That’s the interesting thing about mythology in past times, that people would just get straight up confused and make a whole other God based off a God they heard somewhere else or portray an image of a God or something else based off a deity or something from that myth. Like God from Christianity is often portrayed as a strong old man with wavy white hair and a big white bushy beard, but that originally came from Zeus.

What he doesn't mention is the fact that Rindr was a giantess in most versions of the myth and a goddess in others. The person killed by "Vàli"(the child) was "Hodr" who was tricked by Loki into killing Balder with mistletoe. Mistletoe is the only thing Balder was vulnerable too. Literally nothing else could kill him, Because Balder was so beloved by all things everything on the earth, from the rocks to the trees made a promise to never harm him. Loki discovered that mistletoe was a young had formed after those promises were made, so he devised a plan to use it to kill Balder

@@tntkff9901 Viking mythology is so vague that I'm sure there is more than one version of the story. They weren't real big on writing things down. More so just telling the story again and again around a fire. The version I'm referring to is the one I learned about in school and the one in the books that I have read on Norse mythology. Just like the controversy over whether Loki is Thor's uncle or his brother. I have always read that Loki was Odin's Blood Brother through a close friendship built during travels and adventures together. There are a lot of people who think he is Odin's adopted son🤷

Hodr, Balder's blind younger brother, let Loki guide his hand to throw the arrow. Loki then dipped, so despite his help, it was Hodr who was punished for Balder's murder. It only came out later that Loki was the murderer when he wasn't invited to a drinking party, invoked his blood brother bond with Odin to be let in, got drunk, and when everyone was basically telling his to leave, he bragged about killing Balder and denying his return from death. (Balder's mother asked for Balder to be returned, and Helen said she'd release him if every creature in existance weeped for him, and Loki--disguised as an old woman--refused to weep.)

Question: If these Gods/Goddesses were held accountable for their actions and made to explain why they think they can do what they please without saying because I am a deity to humanity, what would they say. One such event like Athena cursing Meduca for being raped by Poseidon comes to mind because some source's say Athena could not handle the fact that a mortal was hotter then her which is why she was turned into gorgon, and it had nothing to do with a temple being desecrated like Athena would say was the reason. Gods/Goddesses being petty all the time seems too easy, especially since a lot of scholars say they are reflections of humanity yet a lot of their actions go beyond human behaviour.

Odin made an enemy out of what couldve been an ally, out of fear. If he was all knowing, he wouldve seen the arrogance and cowardice of this act. Odin was basically part of the "self-fulfilling prophecy" trope here. Loki's children were prophecied to have a role in Ragnarok, so Odin enslaved Sleipnir, threw Jormungandr into the ocean, convinced the Aesir to tie Fenrir down and confined Hel to, well, Hel. Loki himself was tied in a cave underneath a serpent dripping venom after he proudly admitted tricking Hodr into killing Baldr. I believe in some versions this was the work of Váli though. Being unfairly treated so, Loki's children turned against the Aesir in Ragnarok...

No, he just turned into various animals so he could get close enough to violate them, and/or in some cases continued to violate them even if his victim turned themself into an animal to try and make him stop. And also turned to a giant eagle to abduct a teenage boy to keep as a sex slave one time. And also turned into golden rain so he could impregnate a hot girl who's father kept her locked up specifically to prevent her from being impregnated. And turned himself into exact copies of multiple women's husbands to trick them into having sex with him. And caused multiple women to commit suicide, either as a result of trauma from his assault, because they figured it would hurt less than however Hera would kill them, or to prevent him from being able to assault them before ultimately being killed by Hera. To the best of my knowledge it's true that he never got a third party to tie someone up for him, but the guy was a serial sex offender, and I highly doubt he'd bat an eye at this

@@Amy_the_Lizard What women commited suicide as a result of trauma because of Zeus? There is no such story in greek mythology, unless you speak of later fanfiction. Hera killed most of them. Zeus usually used deception and tricks to get his way. Odin used madness and blunt force.

When did Frig go after Odin? She was a gentle and quiet goddess who took her of her husband's children. even those born out of their wedlock.

@@jeromelancashire3278 It's a modern fanfic, then. In the original nordic mythology, Frigg is gentle and never attacks Odin. She even took care of Odin's children with other women (e.g. Heimdall)

Wait, didn’t Loki kill Baldur? Then fled with his wife and two children? It’s said that Odin sent a group of Gods to locate Loki, where the found him and his family hiding in a mountainous area, they kill his one kid, and turned his next kid into a poisonous 🐍, tied up Loki so the poisonous venom would drip on him. It’s said his screams were heard throughout the realms. There are so many variations to some of the Scandinavian mythos, it becomes really difficult to follow…

Loki found out Baldr's weakness, mistletoe. He made a dart or spear out of it and gave it to Hodr. Hodr was sad because we was blind and missing out on the game of throwing things at the invincible Baldr. Loki directed him and had him throw the mistletoe. Baldr died, and Hodr took the blame. They didn't even come after Loki for his involvement. They hunted him down for the Lokasenna, where he drunkenly killed a guard and insulted every god in the hall with harsh truths, calling out their hypocrisy. They cared more about pride and honor than Baldr's life (to be fair, he was promised to return after Ragnarok).

Early mistranslation or confusion has led to a single mention of a Váli who is a son of Loki: "Þá váru teknir synir Loka, Váli ok Nari eða Narfi" from the Prose Edda,[3] translated as "Then were taken Loki's sons, Váli and Nari".[4] We find the original of the only reference to Váli as the son of Loki, while even the same text refers to Baldr's death being avenged by his brother (in Völuspá 33[5]) as well as Váli being the Son of Odin in Völuspá 51, which is repeated in Baldr's draumar.[6][7] In the late period Gesta Danorum we also see that Odin is said to have a son with Rinda that will avenge his other son, Baldr's, death - though in this case the name of this new son is Boe rather than Váli. In all these tales Odin goes out immediately - either through seduction, deception, or force - to sire this son.[a] Similarly where each of these documents ascribe Váli the role of Loki's son we see only in the postscript or translation notes that this transformation was a punishment when in fact the gift of wolf's strength and rage is well attested as being granted by Odin to warriors known as ulfhednar, which would make his son Váli a Berserker and a possible origin for the ulfhednar legend. Finally we see a different description in Hauksbók. In this version of Völuspá, stanza 34 begins: "Þá kná Vála | vígbǫnd snúa", usually amended to the nominative Váli in order to provide a subject for the verb; Ursula Dronke translates it as "Then did Váli | slaughter bonds twist"[8] which presumably refers to Váli, son of Óðinn, who was begotten to avenge Baldr's death, and thus it is likely that he bound Loki, while it is highly improbable that it refers to a Váli, son of Loki, who is attested nowhere but one line of the Prose Edda.[b]
