My brother-in-law was a tattoo artist. He had been hassling me for a long time, to let him give me a tattoo (I didn't have any). When I turned 35, I decided to go for it. I wanted a phoenix on my upper back. I let him come up with the design. It is black and red. Two things... 1. We only did a patch test on the red because "no one is allergic to black ink". Except me. I'm the only person alive that's allergic to black ink. I rejected all of it. Now, my tattoo looks terrible. 2. A few years later, I see the same design on the side of a truck - I don't remember what the company was, but yeah... My now-husband asked the guy driving the truck where they got the design and he said that it was just some stock image that they found on the internet. Sigh.

Elliott Watt he’s mentioned it before the story of how it ended up but it was one he got either while on tour or after? The hotdog was the reference to the tour name. Every tat has a story and memory attached, even the weird and dumb ones lol. Those are the best ones imo!

A lot of folks with ADHD process pain differently, and I know several folks with the condition who have actively fallen asleep during the tattooing process. Brains are strange, tattoos are cool.

Im giggling because Im autistic, have adhd, and also have sensory processing disorder, so like strep throat for me is equal to “my throat is tickly” and also like, a few times when I was younger I broke a bone and then like was pretty meh, but then theres certain TINY things that make me LOOSE it and its like i want to die

I mean, it depends on the person, placement and size of the tattoo. I got a tattoo that covers most of my forearm, and since it's in a low sensitivity area, the first 2 hours didn't actually hurt. But yea, it started hurting like a bitch later on

Almost a decade ago now I had what i wholeheartedly believed to be a genius idea for a first tattoo and immediately mocked it up in a photo editing app. I wanted to get the classic three panel comic with the dudes in t-shirts: "No fear" "what if they made Simpsons porn illegal?" "One fear" but instead the middle panel would say "what if you make a regrettable body-art decision?" I'm 27 now, still don't have any tattoos, still can't get rid of this gem of an idea that reasserts itself everytime someone mentions tattoos.

The "Come and Take It" phrase originates from the Texas Revolution, basically they were defending a cannon in the Battle of Gonzales. They'd use that phrase and design to kind of taunt but also defend their cannon.

Id say as far as tattoos being painful, it depends. Some people have a high pain tolerance and it also depends on where you get the tattoo. Some spots on the body are a million times more sensitive than others and so those spots would hurt more

If you’re wondering where Come and Take it came from, it’s a Texas history thing. The Texans at the time were not given anything to protect themselves with against the natives and when they asked Mexico for help, all they were given was a small cannon. A while later, Mexico feared a rebellion, so they told the Texans to give back the tiny cannon. This was the last straw. The Texans put together an army and made flags saying “come and take it” with a picture of the cannon on top and started the first battle of the Texas revolution. Kids in Texas learn about the Texas revolution and Texas history in 4th grade, and I personally loved the story when I learned it in school and still remember it to this day.

My bf is a diabetic and it genuinely didn’t hurt too bad for him. His skin never even turned red most likely because his body is so used to needles. No inflammation or oozing. If you have disease that forces you to use needles daily, it’s totally understandable to have a significantly lower pain registration to needles.
