone attacks you. Is there a better way to this? Yes, many in fact. Is it still technically a use case for the card? Yes, barely.
Ive done curse of vitality on myself in lifegain decks so when someone points out i have 60 life their going to end up triggering a few of my effects during combat like a nother chump blocker
I am playing Aeon Engine in my Brudiclad deck. Make a token copy of it, make all your treasures and stuff to Engines and your 4 player game becomes a 3 player game with you having twice the turns
Loreseeker’s stone is pretty darn good in mono decks/ my boros deck, i usually have 1 cards in hand with about 20 mana worth of rocks/land on the field mid game so it’s helped refill/dump/repeat my hand multiple times 😁
Most of the Thunder Junction precons were just pathetic with the only exception being the izzet deck. The Olivia precon was probably the worse with how basic and noninteresting it is despite how much potential it could have had as a Outlaw creature focused. I honestly just ordered the new outlaw focused singles in this deck and moved on
Most of these cards are just inefficient, giving you nowhere near enough payoff for the investment. At least Aeon Engine is a funny card to read, and an amusing premise. Yeah, it really doesn't do much, but literally no other black border card in the game does anything close to what it does.
I have actually made around engine a combo piece by making tokens of it to were in a 4 man pod only you and one other get to play the others are just stuck in limbo
And I had such high expectations for that precon, hoping that vampire murdu players would finally have an alternative to Edgar Markov. That Olivia only needed to have an extra word in her effect to make her usable in tribals.
So you’ve picked primarily cards printed before they shifted focus to designed all cards around commander when the format was niche and cards that made it into the format were off cuts from competitive formats. Nice.
@nickchaput219 it exiles itself. I use mechanized production and add a couple extra turn spells to ensure I have enough to always have 1 tapped 1 about to untap and 1 to use. Or add unwinding clock to always have them untapped.
Aeon Engine is really not that hard to use well. How many artifact untappers do we have in our artifact decks? Let's just go ahead and get that extra turn after only one opponent. It's not amazing, but it's far from "the worst yadda yadda." The click bait is high. Same with Curse of Vengeance. Just because people don't know how or when to use it doesn't mean it's bad. "Picking a loser turn one" isn't really what it's about. It's easy to combo out with Yawgmoth and get lots of value from this card as you KO your first victim and get back a bunch of life you paid. Oh and the Loreseekers stone is top heavy, but it really has been excellent at drawing big time in certain decks. I used it in Kurkesh who copies the ability, so your hand goes from 0 to 6 for 4 mana. Or you can use it in a Zirda deck to draw 3 for 1 from an empty hand. The lack of imagination or just the desperate attempt at click bait is outrageous.
