I actually liked the MK11 roster, but what I REALLY hated is that they had Ermac's coolest design and they just used him as a cutscene on the Krypt where he immediately dies.
They shafted the Kondiment Killers two games in a row and didn't even throw an updated Tri-borg into Mk11. That's what pissed me off the most, Tri borg was a cool concept for the game and was quite literally 4 different characters in one
@@ZyroVfx But then didn't do much with them after. Cyrax and Sektor played a part right to the end in the original timeline. Cyrax joining the special forces, helping Nitara free her realm. Sektor having his rivalry with Kuai Liang over control of the Lin Kuei, forming the Tekunin. Personally I don't think having human versions makes up for the lack of everything else.
Mk3 was one of my favorite rosters ever. Kabal and cyrax were the best new characters to ever debut in any mk game. That's my favorite and only time I loved kuai liang as sub zero. Was amazing seeing him with no mask, we had the coolest suprise seeing motaro as a sub boss, everybody was amazed when we seen him in arcades. They were also ballsy as fuck by not having scorpion. They added combos as well and animalities. The game was also the start of the super hidden unlockables.
My biggest complaint about mkx/mk11 roster is that in mkx -a game with a dark and gloomy tone-revenant characters have a human/alternate reality versions as their default that isn’t even in story Then we have mk11 ,a game with colorful tone, and the we have roster that is half gray. In this game the human versions exist and would’ve looked better but someone said “hey, let’s make the char select screen look half dead. And don’t forget that the revenants in mkx looked way better with the outfits and yellow veins
Mk4 and mkx was the darkest stories along with deception. All the characters were dead in mk x and deception and facing someone stronger than shao Kahn in both stories. With Onaga he almost merged all the realms had he succeeded and shinnok already did nearly destroy all the elder gods normal gods and destroy all the realms in his own power no kamidogu so they both had extreme stories. ONAGA is actually supposed to be a good outworld emperor and ruler similar to kotal Kahn but more efficient and good unlike shaonkahn. It wasn’t until Kahn became emperor outworld became cold dark evil and rotted under his rule. Onaga was supposed to treat outworld well in his original story. Meanwhile shinnok is colder than shao Kahn or Onaga and his mk4 endings made him seem extremely cold and like a psycho where everyone’s under him and originally they all were under him but after his original defeat he lost his power however had he had his full power in games he’s swat shao Kahn swat like a fly. Mk onslaught even mentions shaonkahn would be powerless to stop shinnok once he regains his stripped elder god power once again. Onaga also made a refrence thst if shinnoks plan went through to return to his original elder god full power then Onaga himself would be amongst the dead himself so it’s already been said shinnok is stronger than them IF he is at his original full power as a Full elder god, which has always been his goal to return to his power and what’s crazy it’s his power not a power up imagine if a full power elder god that nearly destroyed all the other elder gods and gods on his own had the power of the kamidogu on top Of that then he’d be even stronger than Onaga with the kamidogu as the kamidogu is the only reason why he surpassed shinnok and shao Kahn in deception. Onaga on his own can still swat away quan chi and Shang Tsung gbut mlt shinnok or shao Kahn in Armageddon
@@skullshot8438 no, bad idea, the artstyle of MKX is fucking abysmal there is a reason they dropped it, some costumes were well designed but the color scheme was bad, everything was brown and grey which took away from the visuals. MK9 and MK11 have some of the best artstyle in the entire series, Netherrealm absolutely killed it with MK11 when it came to visuals, top of the industry for sure and pretty much everyone can agree to that. you can have a game that is dark in it's story and enviroment while also having good colors and visuals and MKX is not a good example of that.
Mk 11 revs legit all had a human versions. What the hell you talking about? We arnt talking about its look we hate we are talking about the characters themselves.
the funniest thing about MK Armageddon is that the character select screen is divided into groups, so your characters are easy to find. So for example, all the male ninjas are in one row (even Chameleon lol) There's the boss row on the bottom that has Shao Kahn, Onaga, Goro etc...and then you see Meat just hanging out at the end lmfao. Always cracked me up
This game is dogshit. Every character has mostly the same strikes, bloated ass roster. Terrible kreate make our own was just rubbish, looking at the selection screen was better than playing this basic batch ass game. I'm a huge mk fan, as a teen I was their at da arcades when this blew da F up. So when armageddon was announced I lost my shit when they said over 60 characters. I gets da game and lobbed like crazy, I quickly found out the air combos are all the same bs, the ground combos are dang near identical, this game got absolutely destroyed by true fans who have love for this series. A massive disappointment since MK wack asf 4. That game sucked gorillas left nut from da back. That game I threw out my window. And armageddon I threw into my thrash. Konquest was fun but forgettable. The character endings were hilarious stupid. Darius death is brilliant, so many characters endings sucked too. I would have thought netherealms would have paid attention and made every character feel completely different. ultimate mortal kombat 3 has massive roster and they feel different. Deadly alliance had 3 whole ass different styles, same with deception. Mk11 is just on another level, MK 9 is just balling and styling despite it being busted asf, MK11 is just great gameplay wise but sucked with single player and online content. Felt kinda bare bones compared to MK9 which had the best online single player and two player content. MK1 2023 brought back reiko who is bad ass striker and grappler type, Having who is a working nightmare horror show. Dude literally rips his own head off, rips off his on arm, rips his own heart out, has an command grap where he literally vomits his own blood into his opps mouth, cringe and sickening are an understatement when talking about Havik, He is bad ass but seriously funked up. Ashrah is cool and looks hella basic. But she top tier and has some sick ass mix ups from her lauch and cyrax and sonic Kames launchers. Fanboys and shills are over praising MK1. But the real fans point out the 1st player has actual timing difference advantage to player 2. Also the kameo system is the poor mans version of an whole ass old game called marvel vs capcom 2. Nobody asked for Kames system. What we wanted was tag feature from the older games, And kombat league features, king of the hill, lobbies. We got barebones instead. Hopefully next year neatherealms adds these features in. And puts John Wick and The Mask in this game.
Oh yeah homie, hopefully they make all kameo's playable and make the main roster be playable kameos, because a fellow nerd actually discovered that the main roster can actually be played as he found out on his PC via data mining and hacking, Neatherealms actually have this feature in the code of the game. But locked it. Because maybe they will unlock it later possibly.
@@willdiesel8431 Midway was never safe. Netherrrealm stays safe no matter what. Guest characters are always a negative because it's just for profit and wastes space for actual mk fighters
@@Amp661 I already explained why they were safe. Do you not think atleast a handful of characters who debuted in Deception were filler because they couldn't do better in terms of design? Safe characters cut both ways. The nostalgic choice and the utterly useless choice.
3D games weren't afraid to take risks. Compare them to the NRS games, who always go back to the MK2 characters for every single game. But that doesn't mean they should introduce new characters anymore. I think there's plenty now and it's getting crowded. They should go back and flesh out some of the weaker characters instead that were introduced in the 3D era like Kobra, Hsu Hao, Kira, Darrius, Dairou, etc.
The roster for MK3 suffered because of contractual issues behind the scenes with the actors portraying the male and female ninjas. This eventually lead to John Turk and Becky Gable filling in for those characters in UMK3. Also, Daniel Pesina, a.k.a. "Johnny Cage" broke his contractual agreement by promoting another fighting game. This would lead to his brother Carlos Pesina being cut from the game, a.k.a. "Raiden," due to his contract expiring. Carlos would later return full time to do nearly all of the motion capture for Midway during the 3D era. Edit: Daniel Pesina is the original actor who portrayed Scorpion. He never returned to the franchise after MK2. Midway also had to settle a lawsuit for money owed to the actress who played "Kitana." Ed Boon would later be quoted as saying that they only put UMK3 out "to keep the arcades fresh." It was never a question of memory limitations, just office politics.
Aparrantly the Johhny Cage thing isn't true. The actor said on twitter he was cut because there wasn't enough space, I assume it's the same story for the other characters.
Cyborg Smoke was actually in the original MK3 roster. He was the secret character in the center. Having played every MK game since the original I agree with you that MK3's roster was probably the most disappointing. I remember when it got released Sub-Zero was the only one of my favorite characters to make it -and he looked kinda dorky. That did force me to learn some new characters that I might not have used otherwise. Kabal for instance was a lot of fun. My favorite roster was probably MK Trilogy. I believe it had every MK character up to that point.
@@TrueUnderDawgGaming Yes, absolutely. Cyber Smoke could only be unlocked with one of those tedious Kombat Kodes that required both players to initiate.
@@TrueUnderDawgGaming hey i am new to your channel i want to give you heads up there r people using your profile pictures to let us contact them which are scammers of course can you warn your subscribers to not trust them anywhere too
@@TrueUnderDawgGaming yes, you may have gotten an answer to this question already by now but cyber smoke was a hidden character by virtue of a Kombat cold in the original arcade cabinet and a certain code or button input in the home version of the game at the time. I may have mentioned this in one of my comments earlier in the trend, but the reason why the original version of Mortal Kombat 3 was so bare Bones was because they filed a lawsuit against Midway for royalties from the first two games. And Daniel Pesina(Cage, All Ninjas) was fired for for endorsing openly a knock off Mortal Kombat clone of sorts called bloodstorm which was basically a sequel to a game called timekillers (look those up lol). That is what led to an all the cast for Mortal Kombat 3 and a deadline had to be met so the product was rushed. As you noticed, no ninjas male or female appeared in the vanilla version of the game. And about six months later ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was released.
I actually love Deception's roster because it shows how much stakes were raised in comparison to previous game. Characters like Kung Lao, Kitana, Johnny, Sonya and Jax are dead. There are only few characters who survived encounter with Deadly Alliance and I like the idea of older, long time no-seen characters coming back to help fight Onaga. But yeah, newcomers were kinda meh (with few exceptions). Also, Bo Rai Cho brought much needed comedic relief in times when MK was getting really dark, so I'll always have soft spot for him. Anyway, I like when rosters make some bold changes. I understand having 3 or 4 characters in every game, but there's no need to constantly bring back around dozen same characters over and over again. That's also the reason why SF3 (along with it's updated versions) is my favourite Street Fighter game - simply because of how unique and different it was compared to other entries.
@@Folurby MK3, though, didn't give any explaining as to where characters like Scorpion, Reptile or Baraka went. They did explain Raiden's, Johnny's and Kitana's absence at least.
SF 3 sold like crap when it launched. Thats why it took so long to do a SF 4. Continuity in the roster choices do matter. There were 3 or 4 characters in SF 3 that didn't make sense. And it took them 3 versions of SF 3 before they added Chun Li back in the game. Chun Li is an Iconic character in SF. Not having her from the beginning in SF 3 hurt the game. She didn't appear on the roster until SF 3 Third Strike.
@@Damackism Still, I liked the game much more than the others. In my opinion, hating on game just because certain character is absent is idiotic. Also, just out of curiosity - which characters didn't make sense?
@@whyareyoureadingmynickname8158 The hate was earned. Games series succeed by catering to its fan base. Not the small number of people who just like things to be totally different. SF 2 was an iconic game. All thise characters are iconic. Some more than others. SF 3 came out about 5 or 6 yrs after SF 2. So many fighting games were released un the 90,s that people were getting burnt out. But for some odd reason foghting game developers were trying to hard to change things up. I can understand why. But the change was too drastic. Capcom also felt they they were slowly losing in the arcades to other fighting game franchises taking up cabinet space. To recoup the losses of SF 3 Capcom just started reusing old sprites in games like Capcom vs SnK series and Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Marvel vs Capcom 2 kinda saved Capcoms ass in the arcades. Before arcades died. The 4 characters are Q, Remy,Sean, and Twelve. 3 of the characters looked like they belonged in a KOF game. Sean was a very poorly made Shoto knock off.
@@Damackism I still do think that drastic changes can pay off big time. Just look at Tekken 2 and Tekken 3. First was hugely popular game, yet the latter only included like 5 or 6 characters from 2 and is still considered to be one of best, not only Tekken, but fighting games period. Maybe SF3 would have been better received if they kept at least a few more classic characters beyond Ryu, Ken and Akuma, but I still stand by saying that only 5 or 6 characters at maximum should have reserved spot in every game. Having about 10 or 12 same characters over and over again just feels tiresome. And I also think that fans would be willing to accept these big changes in roster if anyone would dare to take them. But, then again, game should also introduce cool new characters to mitigate for ones that are removed. As for those four, I honestly didn't mind Sean that much. He felt like a fresh take at shoto formula, but he was unfortunately butchered in Third Strike.
I didn't get to play MK 11 until I bought MK 11 Ultimate on Steam... so this video was literally the first time I saw the MK 11 original roster before all the DLCs. I was floored! Being used to the full MK 11 roster, the original looked seriosly tiny!
In my hometown arcade the original Mortal Kombat 3 got played for a couple days and then EVERYONE went back to Mortal Kombat II. No one played Mortal Kombat 3 until the Ultimate upgrade was made available. We all said the same things. No Scorpion, no Kitana, no Mileena.
Yah I remember when 3 came out I was super disappointed. I loved all the Ninja's as well as Raiden and Baraka and only Sub-Zero made it on the roster. UMK3 is what MK3 should have been at release.
Mk3 was my first and I was amazed. I actually did the reverse after playing mk1 and 2 a little later, and went back to 3. The apocalyptic theme of mk3 plus the combo system immediately won me over over mk1 and 2 because it was harder to master.
No fair: I actually enjoyed Deception. I loved the Konquest, Puzzle Kombat and Chess Kombat modes. I love most of the newcomers: Havik, Shujinko, Hotaru, and Bo Rai Cho are legit cool characters that I could see returning in a new entry. Plus the endings were great, Sindel's being the best as it shows her being a great mother who has finally got her redemption and not a gild digger (*Death stares at Mk11 Aftermath Story Mode*)
People loved the ninjas, it's the palette swapping that came off as over the top and lazy. 60% of the roster in UMK3 was essentially a male ninja, female ninja and a cyber ninja in different colors.
So? It's always been that way. Red = Ermac (A being composed of many souls, although the dominant soul in him is supposed to be King Jared, Sindel's original Edenian husband & Kitana's biological father), Sketor (The original Lin Kuei Grandmaster's son who slays his father to become commander of the Cyber Lin Kuei) & Skarlet (a foundling taken in by Shao Khan who learned blood magic that longs to supplant Sindel as her adopted father figure's new wife [Eww]) Orange = Tremor (To be fair, the ninja gifted with earth-bending abilities is more beige than he is orange, but he's the closest thing to an actual orange ninja) Yellow = Scorpion (Hanzo's hell-spawn specter form) & Cyrax (The "mustard" to Sketor's "ketchup", although Cyrax was converted into an unfeeling, murderous machine against his will, whereas Sketor embraced becoming a killer robot, which typically leads to Cyrax often initiating his self-destruct programming to permanently destroy the hive mind network that connects all Cyber Lin Kuei together in a heroic self-sacrifice) Green = Reptile (his real Zatarran name is Seizoth) and Jade (Kitana's best friend/surrogate sister & future girlfriend of Kotal Khan) Gray = Human Smoke (Tom before devolving into the evil entity Enenra) Blue = Sub-Zero (original paid assassin Bi-Han & his nobler younger brother Kuai Lang) as well as the Kuai Lang's hot-headed female pupil Frost added later on in MK4 (all of whom are or were cyromancers [which means they've powers over ice, snow, and other winter weather]) Indigo = Kitana (the crown Princess of Edenia, the forcibly adopted daughter of Outworld conqueror Shao Khan, the biological daughter of Queen Sindel, the girlfriend/waifu of Shaolin Monk/MK Champion/NetherRealm Emperor/Fire God Liu Kang, the "sister" of Mileena, and the eventual Khan of Outworld after she defeated her tyrant "father" Shao Khan & Kotal Khan willingly surrendered the throne) Magenta = Mileena (Kitana's "sister" who's actually the bloodlthirsty sensuous monstrous creation of the EarthRealm sorcerer Shang Tsung made from 98% Kitana's DNA & 10% Baraka's DNA [since Baraka is the only intelligent one of his kind that can command all others beneath him], yet because Mileena basically has the mind of a precocious teenager trapped in a beautiful adult woman's body with the ferocity of Baraka's species [as shown, courtesy of her mouth full of fangs], Mileena's thoughts & actions are often childish as well as hedonistic in nature) Violet = Rain (obviously a blatant nod to musical artist Prince, given the whole "Purple Rain" motif with a corresponding color scheme & water-based powers, but despite the silly explanation for his name & skill set, Rain is actually a demigod as one of the 3 sons of Edenia's Protector God Argus & his wife Delilah, with his half-brothers Taven & Daegon hand-picked to be the ones to battle over the power harnessed by reality disrupting fire elemental Blaze, but in the end, none of the 3 ever ascend to the potential laid out for them, as Daegon ends up becoming the leader of the Red Dragon criminal organization that rivals Kano's Black Dragon cartel just to die during the final conflict of MK: Armageddon in a brief passing mention, Taven ends up failing in his mission as the chosen hero of MK: Armageddon's Konquest Mode, and Rain ends up siding with Outworld over his own home world of Edenia after Shao Khan invaded & conquered Edenia to absorb it into Outworld) Black = Noob Saibot (Shadow wraith version of Bi-Han) & Enenra (Smoke completely consumed by his evil vapor form) Rainbow = Khameleon (A highly probable female Zatarran who basically wants to breed with Reptile to restore their raptor race) AND Chameleon (another possible male Zatarran & Khamelon's possible brother, since that provides reasoning for why Khameleon goes after Reptile rather than the male Chameleon, because we already have creepy incest with Skarlet wanting to become the new wife of her adopted father figure Shao Khan)
@@TherealRNOwwfpoohthat’s how they started. But then they got backstories and different motifs in their designs. Like Ermac being a mummy or Scorpion having chains on him.
Im really disappointed how they did my boy Smoke. He always seems to serve a pretty important role, even if its minor. They just cut his story short with no resolution to my knowledge.
Because NRS suck at writing. Even with their new Ideas they just go bak on it most the time... While some of the newer people like Kittlesen shoved his stupid romance stuff like he did with Jade and Kotal, or the Titans and Time stuff that imo shouldn't of been a thing in Mk9.
Well also part of the reason why we didn't see scorpion in mk3 roster was because the actor who did the motion capture for scorpion reptile sub-zero and johnny cage was fired
Such great memories from armageddon. Characters all being able to toggle between weapons, the 3rd person action mode, the mariokort-like mini game, the fatalaties that were definitely not meant for my 6 years old eyes,...
In MK9 and MKX the character roster was perfectly balanced when it came to character selection of both legacy and next gen but as for MK11 is missing something plus there were some spots left to be filled
2:28 Hotaru is a character with a brutal design, Havik is undoubtedly the most acclaimed character of the 3d era, they even ask for the return of Ashrah to the new MK. Noob Smoke is an incredible duo, the usual ones, like Raiden, Scorpion and sub zero always fit together, there are only 4 to 5 understandably hated characters from that roaster, it's impossible for it to be one of the worst. I'm talking about deception
New game rosters will always have complaints because someone's favorite is missing, and everyone is someone's favorite character. I used to think some characters had no fans, and then I found out Abel has at least three. Much more than I was expecting.
I remember getting Mortal Kombat 3 (vanilla) on Genesis and man... First thing I said was... no Scorpion? No... Johnny Cage? It was insane to me. But I still loved the Cyrax and Sektor. MK3 was not without its gems.
Mk3 was amazing (even without scorpion) I'm not a huge fan of him anyway. It's because of mk3 that my number one fav character, Sektor, became the ultimate badass to me.
I loved Deception's roster honestly. Maybe cause it was my introduction to the series XD I still hope to see them revamp characters like Darrius, Kobra, and Dairou....I also want them to bring back Havik, but more importantly Onaga. Definitely my favorite big bad.
What i would kinda like to see mk12 do is what mka did with its roster but actually take the time to develop the characters and give them depth to their playstyle. But its hard to say especially not knowing which ending was canon
3:20 I will always say Dairou has a great design. He looks like he's straight out of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or some other Wu Tang movies. He's got that Chinese master look and he can easily be few thousand years old in MK. This totally fits with the games' aesthetic. I also liked his teleport that swaps you and your oppenent and in games where you can kick someone off the map, that's nice. Problem with Dairou was his story, in that, he barely had any. He just hates Orderrealm rules for not letting people have fun or something like that. Bring him back and do turn him into this wandering master looking for a disciple, only no one ever lives up to his expectations, so he's kinda always bored of people challenging him.
So most of the cuts in MK3 happened due to legal issues. The actors sued Midway because they weren't paid royalties for the home console releases of MK1&2, so the actors quit. The actors that played the ninjas, including Scorpion, Raiden, Kitana, and Milenna all left and could not be replaced in time. I imagine too that was why they changed Sub Zero's look for MK3. Granted, they could have given Scorpion a skull face or something, but what can ya do.
Deception was an interesting roster because some worthwhile characters like tanya, Jade, Sindel, nightwolf, etc got brought back. But it was kind of balanced out by some incredibly bland and forgettable new characters.
You were actually a teeny bit wrong with the Armageddon rsoter. Yes, you're right, everyone who was playable at least once returned, however, Khameleon was only playable on the Wii version, which is... Interesting.
The reason why there was no ninja characters in MK3 is because Dan Pesina who played the ninjas in the 1st 2 games got sacked during production, so they decided to leave them out due to time constraints. That was the rumour anyhow.
I wasn’t a big fan of Deception’s roster myself when it first game out, but part of that was jumping straight from MK4 to this game, so I didn’t quite get the relevance of the characters they chose. The other was unlocking the rest of the characters. Still, after I look back on it from having played Armageddon, I still wondered why they bothered making Ashrah; given her backstory and relevance to the plot, they could’ve just replaced her with Sareena and nobody could tell the difference.
Nah. Ashrah's bio is what inspired me to "softly" come out to my friend - atter talking about "strange exhilaration" enough times, she finally got the hint. 😉🤫
Armageddon is the best one to ever exist I enjoyed it so much in my Wii! It's easily the best one! I hear people say that kreate a fatality was bad whereas I enjoyed how different ways you can kill your opponent rather than traditional annoying input fatalities
You need to play more games lol. The fighting was terrible and characters were copy and paste gameplay wise. Maybe the mini games were fun, but the core gameplay was doo doo.
@@SilkyLew It wasn't Doo Doo at all? I have played nearly every MK game, SF games, MVC games So many bro but anyways MK Armageddon's gameplay was amazing! I loved the combos and air combos! I give it a 10/10
@RuhabDabeer Ok, you have to be trolling. You give it a 10 out of 10? And for the Wii, where it had even more shortcomings? I would've believed you if you said 6 or 7 out of 10.
@cookiedoughbro5252 How am I stopping him from enjoying anything? He claimed Armageddon is the best MK so I disagree heavily. If he just said it was his favorite then I have nothing to say.
There's also the fact MKX and MK11 designed and programmed characters that you can only fight in story mode, but never bothered making them playable. So it's also like an added bonus of salt in the wound left by having those characters removed.
If we ever see a roster the size of Armageddon again you can totally expect the game to cost hundreds of dollars after all the separate kombat packs lol
I didn't like MK 3 in general and the roster was just a part of that. I didn't like the none ninja look for Sub-Zero. Cyborgs were fun and of course it introduced Sindel which was a plus but something still felt off about it.
I got a soft spot for Deception's roster. My boy Kenshi's there, along with Sub-Zero, Ermac, Shao Khan and Kabal. I even like Dairou, I want to see him built on and improved.
MKIII's and Deception's rosters are why I've been fine with the recent games' rosters even if I love the characters that got left out. It could be SO SO much worse. Younger fans will never understand that struggle and the perfection of Ultimate's roster which IMO have never been beaten.
No matter how the rosters looked and what sort of characters they included, I only ever cared about Reptile being in it. I started with Trilogy on the N64, so I didn't experience vanilla MK3's roster cut. Deception didn't have him, but I excused it because he was actually being used for Onaga's body according to his Deadly Alliance ending and Sindel's Deception ending, so he was TECHNICALLY still in it. But now, MK11 decides to cut him again, but this time for no good reason that it made me really sad to see them make the next big MK with beautiful graphics, and I can't even play as my favorite dinosaur ninja in it. Like hell, they brought back Rain as DLC, AGAIN, but not Reptile. At least it made me pick up Skarlet instead, who I never really liked in MK9, but she's much better in MK11. So now, I hope MK12 has both Skarlet AND Reptile back. All's I want.
I think MKX's roster was pretty good; I think it was pretty ridiculous to just expect it to be a rehash of MK9's just with some new characters added. My only real problems with it is that Rain and Fujin should have been in it instead of MK11. Rain actually had a story role in X but he misses out on being playable and instead gets to be a DLC character with no story role for _two_ Netherrealm MK games now, which is a complete waste.
the constant baits in the krypt makes me not miss the krypt as much as i thought i would. at launch, mk11 definitely had the worst roster. and tbh, a few dlc characters looked neat but i never touched (Fujin, Nightwolf, etc) also MK11 and MK1 are straight up afraid of boobs
After all the complaints about rosters in MK4, MKG, MKDA and MKD, the producers were like, 'Screw the quality, let's just go all out and throw everyone into MKA.'
I know it's coming from a place of nostalgia but I liked MK3. Ultimate code unlocked Smoke, Smoke was essentially Scorpion with Sektor's teleport. I loved Cyrax and I actually didn't mind Sub-Zero being unmasked. Most of all I remember the memories of playing this at the arcade, a lost experience today.
Honestly i wish that MK just did what KoF does, Asset flip a majority of the stuff and add onto it, meaning for older characters they just need too update Fatal Blows and Fatalities and can add more characters
You´re right! I was a huge MK fan until MK3 was revealed. I hated everything about it, but the roster was the worst. No Raiden, no Scorpion, a non ninja Sub-Zero, no Reptile, no Kitana, and no Mileena! Guys that freaked out because no Mileena on 11, imagine no ninjas on a MK game! Some of those new characters became fan favorites later, but c´mon! I never played a MK after this betrayal.
Tbh, 11 got really close. I don't care for Cyber Sub, but 11 was 8 characters off from having the roster be at perfection. But dumb sht like kollector happens and I would have even traded Jacqui and Cassie for Keptchup and Mustard. But agree. Base roster should always, ALWAYS, be MK9. Excluding DLC.
MK3 was the first MK game for me and I loved the roster. I guess people coming from MK2 might have been disappointed, but as a newcomer I thought it was excellent. For me, the worst roster award goes to MK4.
Does anybody not know of the dlc in mk11?!? Rain, mileena, sheeva, shao, frost, And other guest characters are also here. Not to mention but this video came out in 2023 so of course the dlc already came out. And yes ashrah did come back in mk12
Blaze was NOT a new character in Armageddon. He debuted in Deadly Alliance, he was unlocked the same way as Mokap, beat every Konquest mission. The difference was he was the boss of Armageddon. Also, he was retconned to have been that “character on fire” in the background of that one arena in MK2 known as “The Pit II.” The only new characters in Armageddon were Daegon and Taven. I agree on Hotaru, Havik, Ashrah, and especially Shujinko, all to me are overhated.
it's weird... no one remembers the fact that mortal kombat 3 got rid of the ninjas and Johnny Cage, not for the haters, but for a problem with the actor who played them (Daniel Pesina) got fired after some problem about sponsoring an other fighting game with the appearence of Johnny Cage or something like that.
On Cassie in MK11 I hate her design its just younger Sonya. The cool thing about her in X was that her design echoed the fact she’s Johnny’s and Sonya’s daughter. In 11 she just looks so generic
The reason I hated the MKX roster was because it was, one, the first MK game I had and two, it excluded the two biggest villains: Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung. I realize that, at this point, both are dead but it was still a poor introduction to the series for me.
Meh I liked mk3 vanilla. The only thing I am divided on is the animality’s. The original ones were like neon, then in umk3 they used more realistic animals. Mk3 dropped the more Asian tournament feeling. Bo rai Cho I love also
Mk3 is amazing. I liked all finishers, characters and moves, but the one thing that bugged me was not enough time to input secret codes on the vs screen.
You know I really believe what they did is good for the variety of it because a lot of the characters from the mortal Kombat games would be just lore now if they weren’t playable and I think the devs didn’t want to make the game repetitive and boring because let’s be honest after 11 games you would be bored if the roster was the same
MK9 having almost all the ninjas and then every game after losing most of them is always gonna disappoint me. White haired Smoke was so cool. im thankful my favorite Noob still came around but his costume was just so awful in mk11
