THE WORST RV CAMPING ETIQUETTE EVER [RVing Full Time]
ℹ️ About this episode:
If you what our channel then you know that we are huge Boondocking fans. This weeks video is all about some of the worst RV camping etiquette we have ever seen. It's a fact, the US Forest Service is closing down sections of National Forests due to abuse and overcrowding.. Areas of the Coconino National Forest and Prescott National Forest are prime examples. Let me ask, as you rangers patrol, you do know who was where, what condition the area was in before and after they left. You know who the trouble makers are while they are there. I see it when I am out, doesn't take a college degree.Why in sam hill is this not being taken care of? You know who the trouble makers are. I actually got arrested confronting a punk littering after HE CALLED THE COPS ON ME! talk about total BS! America is going to hell, government just sitting back and letting it happen. Total pissed and fed up with bureaucracy.

@@flatbedtruckingsamrides.9355 yes its getting rediculous.. years ago..my daughter just got a new bike we kept in our apartment. Two kids from another area in the complex decided they were going to force my daughter to allow them to take it for a ride and disappear..i could tell by their actions.. i let the kids know as he forced his way in front of her that we did not know them and she just got the bike so we were not loaning it out. Once i got the child off her bike without touching either one by saying my daughter is going to ride it around once first the other kid backed off. And my daughter rode it to the tree and back. I said its lunch time and we are going in now. That got me a visit, but luckily after i explained that we live here and my daughter was trying out the bike when they asked to ride and tried forcing her off the bike. I was sitting in a folding chair. Till i got up to go in the house and my daughter took the bike inside. Fortunately the truth was accepted and the kids were told to stay away from our section, but at the beginning it could have gone either way.

We make it a point to also carry bags and bags of garbage with every stop. SUGGESTION: Arizona, as one of the greatest boondocking states in the USA, would benefit from having taxpayer and federal grant paid state-wide garbage dumpsters positioned at rest areas and popular camping areas. Id pick up even more garbage voluntarily. Problem is once I have it, I end up having to slowly redistribute it to a number of garbage cans as I boondock about and travel across country.

@@Roobah I agree as I saw this past November when I was out on Federal Land in Michigan I saw that somebody had lived at a site which I'm assuming was hunters and they left it a complete mess I would have personally been happy to clean it up just so that that area can still be used by people but there was no place for me to dump the garbage and I was driving an SUV that did not have the room to hold any garbage if there were garbage facilities available on Federal Land I do believe that more people would be willing to do the right things when they are out unfortunately I also know that people would be dumping their garbage there instead of paying for their trash removal at their homes

Yeah, but it is funny how the young people are the people I see caring more about leaving our forests pristine and the old farts that often don't seem to care. Obviously, I am not talking about you, and I am probably the same age as you, but there are a lot more young people doing more for the planet than there are old people. All I hear from most old people is them complaining about the young people.
@SASEntertainment
@SASEntertainment 4 года назад
S.J. Bruner this is what I see as well, the younger generation seem to care for the land and seem more involved with their children enjoying the great outdoors. I see older people that are more disrespectful to other campers, leaving behind trash and overall making forest rangers and volunteers jobs more difficult. We are in our mid 30s and we camp with a few other families in their 30s and our parents and grandparents taught us how to treat others and this land with respect, but we have dealt with quite a few older groups that we’ve literally had to clean up after and keep our distance from because of their lack of respect. This happens with all age groups and demographics and we all need to help educate and be the example for others. We have actually stopped boon docking because of the people we’ve encountered.
@RiverWoods111
@RiverWoods111 4 года назад
@@SASEntertainment Exactly, although I am in my 50's I am originally from California and well as you know we have a reputation for being Green Monsters for a lack of any other word! LMBO! I still prefer to take my own bags to the store even though I am in the south now, and I drink from large washable insulated cups with metal or silicon straws and yes, I am sure my neighbors just shake their head at me, but I am just so used to doing so and it feels so much better to do so! Once you get accustomed to it. I deliver groceries and then obviously I have to use plastic bags because I don't have enough cloth bags to give away, but I am amazed at how many people drink from single use water bottles still. Do you know what happens to your water when it sits in the heat in those things? :o

Back in late May, we headed to Colorado BLM land where we have been camping for the past 8-9 years. We encountered THE WORST campers ever! The area we were in is surrounded by ATV trails and in the past we have always seen riders use trail etiquette and respect for other campers. This time, we had a rider who insisted on using the trails as his own personal dirt bike racetrack and he proceeded to tell us that if we didn't like it, then we shouldn't be there. The trails that he was racing around were impacting at least 6 other campsites. We tried to reason with him and explain that the lands are free to everyone and the trail was not intended to be used as a racetrack. He proceeded to get belligerent with us and told us to wait until morning when he would start racing at 6am. The next morning at 6am, he was out racing! He woke up every campsite! Everyone on the loop was trying to make him stop, but he wouldn't. Everyone made calls to the Sheriff's Dept. (it took 5-6 hours for the Sheriff to show up, due to low staffing as you mentioned and they were responding to other calls). The Sheriff was able to talk to the guy and the behavior stopped! We were all shocked that it had come down to needing to make a call to the Sheriff. One RUDE camper/rider ruined everyone's weekend! ALL of us have the responsibility to RESPECT our camping neighbors and the land. Pack it in, pack it out! Leave no trace! Do your part!

The wife and I live across the road from a large lake. Weekends can bring 100s of camper trailers tents and motor homes. Nearly every rule is broken by at least ten pr weekend! We’ve seen all and more at the lake. Even electric fences! It saddens us to know that this is a national trend. I ask of everyone to do what they can to confront this trend and help improve the etiquette that was the norm. So many places have been closed and so many more will follow as disrespectful and inconsiderate behavior goes unchecked! I personally have had my life threatened and been pursued by as many as six campers at a time for standing up for what is right! I need a cane to walk so it doesn’t take much to out pace me. Last week we were boondocking with friends up near Big Lake in an area we had all to ourselves. Late one evening as the sun was setting, a camper van pulled in right behind our friends camper, we text our friends from our camper, none of us knew them, we armed up and stepped outside. A woman and her dog were standing outside the van, I approached to ask if we could help her, as I did her dog started to attack, I drew my weapon and she called the dog back. I asked her if we could help her, we had no idea at this point if there was anyone else in the camper van, she said she wanted to camp with us!!! Again, not knowing who else was in the camper van, we asked her to leave as there were millions of acres to camp. This may sound cruel to some, I’m sure the comments will reflect that, but as a retired police officer I will suggest if this ever happens to you, don’t trust anyone!!! The couple in Texas a few months back trusted a couple (guess when campers see a woman they think it’s okay), they were killed, their camper and truck were stolen and later found with the murderers in Mexico! Be friendly but TRUST NO ONE!!!

We totally agree Cindy. We have had this happen on a couple of occasions with older people but we chalked it up to them wanting to feel safer. Thankfully you didn't have to dispatch the dog! Yikes! I live on the North West coast of Australia. Our winter is the perfect temp. This year we have seen a dramatic increase in campers. We have a beach north and south. The north beach had a community clean up day because it had so much rubbish. The clean up was conducted on land and by divers in the sea. The south had to be closed because of rubbish everywhere plus people driving on the sand where the turtles lay their eggs. Lots of nests have been crushed.

Imagine all those extra RVs needing maintenance on their propane installations in a few short years and a large portion of them not getting it... Imagine standing next to one of those risk takers while they have an accident and the whole rig is going up one bad afternoon. I never again go anywhere near a camping a large camp ground, municipal rv parking areas or parking lots where the so called rv maintenance "experts" hang out and park their bombs on wheels within feet or my van. I camp isolated and very much out of the way of everybody, preferably undetected and über stealthy. I just don't want anybody snugging up on me and my van to potentially cause a safety hazard to me. I don't care if people like to run some risks with propane setup and god speed to them and them rolling the dice but I like to view the launch of a "well maintained" rig into a geo synchronous orbit from quite a distance away please... I have seen 2 so far in 4 years of intensive travel and they are awesome to witness but only from a very comfortable distance to the point these launches become entertainment. Oh and in my van I don use propane so I can preach against propane or butane, deeming it inherently unsafe apart from it being expensive to install and a hassle to use (hassle as in getting propane with all the different bottles, fittings, fill laws and regulations. Not to mention extra insurance. Their is a silver lining with this sky rocketed rv sales is that in a few years when all the trendy folks get sick of the rv sell it and the prices drop through the floor. Parts and upgrade equipment will be cheap as dirt and available for those who need it...

I just came upon your page “Camping Etiquette”. We have camped on the Coast in Northern California. Camp sites are NOT peaceful. We were blessed to find and buy an acre of property on a river (yes it will flood one day) with an older RV on it. It had a new septic, well and electric. It’s boondocking with all the amenities. Peaceful. Deer. Bear. Fox. Bald Eagles. Migrating birds. We are just retiring now (because of COVID) and couldn’t be happier. HOWEVER, you ARE right. Even in the “GUNKS” Minniwaska State Park, NY, which I have been coming to for over 40 years has recently been taken over by the state. It’s carry in, carry out. The trash is making me sick. Besides wayward masks, there’s been Burger King Cups, Dunkin Donuts cups, and all sorts of discarded food packages. This is a sensitive environmental area protected for it’s wildlife both animal and plant. People... PLEASE. Don’t trash on our Mother Earth. She will be there for you... if you are there for her. We plan on going out west within the next 2 years. I pray we can enjoy what’s left. Thanks for sharing and so sorry for all you are encountering. I guess I’m just getting old. Don’t want to be cranky, just want to have an earth worth wandering on. Be well.

After early retirement in 2012, my wife and I volunteered for the US Army Corps of Engineers at a campground in SC for the winter months. We were co-hosts with another couple. We had a 34' TT. Our biggest problems were: Barking dogs, loud music, noise, noisy children, belligerence, and too many vehicles in one campsite, to name a few. This is part of the reason I sold my RV. Sad.

We have a extra generator and a bunch of extra stuff. We have been in some very nice places boondocking. They is a place called Sand Gulch in Colorado beautiful place. Then we went to penrose common another beautiful place to visit. We been boondocking for 7 years now and enjoy the places we have been. Truthfully we carry shovels,rakes and about 6 to 7 thousand dollars worth of tools to help the forest service out when we can. Now I'm disabled and in a wheelchair plus losing the use of my arms and hands it makes it harder for me to do anything. But at I still try to help keep things clean.

This has been an ongoing problem ever since I started Backpacking in the 80's. I ran an Outdoor Education Program, Summit Expedition out of Bass Lake, CA. We took campers in the Sierras for Backpacking Climbing Survival Experience. We alway taught pack in pack out, but we would alway pack out other Backpackers trash even 12 Thousand feet above Timber. It was always frustrating because we paid for permits for each group that went out into the forest, so we didn't want it to look bad on our outfit!! The only thing to do is pack out what you can of others waste on your campsite, or it will look like it was you. Maybe someday campers will grow up, and do their part!!🥰

I love this video you posted, and I too have seen some of what you mentioned. My wife and I live in the northeast and I grew up camping and touring the New England states. Camping in many of them. About 98% of our camping is staying in state parks. They don't have the amenities you would find in a private camp setting and we love the beauty in the state parks so much more. We dry camp and when we do, I always feel I have to clean up the site while staying in it. I too have found trash left as well as ropes left hanging from trees. We were camping last week and when backing into our site, I came across a metal tent peg left right in line with my tire. Thankfully it was found while I stopped to check position I was aiming for. A trend we have also noticed in this area is transient people coming into the state parks. On our last night in this last trip, we saw a car come in late in the afternoon, They were camped just past out site and the odd thing I noticed was that they got a roaring fire going right away. Almost and hour after arriving, the car left and yet there wasn't a tent set up and only a couple things on there table. We went to bed around 10 and the fire was still really high and still no car or tent. When we woke in the morning, they were gone. This type of things make me nervous because we have two young girls, and we don't really know who is coming in. It's a bit different when we see other families around enjoying the outdoors. Anyway, please be safe in your travels!

Covid caused cuts in forest service... yet a lot more campers. The beautiful thing I saw , seeing so many families camping after Summer. It reminded me of movies where families came together during the dust bowl. The hardships are not welcoming... but the silver lining of quality family time was beautiful... connecting in real time, playing, and disconnecting from social media. Related... Being Jewish, I became Orthodox. From Friday at sundown until Saturday night, (the Sabbath) it's like camping in the city... not driving, not touching money, not turning on or off anything electrical... instead, being with families and friends at the table and walking to synagogue 🕍.

Excellent video. Remember to leave it better than you found it. Also, always pick up all the litter where you are whether it is yours or not. If a gate is closed reclose it after you open it to drive or walk through. Always put the fire out completely never leave a warm fire pit behind. Please, make sure the fire pit is cold before you leave. Please, don't burn a fire under tree branches or near a tree or brush. Don't spot light for deer at night with any kind of gun in your vehicle or during hunting season. Drive slow on the dirt roads in the forest. Pack out your trash and dirty diapers. No dumping period. That trash and mattress picture looked like a dumping ground. No wonder it was closed for use. If you see wildlife or cattle enjoy the view and don't touch them or feed them. If you have a concern for the wildlife call the game and fish dept. If we all are courteous and thoughtful we can all enjoy these places for a lifetime. Stay safe and remember to be kind to your neighbor even in the outdoors.

You are absolutely right about these issues. I’m 57 and although I do live in a home, I have always owned an RV. The majority dry camping, what is now called boon docking. We have always and instilled in our children to not only keep our area clean but do an area sweep left behind by others, going so far as to drag magnets to remove nails left behind by all the pallet burners. We will lose access to our beautiful lands if respect and etiquette doesn’t prevail. Thank you for using your channel to help point this out and bring it to light.

👍 Using a magnet to find nails/screws is a great idea! We've seen much of this as well but never thought to pick them up with a magnet.

This is why my wife and I have set up the way we have. We have a no trash system. Everything in our vehicle is in reusable bags of some type. So when we hit the grocery, all items are transferred over and any trash is discarded in the city to not even be with us in the wild.

Sounds like a good system. Thanks for watching!

Will get worse when evictions and foreclosures open up..so sad! Glad i kept my paid off house. Also was disturbing to know that even though planet fitness are back open many wont let yoy shower. Hopefully things will get better. I intend to get back on the road but home in Sarasota is looking a lot better theses days. Stay safe and take care of yourselves,

I wish people could get caught red-handed dumping and get fined! Went to a state park this labor day weekend and spent 15 minutes cleaning out fire pit. Never have seen it so bad. Very upsetting 😞

You'll find the same issues at the beach. In my younger years I surfed every chance I got. In the 90s I noticed a huge disregard for the care of the beaches, same waste issues, diapers, junk, etc. Now I live up on Vancouver Island and in the mid-island area we have hobo camps (completely unlike the old ones) where they buy or steal products, and leave their packaging and waste in camps of perhaps 30 - 50 people when the place gets overloaded, they break camp, move a half mile or so and set up and destroy another area. In many areas the woods are now looking like a dumpsite, and since the "plague" they have allowed camping in public parks. Many are located by senior housing, and public schools, etc. It's simply getting worse everywhere.

If you witness it happening, take a picture of the offenders and their vehicles if possible then send it to the park and police authorities. Bad parents breed bad kids which turn into bad adults and the cycle continues. By the way, you are right they will shut it down and when its gone you don't get it back.

My heart goes out to you and the other responsible folks who are doing the right thing. Shame on those who are ruining these wonderful experiences for others.😒 I pray it gets better, & soon, or the few will destroy it for the many, like they do in so many other ways. SMH🙄 Sad state of affairs.

Good points to remember, unfortunately many folks only think about themselves and don’t consider the consequences with bad behavior or don’t care.

We live in Flagstaff and what we see in our forests makes us sick. People that know better come up and abuse public lands as though nothing maters. Side by sides racing, shooting guns at night, out of control fires, camping behind 'No Motorized Vehicles' signs, trash everywhere, and ya roped off sections as if it were private property. You're not whining you're stating the sad truth. The problem here is those that do these things aren't watching videos such as this. Sad times in this country. Glad you made this.

I’m in the Adirondacks and we have several free spots, unfortunately we are seeing the same thing. I will be trying to organize a “clean up” weekend sometime this fall and pick stuff up. Thankfully there are still some out there that take extra trash bags with them and pick up when they are there!! We are also dealing with thief’s that are looking for campers with no vehicles and breaking into them!! 😡

Thanks for sharing. I’m not an rv owner but an avid camper. Leave no trace, “ pack it in pack it out” are rules I live by. Sadly, the culture has changed and trashing areas is something I see in areas where I visit. The only places where trash is not a problem is in national and state parks where enforcement is vigilant.

We were park attendants at a Corp of Engineer campground for a while. We experienced the very same trends you have covered. People would literally poop in the showers in the public facilities. One camper changed his oil an left his old oil in the fire pit. People are just nasty of late. Never seen so many being so bold.
